Luxanne decided to ignore the Templars comment about her current physical state. As far as she was concerned it wasnGÇÖt bad enough to warrant such a severe term. She was pretty sure that she could still perform the basic tasks of walking, and mild physical activity. There was no need for concern.
True Adamance wrote:"Of course Doctor, as you will." He responded to the Luxanne, his tone was kind and understanding but carried a weight of concern. "Forgive my interruption."
Dr. Thaira softly mumbled a response; she was so engrossed in her work to offer any form of actual verbal response.
As she continued working she began to play with her hair. It was an old habit she was hardly aware of. Whenever she was tired she would unconsciously begin to twirl her hair between her fingers. The data in front of her quickly changed as she switched to another project. She had been working on an AV weapon of Amarr design. She was having problems with the system working in less than ideal conditions. The belief was that if they could get it to function correctly during the sandstorms then it could hold up in most extreme situations. They were nearly finished, she only needed to make a few minor adjustments to the focusing crystal and run through final testing. At least she would see one of the projects completed quickly.
Captain Bass wrote:Alaxander glared up at the drone. They approached the door to the main lab. Alaxander opened the door and walked in. He saw the Templar standing behind the doctor. "
Just after Alexander walked into the room Luxanne pushed herself out of her chair. It required a considerably larger amount of energy than she anticipated. Perhaps the TemplarGÇÖs observation of her physical wellbeing was not so far off. She had to brace her arm against the table to steady herself, and recollect her thoughts. She was starting to feel slightly light headed and dizzy.
Captain Bass wrote:"Ave associates"
The Doctor did not bother with responding, although it was rude she did not believe a response was necessary. She also had not done a very good job of keeping her dislike for him a secret. There first interaction had gone rather poorly. It probably didnGÇÖt help that she was quite suspicious of the drone that accompanied him. Although she was told that it would not be recording any of their findings she still did not trust them. Alexander after all was a mercenary. From their limited interaction Luxanne believed that he performed his job out of greed rather than duty.
GÇ£I do not require two of you to protect me in my own lab.GÇ¥
She was no longer dizzy, standing without the assistance of the table.
GÇ£But if you are both here you can at least be useful.GÇ¥
Luxanne made her way towards the back of the lab and towards a large prototype laser cannon. It was intended to be an AV weapon capable of being carried by infantry. It was intended to be fired from the shoulder. The testing was nearly complete but they still needed the input of those that were actually going to be using it in combat. At the moment she suspected that it might be to heavy for those wearing medium suits to properly wield.
GÇ£Templar Ouryon,GÇ¥ She called him over.
She unhooked the cables that were transferring data from the weapon to her terminals.
GÇ£If you wouldnGÇÖt mind, let me know what you think.GÇ¥ |

True Adamance wrote:"Dr Thaira...." He replied, a slight tinge of frustration colouring his voice, though it was more directed at himself than anyone else. " I do not believe my current Dropsuit will be able to wield this weapon effectively enough to provide accurate combat data....."
Luxanne let out a slight sigh, she was afraid she would get that response. Her shoulders sagged slightly. As if a weight had been added to her shoulders.
GÇ£I was afraid you might say that.GÇ¥
In the back of her mind she had known that it was a possibility. The whole point of the project was to create a man portable AV weapon. At the moment she was trying to figure out how to salvage the project. At the very least it had proven to be a capable weapon during testing. She needed to at least finish testing the weapon.
GÇ£Maybe the heavy suits?GÇ¥ the Doctor mumbled to herself.
She ran over the numbers in her head. The weapon was probably too heavy to be wielded reliably even by a heavy suit. The suit might be able to fire the weapon but the would be rendered almost completely immobile.
GÇ£Still to heavy.GÇ¥ The fingers on her right hand started flexing and moving like she was typing and counting on her fingers at the same time. She was still talking to herself. Most of the time there wasnGÇÖt anyone else around to hear her.
True Adamance wrote:"Could not this weapon be mounted as a fixed position? Or perhaps to a vehicle of some kind....? We have a number of possible variants down in the lower garage that could be have the two systems integrated...."
At KadorGÇÖs suggestion the mumbling stopped.
GÇ£It is not optimal but it would at least allow us to gather combat data.GÇ¥
She was mentally kicking herself for not thinking about mounting it on a vehicle earlier. She had been so focused on it as a man portable weapon that she had overlooked the possibility of using it on a vehicle.
GÇ£Mr. Bass, help me get this weapon prepared for transport. There should be a cart somewhere around here.GÇ¥ She motioned in no specific direction.
Luxanne really had no idea where the cart was only that it was somewhere in the lab.
GÇ£Templar Ouryon do you have any specific vehicles in mind. Your knowledge of them is considerably greater than mine.GÇ¥

The Doctor reflexively cringed at the harsh treatment the weapon received during transfer. The weapon was meant to be used in combat, and was therefore durable enough to withstand the rigors that were associated with combat. Even though she knew that it still pained her to see one of her creations treated in such a manner.
Luxanne ignored the other TemplarsGÇÖ inquiries. She had neither the time nor the patience to explain anything. There was too much work to be done. As they transported the weapon out of the lab she stopped and spoke when Bass told B2 to assist them.
GÇ£Do not let that drone connect directly to the device.GÇ¥
She did not trust a drone that belonged to another. She was afraid that it would download the weapons data. No matter what anyone else told her she feared her creations being used against her own people.
Just as the TemplarGÇÖs left a warning siren went off inside the facility. It was the warning for an incoming storm. Dr. ThairaGÇÖs hands quickly went to her neocom.
GÇ£Make sure all projects currently in testing outside are securely stored in the labs.GÇ¥
Most likely all of the projects were already stored away safely, there was no need to bother them with such an obvious task.
GÇ£All projects were brought inside ten minutes ago Doctor.GÇ¥
Luxanne didnGÇÖt even bother replying. It was what was expected. Meeting expectations required no word of thanks on her part.
She grabbed a 2x2in cube off of a shelf and plugged it directly into her neocom. She began tinkering with the device, once again engrossed in her work.

Lab
The Doctor was so engrossed in her work that she hardly registered all of the warning bombarding her.
Captain Bass wrote:"Doctor, we have to leave."
GÇ£I am currently in the middle of working Mr. Bass, and I have no intention of going anywhere at the moment. If you are so worried about my safety then I suggest you do your job better.GÇ¥
She never even bothered to look up from the small cube she was working on. It wasnGÇÖt until she started receiving communications on her neocom from the other researchers. They were all panicked and difficult to understand.
GÇ£You all get flustered by the smallest thingsGÇ¥ she muttered to herself.GÇ¥
It wasnGÇÖt until she felt the entire building shake that she lifted her head.
GÇ£You could have said something to meGÇ¥ she glared at Captain Bass.
Luxanne started moving around the lab grabbing documents and smaller prototypes. If they were going to be moving somewhere else she would need to bring her work with her.
(You can control her to get her moving)
Bridge
GÇ£Send in the second waveGÇ¥
GÇ£Sir, we havenGÇÖt reestablished communications with the first wave or the mercGÇÖs.GÇ¥
GÇ£Launch the second wave.GÇ¥
GÇ£Yes Sir.GÇ¥
Another group of pods were fired towards the surface. The second wave was intended to breach the east wing of the laboratory, grouping with the mercenaries and intercepting the target. Unfortunately for command they had no idea how the operation was going. There was still 7 minutes before they would be able to reestablish communications with the ground forces.

The once spotless research facility was now covered in a fine layer of sand and debris. To the Doctor it looked completely foreign. Its current state betrayed her memory, it was as if she had been transported to one of the bombed out buildings inside the colony. She was in a daze, as if she was walking through a dream. Her limbs felt heavy and were slow to respond.
Her legs continued propelling her forward at a slow pace as she shuffled her feet. The bodies of PalladinGÇÖs, researchers, and Matari attackers were scattered throughout the halls. When Luxanne saw them all that she felt a slight twinge of guilt. She had never bothered to interact socially with many of them. They had died and she never even bothered to learn their names. Their crimson blood stained the white walls and floor. It reminded her of an artist throwing paint against a wall.
It was the staccato sounds of gunfire that finally shook her from her daze. Her immediate reaction was fear, GÇ£IGÇÖm going to die on this dust ball of a planet.GÇ¥ It was immediately followed by confusion, GÇ£Why are we heading towards the sounds of gunfire?GÇ¥ Her confusion was quickly followed by anger, GÇ£Why in gods name is he leading me towards them?GÇ¥ She was about to give voice to her thoughts when the Matari soldiers opened fire. She only saw them raise their guns before her field of vision was filled by someoneGÇÖs back.
Her body was completely frozen; she couldnGÇÖt move a single muscle. In the back of her mind she thought it was strange, her fight-or-flight response should have kicked in. maybe she had been hit by bullet and no longer had control over her body? These thoughts were quickly obliterated as Bass returned fire. As the rail rifle fired the noise nearly deafened her. The proximity of the gun and her unprepared body caused her ears to ring. Although he was no longer firing the ringing still persisted. She sort of recognized someone pulling at her arm, urging her forward. Disoriented and confused she stumbled into the room behind Bass.
Captain Bass wrote:B2 hovered over to Alexander. "Master! Your hurt!"
"No **** B2"
Alexander looked to the doctor and said
"Am I doing my job better Doc?"
He coughed a little blood
The ringing had subsided and she had regained her senses as he spoke. For a moment she didnGÇÖt know what to say or do. GÇ£Should I help him? Is he going to die? What do I do?GÇ¥
GÇ£Given our current situation I would have to say you are actually doing worse.GÇ¥ She spoke in a deadpan matter-of-fact way. It helped her regain her composure.
She was sweating a little and shaking slightly. She shoved her hands into her pockets to hide them. She needed to decide what to do. There was a decent chance that the attacking party knew their location. It was also obvious that the man currently sitting in a small puddle of his own blood was not exactly in fighting shape. Outside the door she could hear more soldiers approaching. The door they were hiding behind protected them from small arms fire and grenades, but it would probably not hold up against a larger charge. Or they could probably just hack their way through the control panel.
In a futile attempt she searched for a med kit in the room. The voice in her head kept telling her that it was pointless. The wound was too severe to simply be wrapped up. His own stomach acid was probably eating away his internal organs as she continued to search. It would probably take at least 10 minutes for him to completely bleed out. She needed to make a decision quickly.
Her shoulders slumped and she hung her head as she approached Bass.
GÇ£We probably only have a handful of minutes before they get through that door.GÇ¥ She continued to look down at her feet.
GÇ£You really arenGÇÖt in any condition to protect yourself let alone me.GÇ¥
She pulled a small object from one of her coat pockets. It small enough that she was easily able to grasp it in a single hand. Trembling slightly she raised her hand. She was holding a smaller version of the Ammarian scrambler pistol. Although it was smaller in size it lacked none of the extravagant engravings and etchings of its larger brother. The gun was as much a piece of art as it was a weapon. She leveled the weapon at his head.
Outside she could hear a number of bodies outside the door. They were about to breech.
GÇ£You had better save me.GÇ¥
Luxanne allowed her logic to take over, trying to reign in her emotions. The trembling stopped momentarily. At their distance she couldnGÇÖt miss. The room echoed with the sound of a weapon discharging. She fired two shots into his head. The pistol
GÇ£Drone I need you to follow me when they take me, and relay that information to the others.GÇ¥
Crownrule wrote:"Doctor? Captain? Are you alright?"Crownrule asks as he bleeds on the floor.
GÇ£My apologies TemplarGÇÖs but it would seem that I am in need of your assistance.GÇ¥ She spoke over the internal communication system.
Just as she finished speaking the door opened. Several soldiers streamed into the room weapons at the ready. Luxanne held her hands in the air in a sign of surrender.
GÇ£This is Squad 6, we have secured the package and are proceeding to extraction. Expecting heavy resistance.GÇ¥
