Does the Magsec SMG do proper damage / DPS / range / RoF to be a low CPU alternative to a Light Weapon, much like how you can effectively use lets say an Assault SMG as your main?

Funny that you mentioned that because I was killed by one today and that's just rare for me and made me wonder .
I have advanced but mostly used my SMG's because I have Prof in them but , maybe it's time for me to invest because I know there was a problem with their skills applying .
That must be fixed now .
You would think that CCP would have given the infantry refund that should have been in 1.8.

SMG is king if you compare it to the magsec. Less kick, better accuracy, good range, high rate of fire assault variants are even better. For me the SMG is the best side arm period. |

Because it has an unfair -5% to shields and high RoF weapons tend to be the winner because of latency, hit detection, etc.

i use a magsec on my hmg fit's. they are mean little things. they are worth trying if you want a change.

They can definitely replace a Light Weapon as a main if you're engaging in that 20-40m range. That's where they excel. CQC the SMG is better, past 40 and you should be looking for a longer ranged light weapon like the Rail or Scrambler.

I tried that for a while (disclaimer: I am very much an amateur sentinel and run it rarely), and while the range was nice to offset the main weakness of the HMG, scouts running around me in circles became very frustrating if they closed in while I was trying to reload the HMG.
