It's not protostomping that is the problem, it's the fact that good players, or vets, seem to always be running proto even though they could stomp equally hard in basic or advanced gear. I see people in proto get stomped all the time, it's cause just because you're in proto doesn't make you good (unless you're a heavy lul).
tl:dr it's the players who make the gear, not the gear that makes the player.
