I started an EVE account a couple of weeks ago and was unable to overcome the sheer boredom. I tried several tutorials, but Jesus, I couldn't find a single interesting thing about this game. I ended up searching on why the hell people play EVE and I found this excellent article:

I am a few days into my new account on EVE as well.
I am enjoying it but my account was created for specific purposes so I have had a goal this whole time which made it A LOT better imo. I can not imagine sitting through the tutorial without help or people to talk to. Wait yes I can cause I tried it almost a year ago and quickly deleted the game. This time around I have my 60 day code from the collectors edition so that gave me a bit more incentive as well.
Anyway good luck and drop me a line in dust if you want to go hang out in FW space. |

Join the Help channel ASAP. Ask all you questions there, plenty of vets in that channel volunteer to help out noobs.
Also, EVE is very, VERY much an MMO. Many people try EVE but only play solo and they get bored very quickly because they have no idea what to do. To enjoy EVE and to learn how to play you MUST join a Corp. Look into EVE University, Red vs. Blue or Brave Newbies.
Lastly, focus on your core skills as they are crucial in EVE. And as a new player you have no business flying anything but a frigate the first few months.

I'd tutor you personally but you're going to make an Amarr character and I'm kill on sight in Amarr space.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Immortal John Ripper wrote: Oh cool have fun putting skills to train into the que for a whole year before you become remotely usefull. Dont bother with solo PVP you will just die every single time cause you dont have nowhere enough skills to be competetive. Every 1 you will encounter has more tank, more gank and flys faster then you. You basically are starting a ship spinning simulator. And yes you will figure out what that means soon enough.

I've got 8 years under my belt, feel free to message me in Dust if you have any questions.
First and foremost, join a corporation. Brave Newbies and Dust University are good starts. There's also Red vs Blue, they're two corps that are locked in permanent battle in high/low sec. It's a great place to learn without have to get sucked into the large null sec corps and you wont have far to go for a fight.
Wormhole space is a good place for isk, but you'll really want a wormhole corp if you get involved in that
Mining takes a special kind of crazy because it can be really, REALLY REALLY boring unless you're in a group and drinking.
EVE is what you make it. Figure out a goal and work towards it, otherwise you'll drift through space and hate every minute of it. |

Honestly, anything a new player would be doing is done better with a bot. CCP never banned any of the highsec mission/mining/market bots when I was playing, so you might as well. They claimed they did ban some, but none of the ones Suddenly Ninjas watched ever got hit.
Anyhow, even if you're PVP-oriented, the game is 90-95% you being bored waiting for something to happen, and depending on how stacked your fleet is/how stupid the enemy is, the other 5-10% is just curbstomping scrubs and taking the god awful modules from their ****-fit ships which will likely be only worth enough to cover the ammunition you used crushing their tiny heads. Or farming for isk in the very boring, very short list of profitable PVE content to replace ship(s) you lost due to making a terrible mistake or for the lulz. In any case, Eve is only bearable with a corp with a voice server with people you like, otherwise you'll become catatonic.
If you can get ahead by being the biggest jerk in the universe, by scamming or lying or betraying, then do it. It's all fair game as long as it isn't a straight up programming exploit.
Oh, and fly Minmatar ships. Projectiles are stupid good in Eve thanks to having the full range of damage types to swap on the fly for maximum gank, and most of the good ones can be fit both armor or shield tank depending on your preference.
But above all, rule 1: Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. |

Right now, I wouldn't join Brave Newbies over EVE university. You will learn more being in EVE uni for a while like how to fit a ship, fleet operations, etc. If you joined Brave you would just get farmed by some of the other null entities like CFC and N3 groups because we are bored. |
