A scout's purpose is not invisibility, it is intel gathering. Invisibility is merely a tool some scouts use to help them gather intel, as in using stealth to get in among the enemy ranks without them knowing and then relaying information about the enemy to the team. However, invisibility isn't the only tool for a scout to fill its purpose.

This is my scout. I still go out ahead of my squad to gather information about the enemy, but I do so with high scanning and protection instead of invisibility. Yet despite doing exactly what a scout is supposed to do, because I go about it in a different manner I am not a real scout?
(at least I'm not abusing cloaks to fire while still invisible or tossing RE's around like grenades as my main method of attacking)

Exactly. Especially with assaults getting buffed in Charlie, if you are a scout stacking armor or shields you will fall very short of an assault. And then if you add some ewar mods you won't even be comparable to an assault. So all this talk about nerfing scouts who want more than 300 EHP to protect their investments (we all pay ISK for these things) is ridiculous.
