I was thinking about what assaults should have to make them a unique role on the battlefield. Currently they dont really have a point going for them so lets have a breakdown about the other classes:
-scouts: fast, sneaky with cloaks and can attack lone wolfers
-logis: the supply backbone of the team that provides scans, spawn points, ammo and repairs to every 1 who needs it
-heavys: the walking tank for perfect point defence
In my opinion assaults should get something unique which only they can truly benefit from (like scouts with a cloak). I was thinking about a "override assault system". It basically gives you more health regen and gun damage for a short period of time. Like with the cloak you activate it and then you swap to your gun to start assaulting a objective. I was thinking about bonuses something like this:
-"basic override assault system" +30% light weapon damage, +50% shield regen, +5hp/s armor regen duration: 20 secs, cooldown time: 20 secs cannot be deactivated before depletion, must be fully recharged to be activated again. Can only be fitted on assault suits.
-"TDC override assault system" +35% light weapon damage, +75% shield regen, +10hp/s armor regen duration: 30 secs, cooldown time: 25 secs
-"Creodron override assault system" +40% light weapon damage, +100% shield regen, +15/s armor regen duration: 40 secs, cooldown time: 30 secs
Assaults are supposed to be slayers and this way they actually become a threat rather then just a role that nobody uses. This is basically Dust 514's variant of overheating modules from Eve online. |

This here is somewhat needed to actually be remotely capable to attack heavys up front as assault. Scouts hide cloaked and wait till you turned your back to them and then they shot you in the back with a shotgun. And you seem to forget that what i have suggested must be completely recharged unlike cloaks which can be actiavted again after the 50% mark. |

Well there has beeing no real input how to balance assault suits. They are inbetween scouts and heavys but the role of the assault can be done by both more effectively. Scouts can attack from behind due to their scanning bonus and heavys just get to a objective and murder everything in sight with their HMG. The module i suggested mainly suits for a quick push and not prolonged combat or point defense like heavys. Its basically a short wave of opportunity. |

An hmg is doing more damage at 40m than a plasma rifle and most heavies have more hp than the mlt variant can do damage. It's this cockiness that keeps the game from being enjoyable. On topic: Those numbers are kinda crazy, but I agree we could use assault based equipment. Along with a fitting bonus similar to cloaks there should be separate assault tools that give timed buffs. Here's some ideas of equipment Built in nanohive that regenerates grenades and ammo while active. The nanites can be replenished by an actual nanohive once it runs out. Passive scan buff that rivals scouts. Perhaps it can share intel with the team like current passive scans after that feature is removed being that it's equipment. It shouldn't last too long. Damage and resistance buff that would be the go to slayer tool. Damage+resistance would cross the line and would be more heavy orientated. I wanted to give assaults compareable firepower like a heavy and the regen of scouts. Assaults do not lacking HP but they do suffer from lower regen. And the built in nanohive function is not really great as a assault specific tool. |

People forgot why every 1 runs heavy these days. Its because damage mods had beeing nerfed into the ground which made bricktanking the only real choice of play. Then you throw in armor stacked heavys and the balance has beeing screwed over. AR's are focused as anti shield and have a constant 10% penalty vs armor which means that a gallente or amarr sentinel just laughs at you, the same problem applys to lasers and scrambler rifles. Then you top it that the gallente heavy gets bonuses vs railgun and projectile weapons (rail rifle+combat rifle) which makes them aswell way too hard to kill.
We need those bonuses to overcome the heavy spam these days. In PC matches you either bring a heavy, scout or logi (priority in that order) or your value as player is equally 0. Assaults need to have a "kick @ss" button to be remotely effective. And i say it again: assaults=slayers |

Especially if you're using a militia rifle. You don't even have enough damage in the clip. Was gonna say it, you beat me to it. The HMG has enough DPS at 40m (and enough accuracy) to melt the tankiest of assaults before an AR can kill it. I like the idea of an assault only equipment, but as for what it should include.... I think this has a bit too much involved. Perhaps a simple RoF % increase to whatever weapon is equipped, possibly coupled with temporary damage resistances. Cooldown can be set as you proposed, it would just require adjusting the cloak module to do so and making it to where you can put it away and keep it active once turned on, then tweak the stats..... ...ok, this will likely require a client update.... Maybe not. The cloak was originally designed so you could shot while still beeing cloaked. So having your gun up while the equipment is active is possible. |
