Oh man, Manus Peak was so much cooler back then. All foggy and the lightning crackling overhead and striking the ground ever so often. Only part that was ****** was that objectives were WAY too easy to defend once you got entrenched.
I think the only parts that survived since then are the 'bowl' objective, and parts of the tower near the middle objective.
Man....I miss closed beta. It was such a small community but people were so optimistic and constructive. Now all I see are bitter vets... |

i very much miss the days of closed beta..... I miss rolling around in my high damage glass cannon sagaris that kills bolas' in 2 shots and my Surya that I got almost 15K armour on at one point.
the supremacy of Tankers was a real thing in closed beta but wasn't that entrenched into the game that made people want them gone. Tank fights everywhere and a tanker vs tanker win was a massive status boost in our ranks.
I loved it then...... so much power, so much control over your own abilities, so much fun.

Yeah, Alpha vs Charlie combat was a hell of a lot more entertaining back then. Charlie was where Alpha is now and Alpha was in this interesting location that sort of had a ramp and a little goat-path that ran down the center... Made for some absolutely -BRUTAL- gridlocks and there was a lot of strategy involved in taking either location.
I remember getting caught in that goat path so often and players had to literally force through it just to make any progress. Then they changed the Nova Knives to be hand-held (since it used to be like the CoD melee) and I switched to that. That was when they were first introduced so no-one really knew what they were capable of, just that they looked freaggin bad [redacted] since there were two of them and the way they were held. I remember breaking so many front-lines in those A v C gridlocks just by rushing in there with knives and being primary target while the rest of my team took advantage of the distraction and broke through.
Was sooooo awesome. Course, then again, that was only possible because there wasn't any aim assist.

Oh, the oh-so-wonderful sniper mountain of Manus Peak, where everyone spent their days calling LAVs on unsuspecting snipers.
Those were the days.

I remember fighting 90% of my tank battles on the closed beta manus peak.
I would set up a position right behind the objective to the north and destroy anyone that came up to the tower and then I would relocate to the tower and engage enemy tanks all around that location, not even Mr. Zitro could take me down with the strategy and tactics I used there.
I had ALOT of tank showdowns will all of the big time tankers back then, I won 60% of my engagements and made my name known as the Rail Tanker.

You know, what kills me, is that all they needed to do was move the redline a bit and that map would have been awesome - didn't have to turn the entire map into Manus Plateau ._.

You know you've failed as a Developer when players would rather play during Closed Beta than they would 2 years after the game has been "released".
If I don't, who will?

Points to self. Ya I am one. Second I loved and hated that map, it depended on which side you spawned. If you got the mountain of doom you was set.

Actually no. At that point in time, the draw distance for players was infinite. You could see players at any point on the map -from- any point on the map, it's what made snipers scary back then, especially since no other weapon could touch them past like 90 meters with the damage cut-off point.

looking back with a few tweaks closed beta manus peak would have made for a pretty epic domination map having the point on top of it tanks trundling up each side the peak dosging prox mines that don't work and WB's being dropped onto the point every time it came up. would have made fo rsome fun matches
