Facwar standing names? Galm and I were hammering out some stuff we thought sounded really good. The only one we didn't do was Amarr.
Minmatar
1)Initiate 2)Thrall 3)Drengr 4)Hersir 5)Sturaesman 6)Thegn 7)Jarl 8)Alfr (could be swapped for more appropriate word). 9)Draugr 10)Einherjiar
Caldari
1) Shaatei (Lowest Ranking Member) 2) Ashigaru (Foot soldiers of Feudal Japan) 3) Kirjuun (caldari word equivalent of 'comrade') 4) Shogun (Ancient Warlords) 5) Daimyo (Landowning Noble) 6) R+ìj+½ (Highest Ranking in their group) 7) Kugy+ì (Most powerful men in a court) 8) Baku (A dream eating beast. Also means 'strike' in Napanii.) 9) Raij+½ (A thunder beast that falls to Earth in a ball of Lighting) 10) Rasetsu
Gallente
1) Trophimoi 2) Ekdromoi 3) Homoioi (covered in spartiate link it means 'peers') 4) Sarissophoroi 5) Hoplite 6) Spartiate 7) Somatophylakes I was tempted to replace this with Hetairoi, but that's a bit of a later period thing. 8) Erinyes 9) Gigas 10) Hekatonkheir
I was trying to operate with a transcendant theme, where you start as something fairly ordinary, up until you hit level eight, which is where you start to transcend into a creature of myth. We went with norse themse for minmatar, Japanese themes for caldari, and greek/Spartan themes for gallente. It's a bit harder to do Amarr ones (as they really draw from a lot of the same stuff as gallente) and sound as good as we got the Min and Gal ones sounding. In retrospect the caldari is a little weak, but I think we can improve it.

They didn't guard hell, they were chosen for their primordial nature and being creatures of 'incredible strength and ferocity' that took part in an uprising that was (arguably) against tyranny and for causes that were good and just.
If that doesn't tickle your butthole as a gallente, you're sitting on the wrong LP bidet.

Part of it is the naming schema True. A lot of what we've got in eve is overtly religious themes that don't actually pertain to any one culture, or they pertain to stuff like teutonic knight orders. So in short you've got ships like malediction, crucifier, damnation, paladin, sacriledge, retribution, oracle, zealot etc. It's hard to pin down an actual theme.
I know pie uses stuff like "Praetorian" and other roman-y names, but that's incredibly incredibly similar to the gallente thema we've got going. If I can pin an actual theme I can try to work on stuff, but unless I'm capable of identifying whether their 'god' is Abrahamic or something else I have no idea.
Let's just assume a judiac theme though for a second
Rank 8) Erelim (Brave ones) or Malakim (messengers - if this is chosen, bump erelim up to rank 8, and hashmalim to rank 10) Rank 9) Hashmalim (Glowing ones) Rank 10) Seraphim (Burning ones)
And then I could try and construct a more unifying theme around judiac military stuff?
Or we could run with lower tier stuff being things like "deacon" "cardinal" etc.

Seraphim is very very close to sephrim. Incidentally in some variations of the language you also have sephiroths there.

Nocturnal Soul wrote:What I don't get is why "shogun" isn't #10 like from what I know about Japanese history they were the generals of the Empire, the emperors right hand, his devoted retribution, and probably more powerful than the other.
Because the theme that galm and I were operating was that the ranks from 1-7 were for 'mortals' (though as you increased in rank your title demonstrated a lot more power and control) and then ranks from 8-10 were expressly for 'supernatural' creatures. I tried to cleave pretty close to racial lines for all the titles (and so did galm, seemingly) with the minmatar being primarily norse, and the gallente being greek inspired (and also drawing heavily from themes of chaos).
For the caldari I like Rasetsu as they were 'unrighteous' 'man-eating' spirits of violence and death (synonymous with rakshasha and sometimes used interchangeably with asura), filled with bloodlust and usually conceptualizations of stuff like "Sensual passions, Discontent, Hunger and Thirst, Craving, Sloth and Drowsiness, Terror, Uncertainty, Hypocrisy and Stubbornness, Gains, Offerings, Fame and Status wrongly gained, and whoever would praise self and disparage others".
The Caldari are an incredibly predatory race, so to them the 'ultimate' spiritual being of violence might be a Rasetsu of predatory instinct. I wanted to make a contrast where instead of embracing and treating their beings of myth with reverence like the other races, the caldari are instead (rightfully) terrified of and shun these warrior-legends but they also respect them.
I think some of the caldari titles are a little bit weak compared to the ones done up for minmatar / gallente, but otherwise they're 'kay.

Caldari have a different social structure, the military wasn't as powerful as it was in historical japan, so the court officials would have certainly had more power and influence than the shogun(ates). Thus people who owned and controlled land >>>> military generals.
