Anecdote time: I booted it up with high expectations, made my character, watched the intro, "This is neat"
Played some more, and the story just started feeling so generic sci fi. Alien Horde attacks and nearly destroys humanity because of a technology they found. But wait, you, yes, you have been chosen (from a car boot) to save ze world.
So you do stuff, conveniently find a working ship to get back to the Last City. You get stuff and set out again to Old Russia. (back where you just were) You're on a map (that's the same for 5 missions) with about 8-ish people you can run into. This might not be so bad if the map wasn't so cramped. The bike you get is unnecessary. Which is good, because it handles like a drunk depressed whale with an eating disorder. Bosses are pretty uninspired. Shoot it till it dies.
Maybe I wouldn't be so negative if not for the hype, I don't know. But when I hear they spent 500 million on it, and this is the best they've got?
Maybe it's just me, maybe it's not my "style."
But it should be. I should like it, it's got stuff I should like.
Maybe you'll have a better time with it.
