Hello kiddies, DADDY'S HOME!
After almost 6 months of being unable to play, I got to run my custom dropsuits rigged to feet me a bite of delicious chunky munky ice cream every time I kill one of you.
On a more serious note I am a dedicated heavy player. Every dropsuit skillpoint I have is dumped into sentinel or commando suits. This will not change with the upcoming nerf. My flavor is, was, and will always be fatsuits.
To illustrate my commentary as of last night I have the following:
Gallente Sentinel 5 Caldari Sentinel 5 Amarr Sentinel 5 Minmatar Sentinel 1 (and rising!) Gallente Commando 3 All other Commando 1
This will remain and continue going up after the upcoming heavy CPU/PG nerf. I'm for the nerf. Suck it FOTM chasers.
As a side note anyone who enters a match and denies me my tribute of four 55-gallon trashbags of cheetos will be killed repeatedly.
When I first dropped in I was under the delusion that the FOTM thing was overstated snd exaggerated. Imagine my shock when I found 1/3rd to 1/2 running fat in one flavor or another. After a few games of play the pattern that has flagrantly caused the anger about FOTM suits rapidly emerged.
First it begins with a sigh. "Another goddamned fatsuit in my sights." So you smartly stay back and patiently crack him open. Then the next. Then the next. Then the enemy is crawling up your ass because you had to chew through a wall of stupid and ehp, and retreat to cover to defend.
Then all of a sudden some complete ass (this would be me) slams into you like a bowling ball and kills three of you and continues waddling along murdering in CQC. And there is no way to differentiate me from the FOTM amateur hour, making the spam that much worse.
From my perspective I must applaud the assaults who used range and remote explosives to stop my rampages. To you I give kudos for not being idiotic. To everyone who ran right at me or tried to duel me in CQC you are dumb.
To me the FOTM chasers were obvious because I would flash and killl three of them in my templar fatsuit with militia mods. Properly skilled heavies were equally obvious as one of us walked away with maybe 50 hp left and promptly got picked off by the vultures nearby.
Analysis: FOTM is less effective than it is annoying. I sympathize with medium suit users because bluntly heavy is a support suit. It should not be the mainline infantry attack rig any more than a logi or a scout. I believe making fitting harder will properly force EZ-Mode players out of the role and return the sentinel suit properly to high-risk, high-reward as it should be.
I hope that the upcoming assault buffs similarly return mainline infantry to prominence. |

Metapod Use Harden wrote:Man, i like your post for the most part but you gotta explain what the risk part is in the High risk/High reward because as of now not really much risk with all that hp and dps.
Traditionally in the past playing heavy/sentinel it has been very punshing as a role to grow into for newer players because it was so very dependent upon core skills AND fitting skills to kit out fat very well. It takes about 15-20 milion SP pumped into the role to become a walking wall of hell the way I play. This fatty flavor results in comparably poor fat fits because FOTM chasers front load the suits for DPS but fit poorly for armor, mitigation and recovery modules and it is obvious. I gunned down a few in my templar assault suit with militia mods. It wasnt particularly difficult as I have prof 3 with scrams even if zero assault suit skills.
In short, the sentinels you are facing are all gank, negligible tank (for a heavy).
The high risk of playing heavy is your first 12-15 million SP. You are going to get savaged. It's that simple. The high reward stage comes at around 20 mil SP when you are riding high on the suit as a mini gunnlogi/madrugar and you realize you can functionally call yourself a threat to the enemy.
Heavies have always been the bastion of the patient killer. We do not welcome FOTM chasers into our ranks. |

Now i beat every heavy in a 1v1 with my MLT minnie heavy with a shield and kin cat.
You all rely so much on your ridiculous HP and DPS you forget to strafe.
Also, I'm trying hard to understand how heavy is an SP intensive role. Here is my understanding--HMG to 5, 3 in cores, armor or shield to 5, grenade to 1, select heavy to 5, damage mods to 5.
Estimated cost- 7 mil sp -¦ 1 mil Congratulations. Bring your min fat up on me and I will torch you. You can strafe. I do that too. I also enjoy 15% damage reduction to your level 1 HMG. 7m sp heavies are dogmeat. |

And it won't change the fact that heavies will still have the most hp with resists and the most ridiculously OP weapon ever. Fatties will still be easy mode. I use basic suit/hmg most of the time I pull out a heavy and it is still more powerful than my proto cal and gal scout.
Spoken like someone who enjoys a spare character and passive SP then jumps into squads and has support in pubs whenever they feel it convenient.
Heavies are deadly supporting squads. When they fly solo like everyone and their idiot brother they are dead.
Im usually solo, so I tend to stay close to clusters of friendlies because the only way to rack up kills and not get pinned or pasted is to turn a corner and find enemies in optimal.
And at 40 meters or more all of the assault rifles consistently kill me before I kill them because assaults can back up faster than I can waddle forward. The ones who run at me die.
The hmg is only useful up close and is woefully unsuited to operating on any open field maps except circumstantially |

The point is, i can eat SG scouts, all non-RR assaults and most other heavies with a basic HMG on a MLT min heavy. This isn't a pissing match, I'm trying to make a point.
This illustrates why I welcome the cpu/pg nerf. That means me having burned the SP to max out my fitting/core skills as well will matter, rather than having been SP wasted. I really cranked out the cpu/pg skills and consider them critical to a solid heavy fit. The fact that this is not currently the case is irritating. And if you already have maxed or close to maxed the core fitting skills you are going to shred ass in any dropsuit fitting you choose to skill into because they all have crossover utility. |

If your squad is equipped to see them, however, it's a different story entirely. those cloaky shotgun riders need a heavy nerf... make it so they cannot use cloak+shotgun or remove the 15% per level on pg/cpu use on cloak on scouts lower requirments so any one can use it.. scouts got their speed and ability to now show on tacnet anyway
oh GOD no. Three words: Cloaked Heavy Commando. No.
And Shotgun scouts (Use prototype you lazy tools) are still the best fat splatter.
Fear me for I am heavy, I carry the slowest guns, and I drive the much-feared "Fatmobile." |

not likely.
But hey look on the bright side. Caldari and minmatar heavies are pretty **** for close in work. Sure they can front-load more damage. No they just don't have the durability to soak incoming fire in a brawl. |
