I was in one of those games yesterday that froze, where everyone else stayed put and I was able to wander around. I was near the enemy mcc end (of fracture road I think it's called) and I ran into the enemy redline and kept running. 2km later I'm still going there are cities up ahead and full detailed landscapes. This went on until I was 2,300m from point C (our home point). Now I'm no programmer but surely this must be a waste of precious resource. And why is it there? Where we going to travel between districs on the ground at some point? |

This is interesting. I'm guessing that all map data is stored in the client and that the unreal engine renders object detail within a specific proximity to the avatar, so I don't think that computing resources would be wasted by simply having those outlying objects included in the map. If you're referring to development resources being wasted, perhaps matches were originally planned to take place on a much larger scale than they are today (which would be cool IMO).

All of the maps in DUST 514 are actually connected to each-other, and in some cases if you look off into the distance you can see another map.
I wish they had a special server where there was no redline, so we can explore everything.
And nothing of value was lost that day...

I wish they had a special server where there was no redline, so we can explore everything. wrong OOO!!! each map in its full size is about 10km by 10km (max, some are smaller)conquest plays in the largest currently of about 1km by 1km(max , again some are smaller). this was done for "fixed wing" flight style aircraft which was removed in alpha and hasn't came back but where planned to at some random time if dust grew large enough player base.

He isn't wrong. An easy example is if you look behind A on Border Gulch (Dom) you can see Impact Ridge.
Can't say I'm all that surprised.
I've been drinking and may be drunk.... probably like most dust players.

logibro stated before that the whole landscape is drawn in wire frame (like the one in the warbage)
