The co-op missions are great and this kind of pve gives you time (and loot ;) ) to get used to the game without being slaughtered by veterans. But I simply dislike the Pvp part. Ah, if only CCP actually cared about our feedbacks 2 years ago... By now, Dust would have been at the same level with a much better multiplayer. I'm with you 100%. PVE was super fun, and a reasonable challenge (especially on 'Hard', damn you level cap!), but I got my @ss handed to me (.04 KDR XD) in the Crucible event they held other night. Granted, they weren't matchmaking based on skills, and it was my first time in the Crucible (each match on a different map), but holy moly, I need to get gud (gear?).
Played Dust last night since the Beta was down, and other than a couple meh matches (eg, 15/4), I was usually hitting the low- to hi-20s with only a few deaths.
Made me think: either Dust is an old man's shooter, or I finally got a taste of that CoD-style BS. If that's the case, I'll take getting protostomped any day! |

If you have 2 teams of relatively similar players, the games are freaking intense. It mixes high HP tracking with twitch shooting thanks to the specials, and it just makes for this wicked intense experience. The games that weren't horribly stacked against me were some of the most fun I've had in FPS PvP since my Halo days back in Halo 2. I hope I'll have more fun next time, but my first time in the Crucible was during an event, so I got my @ss royally, shamefully handed to me. I hope a little more map knowledge and a better feel for the jump mechanics+finding good sniping perches, will help me. |

And Destiny's PvP is amazing, KDR started off below 1, but it's getting easier and easier, regularly getting 2+, even got 17/0 one game. It's just different to what most people are used to. Unfortunately I've come across games where there's 6 guys in a FT and 5 randoms on my team. Ok, glad to hear. My first/only two games left me with a bruised ego and a KDR of .04. Felt like I was using militia fits right out of the Academy again...
Anyway, I hope it's better in non-event (ie, basically Iron Banner) matches. |

I read something about Iron Banner using your raw gear values so better gear = better advantage, apparently it's somewhat flattened in normal Crucible matches. Also, most people who were in Iron Banner were running in teams, level 8, with mostly maxed characters. Makes sense that you'd get stomped, I know I did lol, but I still came out on top in a few of my matches. Was so much fun :) It was meh. I played for a few hours when the beta dropped last Thursday, then went right into the Crucible for the first time after an hour of play on Sunday, before the event.
I think better gear (ie, more explore mission grinding) and feel for movement (the awesomeness of double jump takes some getting used to) will help me a lot.
I really look forward to figuring out some good sniping perches, since the sniping mechanics in Destiny make it viable for hit-and-run tactics. |
