Check out how close the other candidates were to winning this election. I won't pretend to understand how this works completely but I am currently googling it and reading the pdf linked by ccp!

Also how come Appia isnt in the final 7 and IWS is? (no comment on either candidate there, i am merely trying to understand the outputs)

They needed 118 to be elected and excess votes got transferred over to other candidates. Every round someone was eliminated until there were only 7. This is just my best guess. I still have not finished reading up on how this whole process works.

Judge won the largest share of the votes, which is kind of sad because I know he isn't particularly interested in PvE and that is a huge focus for me.

Looks like somehow during the calculations that appia and pokey were skipped.. hmm.

Actually whats surprising is how some of the mega corps / alliances didn't seem to vote at all for their primary 'no.1' candidate? was the spread the issue i wonder?
The critical part of STV is to vote for your no.1 dude with your no.1 vote as this is the first seat considered. all other votes are then aggregated across the voter spread in subsequent calculations.
Judge getting almost 300 votes in the first pass got him in the door first above all others who needed the following recalculation of votes to secure their seats.
I knew youtube was powerful but didn't expect it to be a run away success like this. GG judge and everyone. |

its in the follow up recalcualtions, they did well in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place votes but were not strong contenders for the 4th etc votes and this is looking as to why IWS got in as he was always going to be a stronger 2nd or so vote.

In fact now i look at the data - i can perhaps see what was the Achilles heel of some of the candidates.
The 'self endorsement' saga may have actually been the worst thing they could have done. This created cross votes for sure but as there was no consensus as to the ranking of each endorsement it meant that those lower in the endorsed lists would fair worse when the recalculations were taken into account
This is likely why some of the stronger candidates higher up the ranking tree, lose out to stronger lower ranked candidates. E.g. if everyone had put someone as a v strong 3rd vote - it would have meant they got in as they would have had 118 or more rank 3 votes.
Its quite interesting to see how this has played out with all but one candidate having to rely heavily on multiple ranked votes to get in. Had this been a normal vote system, we would have an entirely different CPM (cept judge who won it as a landslide)
just my 2 cents.

I don't believe many people "copy and pasted" an endorsement list by a specific candidate or followed their ranking so closely. I mean I would like to believe that most people have minds of their own and would have their own lists in their mind. Using the endorsement list only for reference to learning how candidates felt about each others positions...
Well at least I did not do that. I voted for who I believed should be cpm, endorsed by my favorite candidate or not.

Actually id say quite a few did, i had people in my alliance asking for the exact ranking of votes to cast, i told them vote for who ever you want (Judge, Tesfa, Moss and Appia being by faves) but no 3 line whip.

I was in the ballot 246 times; problem was that I was usually really far down the line. Considering that Judge Rhadamanthus had more than three times the votes of the next person (Kevall Longstride), anyone that came after him in the voter's list didn't matter.
Just the nature of the Single Transferrable Vote. The only thing that matters is who's in that first position.

Basically means what while we had a good number of #1 votes, we didn't have enough votes on the other ballots as secondary choices, so when those candidates won, their votes rolled over to someone else instead of us and thus the people that got the rollovers ended up with more votes overall.
Oh well, maybe next year. This year was an uphill battle because I was far less known and was fighting to overcome that. Hopefully it'll be less of an issue next year. Special congrats to Cross, that dude knows his **** and can hopefully keep everyone from killing each other |
