Leave the alls-fair-in-love-and-war for Faction and Planetary Conquest.
I wish I could like this more than once.
This is why I like the idea of meta-level gear capped matches, where only a certain level of gear can be used. I'd rather lose 100 competitive, hard fought games over winning a hundred protostomps any. day. of. the. week. And if you wanted to bring in standard gear into to a proto-gear match, then you could do so -- then all the protostomping defenders on these forums that continually state, "gear doesn't matter, me and my squad win with militia all the time" can stop paying lip service to this idea every time it comes up and prove it (and btw, I totally recognize that there are mercs here than can consistently do it, but I think there are are a hell of a lot fewer of you than the forums would suggest).
Can I be honest? A lot of you will think I'm daft when I say this, but hear me out: since Dust is never going to be anything more than a decent lobby shooter now, I think it's time we entertain the idea that we simply remove the concept of 'ISK' from it, and make it so that if you are skilled into it, you can use it, without restrictions, like MAG used to work. I'm space rich, but what is that actually worth, if I can't find balanced, competitive games easily? If we get rid of ISK, we remove a lot of the reasons why protostomping exists, which is good for Dust in the long run.
Let Legion have ISK and Planetary Conquest -- personally, I don't give a rat's ass about any of that. Understand, I'm not criticizing those of you Eve players that do care and enjoy that aspect of Dust, but you all have Legion to look forward to now. Let Dust be the best lobby shooter it can be, and forget about all the other stuff. I didn't start playing this game because I was into Eve, the lore, or the meta game, and all that. I started playing cause I was looking for a new game where I could shoot people in the face for a few hours. The fact that I could do it in space with scifi weapons, and that it was tied into the Eve universe (which I still think is cool) was just icing, interesting bonuses to the game, but that's not why I keep playing. I continue because playing that one competitive match that you get all too rarely makes all the boring protostomp ones (whether you won or lost) worth it.
