I can't speak for other Races because I'm most familiar with the Gallente but for them I'd say:
Gallente:
Level 1 Federal Marine; Militiaman
Level 2 Federal Marine; Proximity Soldier
Level 3 Federal Marine; Field Soldier
Level 4 Federal Marine; Specialist
Level 5 Federal Marine; Agent
Level 6 Federal Marine; Corporal
Level 7 Federal Marine; Sergeant
Level 8 Federal Marine; Lieutenant
Level 9 Federal Marine; Captain
Level 10 Federal Marine; Federal Marshal

Here's what we came up with after a while of chatting over it:
10 - Luminaire Marshal 9 - Federation Captain 8 - Federation Commander 7 - Aegis Lieutenant 6 - Shield Lieutenant 5 - Federal Officer 4 - Guardian Sergeant 3 - Vanguard Sergeant 2 - Federal Sentinel 1 - Federal Marine
EDIT: I'm not sure how this tagging system will work. Would it be possible to get a dropdown list of all the titles you have in the forum 'settings' menu, so you can choose which one you want from the ones you have unlocked? It seems like a good way to resolve inter-racial title conflicts and also allow people to not show tags if they don't want to (for example, if they played FW for only a moment and didn't really feel like being called X rank). Gallente Sgt Kirk approves of the Ranking

MINA Longstrike wrote:I am kind of working on amarr names with true adamance. What's your thoughts on the gallente ones posted kirk? To answer your question and being completely honest; no, I do not like the proposed ones except for the Minmatar.
The problem with what everybody is trying to do here is make all the factions have bombastic, flamboyant names like the ones mentioned previously before. Having all the names that sound like what's been proposed sounds boring and dull only because you'll have all races sounding the same which in turn makes their "unique fantasy sounding names" not so unique sounding.
Personally I feel that all factions should have their own feel to their ranking system.
The proposed names for the Minmatar are pretty much perfect for them because of their tribal background, and what influence of humanity they are based on. Their influence being, Northern European, African and various "Third world regions" that would take kindly to the more mythological and such. That is their Background, and that is why the proposed names match them.
Then you have the Amarr. Yes, their rankings would be more unique than what we'd be used to be you have to think about where the Amarr influence comes from. The Amarr, while flashy and bombastic, are also very Noble and their names should reflect that. They would be very similar to the positions of a Abrahamic-religious church but in a more, militaristic and "chivalrous" manner. Think Crusading knights fused with Persia from the crusades and other military religious type "factions" from humanity's past. That's what Amarr should have their rankings from.
The Gallente and Caldari however are interesting to talk about. They are the ones in New Eden that would have the most militaristic, traditional rankings because of their similar origins (Gallente and Caldari are heavily fused with each other in history for those of you who did not know and were once the same faction) as well as their individual culture and history.
Caldari, while sounding more influenced by what Japan and Central European tones would still have a very stern sounding militaristic tone to it. A very honorable, dutiful people with a strong sense of valor. Their names should reflect as such
Lastly you have the Gallente, which oddly the simplest one for me to explain. While Gallente do love to name many of their things from Mediterranean area based Mythology as well as some others it's not as infused with the Culture as say the Minmatar are with their mythology or Amarr are with their religion. The best way to think of the Gallente would be the Modern Western World, yes we may name some of our things after mythology of past but it is in no way a major part of our Culture, the same is with Gallente. The Gallente would Naturally have the most traditional sounding rankings primarily because of their background. The Gallente influence for the most part is based on Western Europe. Most of the Military rankings the world uses today originated from the Region Gallente are based from and have the majority of their influence from. So Gallente Probably wouldn't get rid of longstanding traditions that have been with Humanity for ages in place of some Greek Folklore that they'd prefer to just name objects after since they came from the place where the ranks originated from in the first place.
What we should heavily stay away from is having all races sound the exact same with no regards to Lore and history of each. While you guys are looking at a part of the lore for the races you are only looking at a small part of that faction and ignoring history all together and naming the military rankings off of that single piece of knowledge that is known.
I think we can do better than the names that are being proposed, more lore appropriate ones, although the Minmatar is spot on.

MINA Longstrike wrote:Jaysyn Larrisen wrote:I'm tracking MINA. Heck the Tengu is a Japenese deamon. I was just trying to mix in some of the different names that match the lore. I'm pretty sure I read in an article here Hilmar described the Caldari to an interviewer in the terms "...a mix of Japanese corporations, Finnish machinists, and German military". He didn't say "****" but it seemed implied it was WWII era Vermacht. The ****** youth aspect of the caldari is largely due to the tube children after the decimation of caldari prime. Ethnically the caldari are American, German/Russian, and Japanese. Socially they draw the most from Japanese and American corporate cultures (where in japan your boss can tell you to take three weeks off to go and find a woman and get married and that there's office mixers between your place and this other company), and to a lesser extent they draw from other things. Sgt Kirk wrote:wordswordswords I highly suggest you check out the links that I provided with caldari ship names, because in there you can also view all the other faction ship names as well (not just the ones that eve pilots use, but the ones the various empire navies themselves use). For the most part, the names suggested thus far fit the tone and theme of each race very well. Liking or Disliking them is totally up to you, but I'd suggest that if you don't like what people have suggested, make your own suggestions - don't let others decide for you.
You haven't read a single thing I've said nor have you even read any of the previous post have you. We have already made a ranking system for the Gallente that we feel is appropriate. I also already hinted that there is a difference in what you'd name a vehicle built for war and what you'd title a being based in his position in the military.
you do not have Russian military ranking calling themselves Crocodile General and such just because they name their vehicles and objects after such things.
Who's deciding for me? I do not see where someone has made a decision for me anywhere. You're coming off as offended because I did not like 3/4 of the suggestions.

So far from this thread here are the one's I see as the best here.
Hopefully this serves as a guideline to what each race is about.
Amarr:
True Adamance wrote: 1- Initiate or Disciple 2- Guardsman or Militae 3- Guardian 4- Paladin 5- Exalted Paladin 6- Legate 7- Templar 8- Templar Captain 9- Templar Imperator 10- Divine Captain of the Imperial Guard or Scutariorum Imperatrix (Means Bodyguard of the Empress)
Caldari:
Galm Fae wrote: I) Shaatei (Lowest ranking member. IE "Ensign Ricky.") II) Nit+ěhei (Equal to a Private) III) Goch+ě (Corporal) IV) Guns+ě (Sergeant) V) S+ěch+ě (Sergeant Major) VI) Chuigun (Lieutenant) VII) Taiikugun (Captain) VIII) Sh+ěsa (Major) IX) Taisa (Colonel) X) Taish+ě (General)
Gallente:
Gallente Skype Channel wrote: 10 - Luminaire Marshal 9 - Federation Captain 8 - Federation Commander 7 - Aegis Lieutenant 6 - Shield Lieutenant 5 - Federal Officer 4 - Guardian Sergeant 3 - Vanguard Sergeant 2 - Federal Sentinel 1 - Federal Marine
Minmatar:

I think you've got a pretty good list with the exception of the Caldari. My only real beef with it is that it's the outlier from the other three races in terns of language. All the factions actually have their own languages in addition to the common speech across the Empires but we tend to focus no he Caldari language (or our proximity of that) Let me think on it a bit and I'll post up some other options.
Yeah I saw this as a problem as well but that's the only way I saw for the Gallente and Caldari to have similar meanings while being unique but as always there is always a better way.
Hopefully you can come up with something better.
Maybe if Amarr and Minmatar had more root words than their english counterpart?
Give Minmatar some actual nordic and african words in place of what is listed. Of course they'll mean the same thing but in that language.
Do the same for Amarr as well.
Maybe that would make Caldari less of an outlier, but I really do like the sound of a Tashio for Caldari level 10

Mobius Kaethis wrote:MINA Longstrike wrote:Mobius Kaethis wrote:Nocturnal Soul wrote:I see the caldari as the imperialistic era of Japan if that helps :| No way. The caldari are hyper-capitalists with a side of facism. Think Ron Paul's wet dream (Libertarianism for the non-americans). I think names based upon something from Mussolini era Italy or Franco era Spain would be more fitting. You greatly misunderstand the caldari if that's all you think there is to them. You're so wrong it isn't even funny. What more is there to understand Mina they are an extremely nationalistic corporatocracy with militaristic tendencies. Japan, prior to the post WWII reconstruction era was a feudal dictatorship with zero independent capitalism on a major scale, a fact dictated by the Japanese cast system, which at the time placed merchants right above the untouchable classes that worked with tanning hides and waste disposal. The caldari are ruled by a governing group of corporations. There were no corporations in premodern Japan. The closest you are going to get were the Dutch traders who were only allowed in a single port city (Nagasaki) and were an extremely small influence on the coutnry as a whole due to the Shogunate's policies. Frano's Spain or Mussollini's Italy are much more closely related to the portrayal of the Caldari since they were 1) capitalisitc facist states where the goverment was essentially run by a leader who was in bed with the corporate powers. 2) They were highly militaristic emphasizing exactly the same kinds of martial ideas espoused by the Caldari. Additionally have you even looked at the Caldari character models in EvE? The are for the most part European, with very few features of Asiatic peoples. The issue doesn't seem to be that I don't understand Japan or the Caldari, its that you have no clue what you are talking about. Your dime store understanding of Japanese history really isn't enough to make a cross cultural comparison with Bugs Bunny let alone a fictions society with the same depth of background as the Caldari. Consider your self "historianed." <--its like being "lawyered but way less applicable to daily life and really only something actual historians can pull off.
Well I was cautioned by Arkena to be nice to the people in this thread but I'll throw that **** to the wind now.
Mobius is pretty spot on. Like I said before, there's more to look at than one tiny factor of the empires. You're going to have to know a little bit of history both real world history and New Eden Lore to properly have a grasp at what's going on.
Arkena, do I have permission to stop playing nice now?

There a Gallente Loyalist Chat and we discussed and agreed on those rankings.
So the Gallente Rankings are backed by the Three most notable Gallente Loyalist on the English forums: Arkena, Cat and Sgt Kirk, of course others like it as well ;)

@CeeJ Mantis
Problem is that we can be more than mercenaries. Not just mercenaries. CCP yet again failed to explain the lore behind this game which leads to people saying what you just said.

CeeJ Mantis wrote:Seems to me that this topic is getting filled with at lot of personal agendas and non-constructive conversation, so let me try helping this along.
Side A: We want these names to feel awesome and important and have a connection to the lore of the eve universe, and even possibly add to this universe. We did a lot of research, and feel like names like this work best.
Side B: We want names that sound like ranks, or titles of responsibility (chief, treasurer, sergeant) because they quickly denote relative standing, and because they make me feel like I am a solider, or at least a person who has earned something from their rank.
Side A: We understand why you want to have your names, but feel them to be inappropriate. We have no responsibility assigned to our standings level. It only effects payout. Calling people by names suggested in your lists seems inappropriate to the lore/mechanics of the game. Other things with your lists are inconsistent with the various factions' cultures. They seem appropriate on a cursory glance based on the common perception of the races (super capitalist/communists, generic tribal people, space Americans, religious zealots), but the races are much more complex than that, and I would like to explore that lore, and get other people to explore it too. I think this is a great, non intrusive venue to explore that.
Side B: I don't like your suggestions as they have no meaning to the layman, nor to us. They seem over-researched and too complex at a cursory glance. We want something with more meaning in a practical sense. Our lists get the point across nicely, and we fee like having these names lets us casually refer to (and be referred to by) others. It much easier to feel like gaining standings levels is an achievement worthy of praise when you can understand it and tell other people about how exciting it is (Or boast about it with the other forum warriors).
Side C: It seems as though the community is split. Both sides have good points. It also seems that some hardcore rollplayers like the complex intricate lore as they feel connected to their race of choice, but do not necessarily enjoy being associated with some of the facets of the culture. Others like a race from it's simple ideals rather than their original racial origins. Ideally we need a system that encourages exploration and involvement in the lore of the universe, yet easily conveys rank and accomplishment to the average person, and is not so abstract or simple that it confuses/frustrates people. How about we compromise and think of solutions? If we work together we can make something that everyone can be happy and excited about, or at least not overly dislike.
Now that that is all out of the way and we can get back to constructive dialog, (I know that I'm asking asking for this on an internet forum), I propose this solution. How about we have the complex lore names juxtaposed with a easy system such as numbers (or Roman numerals, or noble titles)? i.e. Gallente Rank 8 Gyges This allows ease of understanding, but includes lore elements that tie into the culture and history of the factions. I would be happy to see what other ideas people can come up with as long as they are solution oriented, and not an internet **** measuring contest.
This is not a good summarization. You said that Side A prefers the sounds of actual ranks when this isn't the case. Traditional sounding ranks would only work with Caldari and Gallente the same area of ranking would not work for Minmatar and Amarr. You have to look into more than just one area of a races lore, I.E. background to give them their rankings. There's much more to what the realist are saying than what you're oversimplifiing here.

Woah, hold on here. The Sgt in my name is a nickname literally because I'm usually squad lead. It has nothing to do with role play. although I have made up a story where I always ended up leading a squad in my character background.
