Where is the shield repair tool at? Why should armor tanked heavies have more survivability than a shield tanked? I know shield repair technology exists in New Eden? |

How would you feel about a Shield Repair Tool that didn't necessarily rep the shields back, but rather forcefully kept them repping at their natural recharge rate, even while taking fire? |

I had the idea for a rep-tool that gave a supercharged rep bonus of a limited time. Basically you charge it and target someone and when you fired it game them like 2x their base rate plus whatever their fitted rate was (so if you have a base 20 and fitted 40, you'd get 80) for a short time (10sec-ish).
It would be useful for hit and run attacks or breaching areas with Cal heavies. It would be balanced by reping in ticks (so a Cal scout could possibly be killed through it), a very short range (10-15m max), and having a fairly significant charge time (3-5sec-ish). It also would not stack (if two people use it on one, the latter one takes over on a fresh cycle). |

Then perhaps a lesser base amount per second but also forces the natural recharge? I could allow for constant repping, or you could tag someone with it for a second to force their shields to start recharging and then move on. Effectively allow you to bypass the target's recharge delay. |

My personal preference is that armor and shield continue to have distinctly different styles of operation. If a shield repair tool was to exist, I think it'd need to be distinctly different than how the armor repair tool works. Pokey's idea has some merit in terms of allowing shield reppers to be different.
The general concept of armor versus shields, is that you get more armor, but shields return quickly. Which means yes, in a logi/heavy combo, armor is the preferred type. A shield heavy should be better at solo defense though than an armor heavy. If that's not the case, shields might need a buff. Changing it to having a rep tool option would be a big game design change query. I'll ask about it.
As far as "where is" your Shield Repair Tool... I'm not sure new modules are likely to arrive right now. It might not be possible to do such a tool without a client patch. (It might be, hacking together various things CCP already has, not sure. I haven't gotten a chance to chat with Rattati yet. I'm new, you know.)
Also, if you want to make sure I see a thread, make sure to tell me about it by email (below) or Skype (ocdtrekkie) or an in-game mail or some such that I can be sure it doesn't get buried in the forums. ;)

The coding for shield transfers exist since closed beta. All you need to do is create a reptool that gives shields instead of armor. And the rest is a numbers game.

Well that is assuming the code didnt get wiped out with the Logi LAVs. But yes assuming that behavior is still present in the client, it could be Frankensteined in there. |
