I've finally done it. I've finally earned enough (about 1.2 million SPs) for my Scout Suit skill to level five.
Chuffed with mydelf, as I was, I headed off to the local dropsuit emporium to see what I was able to both use and purchase.
This is where I feel a bit of a fool; where are the level five scout dropsuits? Is there a different way to gather them that I have missed entirely?

What race is this dropsuit? Anyways, go to Marketplace, then Dropsuits, click on scout, find the race of your scout and look for the scout frame level.
Example: A-1 Commando (STD Suit, LV1) A-1 Series Commando (ADV Suit, LV3) ak.0 Commando (PRO Suit, LV 5)
I recommend you join this chat channel: Learning Coalition
Also, don't use proto suits until you have proto modules/weapons.

also, a standard or advanced suit with their suit skills at lvl 5 can be pretty scary too. |

Depends on what scout you picked, but you'll want to go to Dropsuits, then Scouts. All the races are listed together, so scroll down through until you get your race of scout and look for the one marked xk.0.
So: Amarr: Ak.0 Gallente: Gk.0 Minmatar: Mk.0 Caldari: Ck.0
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Thanks for the reply. I have had Gallente raised to level five and it seems that I can use the gk.0 suit now, though I don't see a fat lot of advantage over the previous suit that I had.
Perhaps I am not using the right equipment to beef it up.
Thanks, your reply was appreciated and most helpful.

Thanks, your replies were appreciated and most helpful. It will be more worth it once you have modules, equipment, and weapons to make full use of the suit.
Skill level also has something to do with it. I have had lvl 5 minja for over a year, and only ran proto suits when I didn't care about losing isk. Otherwise I stick to standard as it fits my haphazard style of play.
This is how a minja feels

Thanks, perhaps I need to look at better modules next. Off to load up the game to see what I am missing in the market place.

You get the profile bonus on all the suit tiers.
You don't really need to use proto suits if there is no performance increase.
I run proto sniper rifles on an ADV mini scout outfit for the occasionally counter sniping. Until I get complex damage mods there is no point going to the next tier as I will do the same damage and just be more expensive.
I get the full 25% damage and hacking bonus on any of my suits. So a hit and run hack is find with a basic suit as its is expendable money wise.
I'd say the hardest thing to fit on a cheaper suit is KinCats.

The biggest money drain for newer players is thinking the proto suit is what wins the game. In reality the dropsuit itself has little to no increased benefits as far across the tiers except for the obvious racial bonus.
What a proto suit does give you is: Slots and increased PG/CPU
Your proto suit is nothing without the modules to back them up. First and foremost I would look at your skills:
Dropsuit Upgrades -> Armor/Shield Dropsuit Upgrades -> Core -> Electronics/Engineering
If you don't have all 4 of those to level 3 at least, I wouldn't bring out that proto suit at all. That's a big sink of money for a suit not ready yet. Get your core skills up first (listed above), then modules, THEN suit.

EDIT: Words. I haz them.
