For the future of Dust we need a complete NPE and somewhat tiered matchmaking system.
The PS3 in the next 1-2 years will slowly loose market in North America and the European markets.
But the world accepts technology at different rates, Brazil for example to buy a PS4 is around 1800 dollars, India is in a similar boat, aswell as several South american and Asian countries which are huge emerging markets. Where in turn.. these markets are now accepting PS3's at reduced and affordable costs, with ttheir entertainment and streaming value, huge game list and rather large online store.
Sony has even admitted they where surprised by how new markets are accepting their PS3's at surprising rates and have now made public statements about supporting it for another 3 years and possibly further if the market is there.
If DUST and CCP can at least market their product on the PSN stores and build a "Ratatti Like Oversight" on New player Education and development and then matchmaking as they progress to 5 million skill points before being dumped into general population. DUST could find alot of continued success right upto Legion launch, or who knows? maybe in parallel.
For my own selfish wants? A full player market or racial parity.
For Legion's benefit? New map's or at least the basic layouts of them.. So they can start to be battle tested right now and adjusted before CCP launches or does anything. |

Thing with this is more "Domination is dead" and "Skirmish is a ghost town". Then adding another game mode will further obsolete all 4 game modes.. and let's not even discuss FW.
The large problem with DUST is population, and then keeping the players that we do attract to make the download and attempt to give this F2p product a try.
Yes I would love to be greedy and ask for features that would make my direct gameplay momentarily enjoyable.. But largely if we can cycle in a group of players into DUST's population and start to retain them for a few months, Everything in this game will feel more lively and with purpose.
Sadly I don't feel this can be done right away or even in a month.. More like 2-3 months.
And in order to do this we really need to segregate EVERYONE that joins DUST 514 with a new character, take them by the hand and show them the way of the Nanohive,Uplink,MLT Tank,Dropship Lav,Locus,Flux,AV.. Teach them the different suit options and weapon sizes, walk them through what DUST 514 is And create some what of a journey in the process.
Then create a semi tiered matchmaking system a Battle Academy limited to players under 1m skill point players to play against each other in the starting area. -1-5 million skill point players play in their own, with cut down smaller versions of maps and limited game mode selection. -Then the general population public matches, FW's and PC's after.
Yes the starting area's aren't all the time going to be full 16vs16.. But with scaled down maps and the new nature and fast games and "taste of DUST" we are trying to give.. it will fit in perfectly for a player making the journey to 5 million skill-points and beyond.
It is the only thing that would fuel the legitimacy of development on things that Veterans would want, like Racial parity, New game modes, Player Market.. etc. |

Thanks Proper Hit Detection... 5 players shooting at the same time couldn't do any damage to a light frame... May be some server maintenance or something... Framerates on PUBS are lolworthy... Hit detection on certain players from certain Corps... Don't know if its the game or if those players are doing something special...
Hit detection works. Just completely assbackwards from how you would think it would work. It's more GTA hit detection then Counter-strike.
When your crosshairs "Red" is the only time CCP's servers and your playstation actually says"Ok your bullets will now hit" There is no dynamic hit detection and true hit scan weapons.
In Counter-strike you take your gun and crosshairs to the nearest wall and you fire at it... You see how your bullets travel and how your gun recoils and in what way ... The bullets then fly and behave around the characteristics of that gun in the crosshair, your learn how the bullets fly out of then gun and that is what you aim with.. Here is one of the more famous FPS players in gaming explaining what proper gun behavior looks like in a FPS. Bullets should essentially leave your gun and be able to slow down and see bullet trajectories. But there are only a few guns in DUST that do this.
In DUST? it's completely based off the "Red" crosshair.. Whether you are behind a wall, behind 10 team mates.. As long as that crosshair is "red" bullets are hitting you like they go through EVERYTHING else to get to you.
This is why even when your behind a team mate or walls your still getting hit.. Not because the server has your position different then your client. That is just a Cop out.. That would mean I would have to be in a completely different area on the server registry and so would my attacker by same theory and then how are the bullets tracking and hitting, how could the weapons actually be true hit scan weapons?
It's pretty evident CCP Wolfman just put a giant band-aid over the Aiming and hit detection mechanics of DUST... So even the way bullets register are completely ass backwards from any competitive shooter people where brought up on.
The Aiming and Hit detection mechanics of DUST in Chromosome made sense and created the sense of competition and player delivered shots. Uprising Aim assist and Hit Detection feels like someone is playing a giant joke on you when your playing.
It literally is the sole feature of this game that has created more rage quits then anything. Matchmaking has nothing on the poor concept and then implementation of the Aiming system and hit detection system of DUST 514.
I Do hope that goes on CCP Wolfman's Resume when he leaves. Cuz he did the same thing to MAG's hit detection when he worked there. |

Thanks Simple kdr matchmaking. Fixes a ton of problems, and since this game is on its way out, it fixes most of the ones that are ever going to get fixed. This So people with a high kdr can barely find a game? yeah no thanks. You wouldn't lack matches with a high kdr, you'd just be paying the 16 nearest your kdr. Every time.
You would just lack matches of any support roles what so ever.
Matchmaking needs to be done based on skill points. It's the only way that has ever been done successfully in any RPG PVP based game. And luckily DUST has the ability to do so.
You don't jump into world of warcraft.. play to lvl 20 and then they dump you in Battlegrounds with lvl 90's. It would make 0 sense.
Pretty much same situation here... There is no reason a player with 5 million skill points and under should be thrown into matches with a bunch of players who have 40-60 million skill points.
I would of loved a little more separation in the population, but it's to lacking in numbers currently to really split it any further. The Idea is more to create a new generation and group of DUST players that got to actually learn the game upto 5 million skill points before dumped into general population. |

Not everyone is a killer. Average War Points per minute is a better stat to use for matching players. At the end of each match, the rankings should be in order of war points per minute due to the fact that an outstanding player could get thrown into a match with 3 minutes left and achieve 500 WP, which is an excellent contribution to the team, yet appear low in the standings in the current ranking system (absolute WP earned in match).
wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to complicated.
This isn't JUST a FPS game. Where your trying to measure everyones slaying ability then match them up based on that.
Dust isn't even completely about slaying.. Support plays near the same vital role and often doesn't score kills or WP's in abundance.
Then we start looking at how vehicles and AV works.. and how they completely score differently then mercenaries in every way.
This game is also a MMORPG like FPS game. So everyone is leveling their toon to then play a FPS game. You wouldn't have a new player Join World of Warcraft.. Level to lvl 20 and then through them into battlegrounds with a bunch of level 90's. It just wouldn't make sense.
Same issue in DUST.
Trying to segregate slayers out of the general population so they have to go play themselves in a perpetual group will hurt the learning curve of this game more then simply giving a place for new players to have a chance at competition. |

Onesimus Tarsus wrote:I have 30 mil skill points. Newbs kill me majestically. Kdr is a measurement of who is eliminating whom the fastest. It's a simple stat, it's easily applied and calculated, and it tosses cheap tactics that kill in with skilled killers. The dross will burn away in the light of beautiful, glorious kdr mm. The only people who don't want it like a beloved son are petty kdr padders who live to stomp and nothing else.
Says the guy with 30m Skill points... that then wants to be matched with new players.
Double the SP of some of the best slayers actively playing the game currently.
Sometimes just take a step back and look at the big picture.. it helps.
If you put all the Sharks in the same pool.. And they all get tougher and meaner but take more losses.. How do they even have a high KDR to separate them?
How do you inspire lower end players to improve at all? what is the incentive?
CEO Pyrex and You should be placed in matches with other players that have high skill points, That is the matchmaking DUST needs.. Steel sharpens steel and you have all the tools at your disposal. At the same time you shouldn't be placed against full coordinated squads as a bunch of solo dudes.
The problem in DUST's matchmaking HAS and always will be putting 30m SP characters up against characters with 1-5m skill points, or even 8m tbh. There is no equal plain of competition that exists where players could then compete in that circumstance...
It's just my sh!t is better then yours because I have been playing longer "neener neener neener." I win.
Which is actually good but only in the scale of reach of that player... so a 1-5m skill point character should be fighting ADV skill point level mercenaries.. Wondering what he's dieing to and looking to buy that item or skill into it. inspiring to improve. Not seeing a Boundless HMG and a Proto Sentinel and the 3-4 months to get it.
That actually hurts sales instead of promoting them.
KDR MM is a silly concept based on selfish desires. We want the game to be better as a whole not just for a select few. |
