A message appears on your neocom. The message appears to be little more than a standard contract (For those of you that have already expressed which side of the mission you will only receive the contract for your stated side. If you are still undecided then accepting one contract locks you out of accepting the other.)

Greetings Mercenary,
We would like to purchase your services in recovering an individual from a guarded facility. It will be a simple recovery and extraction of a single individual. You will be making up a small unit of Mercenaries working in coordination with our own forces. You come highly recommended and will be compensated accordingly. Should you accept the contract more information will be given to you. We look forward to working with you.
If you accepted the mission a second message is recieved.

The following mission is the recovery and extraction of the Amarrian scientist Luxanne Thaira. She is a Biotech and VR specialist that we would like to acquire. She is currently testing equipment during an uprising on a small Amarrian colony on the outskirts of Amarr space. With the Amarr forces focused on putting down the uprising we would like to take advantage of the situation.
Due to the facilities air defenses the use of standard drop methods is not advisable. To combat this we will be dropping you planet side using ODPGÇÖs (orbital drop pods). The planet was previously terraformed and suffers from major sandstorms that obscure vision and can wreck havoc on observation equipment. We will be using one of these sandstorms to cover your descent. Your drop will place you roughly a kilometer outside of the facility. Use the storm cover to make your advance into the building. Once inside expect heavy resistance.
The target is expected to be within the lowest levels of the facility where the labs are located. (A glowing marker on the provided map indicates her most likely location). After she is recovered you are to make it to the extraction point 15 kilometer away. (The map marks the extraction zone with a glowing marker). We will do our best to drop in supplies.

Good day Immortal,
It has recently come to our attention that one of our employees may be the target of a kidnapping attempt. Although the individual in question is protected the family of the individual has requested increased security. The corporation also believes that taking extra precautions are for the best in this situation. Due to the nature of the contract the length of the job is subject to change. You will be paid accordingly.
If the mission from Carthum Conglomerate is accepted you receive another message from them.

We have recently received information regarding the potential abduction of the scientist Luxanne Thaira. She is a member of the Khanid Empire and a valuable researcher. She is currently field testing a number of experiments in the outer fringes of the empire. Due to the remote location we are relying on you to provide protection. The information we received claims that an attack is imminent, but we do not know the exact time. The majority of the facilities forces are currently focused on putting down a small uprising. This has left the research facility with only about a platoon worth of soldiers. In the event that the abductors break through the facilities defenses you are to escort the scientist out of the lab and to the designated safe house until assistance can arrive. Please be aware that sandstorms are not uncommon so please be aware if you must leave the facility.
(A photo of the target is included in both packets of information. She is a thin woman with slightly sunken cheeks. A pair of glasses helps to hide the dark circles under her eyes from a lack of sleep. Her long brown hair is pulled back into a ponytail.)

Dr. Luxanne Thaira
With her head buried in a mountain of data she let out an annoyed sigh. The research was progressing, but not as quickly as she had planned. The sandstorms had caused numerous delays with the project, they were limited in the time they were capable of testing. It was infuriating to know that her research was being delayed by something outside of her own control, and that was only one of several projects she was working on at the moment.
Luxanne was running through the data from the most recent tests, and to her agitation the implants were still not running efficiently. She was going through the data again and making minor adjustments. It was something she could have had an assistant run through but she didnGÇÖt trust them to do it correctly. A single error could end up setting them back several days.
The Doctor was so focused on the information laid before her that she never even realized that the Templar had entered the lab. She only vaguely recognized anotherGÇÖs presence when he spoke for the second time.
True Adamance wrote:"It's my shift watching over you Doctor.....and its about time you eat....or sleep...."
With considerable effort she forced her gaze up. She gave the Templar a tired but genuine smile. She was glad that it was the Templar that now stood before her; she disliked having to deal with the Caldari mercenary for reasons she could not be bothered to try to explain. It may have been his insistence on being called Captain. Something about the way he carried himself annoyed her.
It had been nearly a week since they had arrived, and she had hardly noticed them, except now she had more people trying to tell her when to eat or sleep. The majority of her assistants had given up on that endeavor some time ago. She had initially found their presence burdensome. She found having to remember who they were taxing and more than a little annoying. Eventually she got use to their presence.
GÇ£Templar Ouryon, I didnGÇÖt hear you enter. And IGÇÖm fine I slept earlier, besides there is to much work to be done.GÇ¥ Her response was quick but surprisingly polite. The lack of sleep and nourishment may have started affecting her personality.
The dark circles underneath her eyes betrayed her claim of having slept. Even the glasses she wore could no longer hide them. As far as food went she wasnGÇÖt quite sure when the last time she ate was, or what day it was for that matter. The days had long sense dissolved into one another. She wasnGÇÖt even sure how long the mercenaries had been there. It could have been a few days or a few weeks she wasnGÇÖt really sure. That knowledge was irrelevant to her task at hand.
Dr. Thaira turned back to her screens making more adjustments. She wasnGÇÖt about to go to sleep and seeing as she had no food within arms reach that was also out of the question.

Drop Team
GÇ£Storms coming in.GÇ¥ The voice shook slightly as the words were spoken.
They had been waiting for the last five days for the right storm to form. The information coming in told them they would only have to wait only a little bit longer. Unfortunately the mission relied on something as unpredictable as nature to accomplish. Thankfully the slow spinning mass of sand and stone was willing to comply. Those of the Amarr faith might have seen it as some divine sign. Those aboard the stealthed ship floating in orbit saw it as an opportunity.
Inside of the weapons bay the soldiers had begun loading into the drop pods. The pods, just like the ship they were on were more than just minimalist. The ships were fitted with only the bare essentials. A stark contrast to the aesthetics of the Amarrian foes they would soon be facing.
The majority of the soldiers dropping in were from the Krusual Tribe, however not all of them were from the Minmitar Republic. Eifyr & Co. had contacted soldiers-for-hire, the immortal mercenaries, to ensure that the mission was successful.
GÇ£The storm front will be at the target coordinates in 30 minutes.GÇ¥
GÇ£Make final preparations, we launch in 30 minutes.GÇ¥

Drop Team
GÇ£Sir, the storm has just reached its target location.GÇ¥
GÇ£Begin the operation.GÇ¥
Inside the pods a voice announced the beginning of the operation, and of their impending drop. The soldiers quickly made last second adjustments before they were launched from the tubes, and began their descent planet side.
The journey would take several minutes, their approach covered in part by the storm. The warning systems and sensors would probably pick something up, but it would be lost in the storm.
As the pods descended towards the planet those inside were exposed to a considerable amount of G-force, making movement all but impossible. While the frames the soldiers wore provided protection they were only so useful against the forces of gravity.
At the last possible moment the pods activated thrusters to slow their descent. The landing would be anything but comfortable, but it would deliver them in a single piece. The sudden change in momentum was a signal that they were about to land.
The attacking forces had been split up into two teams. One unit was to breach from the northern side of the facility. They were to cause as much confusion and chaos as possible in their search for the doctor. The second team was smaller and entering through the east entrance near the garage. They were to eliminate any hostile forces and potential threats en route towards the labs, securing an escape route as they went.
(The drop pods will act as CRU units. They are armed with a small blaster turret run by an AI). |

Bridge GǣSirGǪWe just lost contact with the mercenaries.Gǥ
The storm had caused heavier damage than they had initially anticipated. The potential loss of units due to the storm was a given. However the potential loss of the immortals was still a heavy blow.
GÇ£Reestablish communication with the ground forces. I doubt the mercenaries fell before getting their boot on the ground.GÇ¥
The communications officer on the bridge did as they were ordered, but only static was heard on the other end.
GÇ£The storm is causing to much interference. We cannot reestablish communications until the storm lets up.GÇ¥
GÇ£How long until the storm passes?GÇ¥
GÇ£About 15 minutes until we can reestablish comms.GÇ¥
They had factored in the blackout into their battle plan, but actually having to wait it out was unbelievably nerve wracking. The only comforting thought was that both sides were fighting under similar conditions. Those left in the labs would be cut off from the rest as well. In most scenarios a blind soldier was a dead soldier.
Although the storm had caused damage the majority of the Krusual soldiers had arrived safely, or as safely as dropping from orbit in a steel coffin could be.
Under the cover of the storm they were able to quickly group up and begin the operation.
Lab: North Wing
One of the walls was suddenly ripped apart in a massive explosion. Ferrocrete and steel rained down upon the unsuspecting scientists. Warning sirens were accompanied by flashing lights. A calm voice came over the internal security communication system explaining the situation. Despite the severity of the situation that was taking place the voice remained nearly emotionless. The defense forces were quickly mobilized to deal with the unexpected threat, although the nature of the attack caused them to respond slowly.
The public channel on the other hand was filled with chaos and confusion. The scientists that inhabited the facility were unaccustomed to the chaos of war. Most had only dealt with it from behind the safety of their neocoms.
Amidst the confusion and flames the Amarr defense forces engaged with the Krusual soldiers.

Hanger
As Galm continued to speak the women raised her weapon, now aiming at his head. She was about to say something as she was interrupted by one of the others.
GÇ£WeGÇÖve got Paladins incoming. They probably saw or felt what we did. No idea on exact numbers, storm is making it to difficultGÇ¥ The one speaking was carrying a large backpack connected to ancient looking communications equipment.
She sneered at the mention of Paladins. They had been tracking a patrol when the storm hit. They had planned on taking them engaging them before some smart-mouthed jackass who decided to park in the hanger roof interrupted their operation.
GÇ£Secure him and keep him out of the way. Those Paladins are most likely coming to investigate. Our goal remains the same.GÇ¥
Lower her weapon she started directing her troops, strategically placing them for an ambush. Another rebel approached Galm. He was young, under normal circumstances he would have been in school.
GÇ£Sorry about this,GÇ¥ As he spoke he bound GalmGÇÖs hands using a pair of standard issue manacles designed to hold standard humans.
GÇ£WeGÇÖre about to get into a fight, and she don't want to get you involved.GÇ¥
GÇ£Thirty secondsGÇ¥
The rebels took their positions and aimed at the hanger entrance. The young man dragged Galm over to a corner, out of the direct line of fire. He turned his back towards Galm as he raised his own weapon and concentrated on the door. The boy shook as he took aim.
At the twenty second mark the hanger suddenly exploded in a bright white light. The sound of scrambler and laser rifles echoed off of the metal hanger walls. The Amarr weapons went unanswered a brief second before a response came. The older projectile weapons wielded by the rebels rang out loudly.
The Paladins had anticipated some sort of ambush and had prepared accordingly. The rebel ambush was quickly becoming an Amarr ambush.
