I can see why not many play this game anymore though...
It all started when players realized the potential of LLAVs and their application as a "Murder Taxi" (defined as the act of driving up to a victim, then exiting the vehicle and killing the target instantly, and/or running victims over with incredible speed). Soon, every match had several LLAVs running rampant, and Infantry became restless.
To address this pandemic, players began arming themselves to the teeth with Anti-Vehicle weaponry, turning a nearly extinct subset (AVers) into a readied faction (albeit smaller than other subsets).
One AV Weapon, was known as the Swarm Launcher. This weapon was able to down all but the best fitted HAVs in 3-4 Swarms (4.2s), and was the go-to weapon for anyone who wanted to make an A/DS pilot's life misery. Another AV weapon, was the Forge Gun. It's low charge time and high alpha not only made it an effective AV weapon, but a good Anti-Infantry one as well.
The most popular of these AV weapons however, were the Packed AV Grenades. Capable of decimating LAVs, SLAVs, and even poorly fitted HAVs. These took up a grenade slot, meaning you could fit them and still be completely effective against Infantry.
Vehicle pilots soon found themselves helpless against the onslaught of AVers, and their broken AV weapons that made their role impossible to use.
In an effort to make their role viable again, they rushed to the forums demanding that AV weapons (barring the Plasma Cannon) receive a reduction in efficiency. AVers, also rushed to the forums to defend against the protests and demands, fearing that the battlefield will once again be littered with indestructible vehicles insta-ganking everyone with ease.
For a very long period of time (Uprising 1.1 - Uprising 1.6), the AVer and Pilot subsets found themselves at a stalemate, unable to form a compromise. This, is mainly due to the vast amount of unreasonable demands from the Pilots, with the most well known and famous one being "It should require more than one player to destroy my one HAV/ADS).
A famous example of this, is the phrase: "Teamwork for thee, but no teamwork for me. Such is the motto of anti-vehicle Infantry". Originally coined by Spkr4TheDead, this phrase was regarded as laughably hypocritical due to the fact that it was actually him, and the Pilots who were demanding that teamwork be required for AV, but not for them.
Towards the end of Uprising 1.6 CCP then found themselves at a problem. They recognized that a problem existed between with the V/AV environment, but didn't have a solution. Unable to turn to the community, (due to the stalemate and inability to compromise).
So, CCP decided to come up with their own
changes, and the Pilots began to rejoice at the fact that AV weapons would be nerfed, while refusing to acknowledge the
consequences .
What soon followed, was quite possibly the darkest era in DUST 514's history. AVers found that their weapons couldn't even handle a MLT HAV, and that vehicles were
immune to their fire. Then, the AVers decided to launch a counter-offensive, and with the help of the more reasonable Pilots, they managed to create V/AV balance for one of the few times in DUST 514's history.
However, you'll find that while highly balanced, the role of a vehicle pilot is now monotonous, boring, and highly repetitive . I normally say this as an insult, but if you want to have fun with your vehicle your better off playing World Of Tanks.
