So I was originally one of the guys that thought that having magic in a shooter was lame because I didn't want this turning into Harry Potter with AR's- though, after seeing the warlocks from Destiny I've eaten my own words.
I don't think it should be included so much in the game that literally everything has to do with magic, but like Destiny I think Dust should have a form of magic that's akin to science that's not well understood. Kind of like, "We can use it but we don't know how it works" type of mentality. In Destiny they have a great being who's power is used, but in Dust this obviously won't work.
So my questions for the community:
1.) Should Dust have magic?
2.) If Dust gets magic how would it fit in lore wise?

We already have technology, why would we need magic? What could you possibly add to the game that couldn't just be explained as high-level tech with a lot of scientific mumbo-jumbo?

1.) No.
2.) Besides nanite technobabble it wouldn't.
We already have healing buffs (reppers), resource buffs (hives), revives (needles), clairvoyance (scanners) and dragons (DS hue hue). If not for the cessation of content updates we'd be looking forward to freeze/chill (webs), dmg buffs (target painters), blind (tracking/sensor disruptors) mana steal/burn (nos/neuts) and probably more stuff.
Magic has no place in Dust for lore reasons and it has nothing to add to the game that couldn't be done with already existing "New Eden combatibility approved" ideas that are just waiting to be implemented.

Yo dawg we already live in a world of magic just look at magnets!!
Seriously though, why? As far as destiny goes it sounds like they might be copying Star Wars "The Force" or Warhammer 40ks Psykers. Its been done before but why would EVE want to introduce magic? And why would EVE want to introduce magic solely for a fps shoot off that's getting canned? |

There is literally nothing in the setting that could be considered 'magic'. It is sci-fi. Deal with it.

Metal Gear Solid has magic AND technology, and it works. and Harry Potter is awesome!
but yeah, I'm not sure about the actual game Dust, but I think Lore wise, a lovecraftian alien/ ancient artifact would fit right in. |

As cool as a feel being a Mage Commando(1 sidearm, modules equipped correspond to various, less concentrated attacks) example: Fit for HP: No abilities, only Sidearm.
Fit for abilities: I could have an AOE DoT attack(maybe throw a bed of harmful nanites?) A concentrated single shot, low DPS 'bolt' (maybe a pistol, that shoots 'vials' of Plasma(thus containing Hybrid-Plasma) A spam Medium DPS bolt(at proto would do less DPS than STD ar) that has a 'punch through' effect, slicing through multiple enemies with one blast.
A 'shotgun' ability with bounce off capabilities A healing 'bolt' that does 60HP or so.(would be difficult to spam, designed moreso to just temporarily bump up a supporting Logi's rep rate, or to top off that Minja who just got owned)
A type of 5-10 second AP mine, deals 200 damage in a 5m Radius, and is immune to scans(like how remotes are scanned)
Maybe a 'cluster' grenade, that shoots one Locus, but that locus separates on first impact into 7 smaller bomblets, dealing 150 a piece(800-ish total, but it's a scattershot too) imagine throwing one at a cieling high up, so you can throw a smattering of little explosions, or throwing it and hitting a guy's face, killing his team mates
All in all though, 'magic' as in a mysteriously teleporting Loki frame or a walking scannerina like Banshee, i don't think that's VER happening. Maybe if we used it as a 'logistics' spinoff role, designed to be a offensive versatility model, favoring the ability to do multiple roles based entirely off of Slot/equip layout.

There's magic everywhere in new Eden, its just that the people are smart enough to call it technology and have been for about 21,000 years.
Tends to happen once something is understood.

if the destiny beta is just a shadow of how good the game will be on release, I will probably never play dust again. |

I think that people aren't on board with your suggestion because you used "magic"
Rephrase to "Scientific Anomaly"
However I don't think that it's necessary to have something beyond scientific knowledge in the game. If I recall correctly some one once suggested Active modules for infantry, similar to superpowers. It got a lot of hits, I think I'll bump it for you.

I would love magic! After playing Destiny powers change the way combat works alot! for example.
Scouts would get a power that allows them to boost there running speed by 5m for 10s with a cooldown of 40s
Assaults would get a power that allows there weapon to shoot faster by 100rof for 10s with a cooldown of 90s
Heavys would get a power that reduces damage taken by 20% for 10s with a cooldown of 100s
Just throwing my idea out there!
If I kill you in game, look for a confirmation that says "I Just Killed You"

Magic no special abilities that are activated through our suits because they are a function of the suit yes.
for example a jetpack for assaults, cloak for scouts, shields for heavies and so on.

magic is just a matter of perspective of knowledge of medicine and technology.. like to the people of 10th century our current tech and medical knowledge will be considered magic..
but basically.. No no ******* magic in a futuristic game WTF do you think this is?! LOL? WOW? Well?! gtfo of here with this stupid waste of time post.
