I propose a new game mode: Duel
Send a challenge to a nemesis or friend via a new menu option under "SOCIAL" called "DUEL INVITATION".
The challenger sets the timer to 5, 10, or 15 minutes and chooses the map.
Once accepted, both players pay an ante and bid up the pot.
Whoever gets the most kills takes all the money. In a tie, both players split the winnings.
Kill type can be set to Mercenary, LAV, HAV or Dropship. For example: if set to Dropship, then only dropship destruction counts as a kill.
Additionally, there could be a squad vs squad mode as well, or make that the default mode and if players want to go 1 vs 1 then they can simply lock their squad after creating it.

It took years for CCP to add duels to EVE. Hopefully they add this sooner.

When you think about it, it's probably the best way to reduce the wallets of all pub match full-time proto-running tryhards that used PC as an isk faucet. Give em a way to blow all that money cloning each other to smithereens in proto. The butthurt will be enormous, and they won't be able to stop themselves once they get going.

Basically it was two mercs with shotguns fighting on a small set of platforms

They sound like fun!
I would create "Forge Arena" tomorrow if this happened. 250k/500k/1m/whatever a go - test your might with the Forge gun in a one on one!
Hell a lot of weapons would make for incredibly tense and fun 1v1s! Melee only, Nova Knifes, Laser Rifles, Sidearms... pretty much anything a little out of the ordinary.

I meant IRL expensive. Battle Servers have a cost of spin up.

The pot could be split between the winners.
A corp for lonewolves where squadding and comms are optional, but exceptional team play is expected.
