community, I created this thread to be a sounding board for you to let ccp know what you think of dust as it is today.
please comment on the state of the game as you see it.
are you having fun?
do you like the way the mechanics are working, the balance between all gear i.e. suits, vehicles, infantry vs vehicles etc etc
are you spending money on dust?
do you find your fellow community members to be friends, idiots, trolls etc etc?
are you excited about the cpm votes? do you even care? trust them?
do you still or did you ever have faith in ccp?
are you confident in the future of legion?
these are all just example questions to get you started, please I urge you all to give your opinion on where you feel the game is at and what you think about it.
I will withhold my own opinion here as to not start an argument about my views or to sway opinions. |

Playing other game titles in majority now compared to DUST 514.
I can only take 1-3 games of DUST beforeIi shut off the playstation and go play something else.
Bullet registry and Aim assist make me just go play a shooter where aiming matters. and it's as simple as that.
I made a post earlier about TTK that pretty much sums up why I just turn DUST off after a couple games.. And Seriously why almost everyone I know just has enough and turns DUST off.
Bethhy wrote:TTK is fine.. works good for DUST's pubs.

Often in DUST the shots that land or kill you make little sense.
Often they can't land a shot then all of a sudden they can't miss.. Have impossible tracking at in your face close fights...can't hit the player in a toe to toe duel but somehow sprays down their full health as they jump over a railing to flee.
This echoes in almost every engagement.. players don't often move to maximize aiming ability because they just don't have to worry about it.
You live when you expect players to have the ability to aim and shoot and then you die frequently when there should be little chance of it.

I like this game, after returning from a year of not playing i had so much sp i could actually make my character a little formidable. I was sad to hear this might be dumped for legion. I really hope this company keeps trying to upgrade and improve this game. I think if they made sp more accessible to new players people would start liking it a lot faster and staying a lot longer. If this game is still up next year i bet a bunch of players who started this summer will come back and realize they can finally make their merc into something they enjoy with all the passive sp they have earned. |

Dust is great game and I really enjoy playing it, I've never put so much time and effort into another game as I have with dust, I have faith in CPM 1 and CCP that Dust will continue to get better with each hotfix and continue to be supported on the ps3.
I hope dust has a bright future and that new players will continue to be drawn in, but most importantly that they'll be encouraged to stay by way of the new player experience and match making improvements that fingers crossed will be coming to Dust in the near future. |

It's dead man. The competitiveness is not there. I play about two or three matches and I shut it off. Last few times I've played Domination, there's only one team doing something and some guy on the other team just sniping. There's really nothing there to motivate you to continue playing. CCP has yet to understand that and has squandered the time of players who were committed to this game.
CCP needs to go ahead and pull the plug. Oh wait, they will milk the cow until they have enough for Legion. GG.

I've been throught all Open Beta Builds; it took an erratic path, but progress has been made and this one is not bad at all!
are you spending money on dust?
I did and still do (to a lesser extent, though). It like buying your favorite brand of biscuit. It won't give you any assurance that those cookies will be available forever, but why not getting them while you still can?
do you find your fellow community members to be friends, idiots, trolls etc etc?
All choices above and many more. There a lot of great guys and gals out there.
are you excited about the cpm votes? do you even care? trust them?
Oh yeah, everyone should vote. Even Doomberries and Bittervets. I do trust them to various degrees.
do you still or did you ever have faith in ccp?
Yes. One of the main reasons I got into Dust in the first place was because they used to stand behind their products no matter what. That appealed me. Now, that faith got somewhat shaken since the last even months, but as long as I have a game to play...
are you confident in the future of legion?
Yes, it is promising. The shortest answer I can give is that CCP holds all the right cards in their hand to create a very solid product.
I really hope though that Dust keeps running for as long as possible. If the PC and FW bonds with EVE were to be strenghtened and if the gameplay balance hits the sweet spot, I believe we would get back quantities of old and new players.

do you like the way the mechanics are working, the balance between all gear i.e. suits, vehicles, infantry vs vehicles etc etc Nope, no balance between vehicles and infantry
are you spending money on dust? No
do you find your fellow community members to be friends, idiots, trolls etc etc? Idiots and trolls mostly on the forums/blue dots in game
are you excited about the cpm votes? do you even care? trust them? No, No, No
do you still or did you ever have faith in ccp? Did but not anymore unless its EVE
are you confident in the future of legion? No
Basically there is no fun anymore, my playstyle has been ruined again, rouge wedding killed what corp i had left after PC turned into a blue donut, lolcpm are a nonfactor and work for CCP while i have more experience in the game than 90% of cpm1 candidates
I may try legion out but if DUST is anything to go by then nothing will change except you need a pc to play it

Am i having fun? sometimes
mechanics? hell no i dont them
i used to spend money on the game, now i dont feel like its worth it, my faith in ccp is gone
my friends are a variety of people (or are they clones?)
i was running for cpm myself till fanfest, now i think it doesnt matter. being cpm will do what? work on legion probably.
i had lots of faith in ccp, even started playing EVE and bought the second decade. after fanfest my faith is gone, it is clear through the transferal of characters etc that dust will be shut down. in a game which had so much potential but needed constant attention i feel ccp have just thrown in the towel to cater for all the pc players.
no legion will fail as this game is still broken, i feel the transferal of characters, isk etc will create the same problems that caused many to quit this game.
it is my wish that ccp continues to work on this game, have more developers working on dust to make it better, create new content, new modes. maybe take a step back from legion (not completly but we need more people working on dust.) once this is done i feel my faith in ccp will be restored, AUR will be purchased in dust and EVE as before and maybe the odd pack here and there. oh and more bpos :)

Stand behind their products? Maybe with EVE, but I have my suspitions over the future of Dust and Legion, and rightly so. Hopefully I will be proved wrong, but we shall see.

are you having fun? occasionally, not much.
do you like the way the mechanics are working, the balance between all gear i.e. suits, vehicles, infantry vs vehicles etc etc CCP's ability to create game balance is nonexistent.
are you spending money on dust? Hell no.
do you find your fellow community members to be friends, idiots, trolls etc etc? What kind of question is this? Anywhere you have a large amount of people you also have idiots and trolls.
are you excited about the cpm votes? do you even care? trust them? No. There shouldn't be a CPM, CCP shouldn't need other people to sort through feedback for them, they should read the forum themselves.
do you still or did you ever have faith in ccp? I started playing Dust with a high opinion of CCP after the success they seem to have achieved with EVE, but after making wrong changes and decisions at every turn my opinion of them as a professional company has certainly declined.
are you confident in the future of legion? I won't be playing Legion.

1) I fluctuate between having fun and massive rage. There isn't much in between. The problem is, you can only stand so much rage, and it is often a very small amount. Between all the balance issues, mechanic issues, matchmaking issues, quality of games are all over the place.
2) Balance is horrid, as can be mechanics. I could deal with the mechanics (since everyone has to deal with them much like weather during a sporting event), IF matchmaking were better. That being said, some of the basic mechanics are clunky. I often think I am switching to a cloak when I get REs, or even when I try and get REs to blow one there is a hiccup instead of a nice smooth jump right to the mechanic where I can press the button. It is ridiculous that this ever got out of closed beta.
3) No money spent since FF.
4) I try and spend as much time communicating with forum friends, or at least reasonable forum users as much as possible. Unfortunately too many people try and force an agenda that only benefits them, and could care less about creating opportunities in game for as many people as possible in as many different roles as possible.
5) I did have faith in CCP prior to FF because I saw what they did with EVE. Now it seems like that was more of a fluke, and that they can't continue to manage their company they way they have been and be around long term. EVE has the luxury of not really having direct competition, but once it does, the competition only need be more competent and EVE will lose much of its market share. Dust already has competition, and the small number of players reflects the quality of it in relation to other games.
6) No. Same reasons as above (5).
This is how a minja feels

"are you having fun?" As always, if I wasn't, I wouldn't be here.
"do you like the way the mechanics are working, the balance between all gear i.e. suits, vehicles, infantry vs vehicles etc etc" It could be better, but it's not terrible
"are you spending money on dust?" No, I try to avoid spending money on games
"do you find your fellow community members to be friends, idiots, trolls etc etc?" The majority are idiots. Last year, I made a thread about how this is Dust's biggest problem
"are you excited about the cpm votes? do you even care? trust them?" I'm not excited, but I sortof care. I definitely don't trust almost all of the candidates.
"do you still or did you ever have faith in ccp?" Of course I do. I've seen plenty of terrible game studios, and CCP is NOT among them.
"are you confident in the future of legion?" Yes

Fun? I don't know if I would say I am having fun, more like addicted.
The mechanics are glitchy. I know I should have made it to cover but I getting hit. The radial dial is awkward and I end up with the wrong item most of the time. Get stuck in quicksand quite a bit. Still, we all have the same problems to deal with and its like your first car; the one that never ran without duct tape and bailing wire, you still love it.
CPM seems pointless. I don't know they have any real say or that they represent my views if they do. The last two Hotfixes seem to have been done by going straight to the community and they wrre by far the best changes I've seen.
People complain about the community but I do a lot of random squadding and I am surprised how nice most people are, not always my cup of tea, but that is on me.
I don't have much faith in Legion. CCP is in a tough spot right now and I think they are looking for a buyer. I play their game for free so I cit them slack, but the red wedding was one for the books. I buy active boosters since HF Alpha and they tempt me with the Nemesis pack.
Because, that's why.

Having fun, yes, because the fitting system gives me plenty of options for a change. Also because I know some people to play with and squad up. I have no understanding of game mechanics/balancing, but the game feels good to me at the moment. I have no other character than the one I created during closed beta, so no idea how the game feels for a newbie. The worst experience I had was during closed beta, half a year before the open beta, I think. Vehicles seemed OP at this time... wait...
Yes, I still spend money. For me it is like going to the cinema, except that when I buy an active booster for the weekend I know what I get from it. The movie might be very bad, but the extra SP earns me that new level faster. I might loose all this one day, but I do it for the short term experience. I do not see it as an investment.
I hardly know the community, I cannot get used to reading forums. Am glad that some people do Youtube videos and talk about what is going on. Like the people I squad up with, otherwise I wouldn't do it again after the first time. Have great respect for the people who take all the time to write up reviews, give strong feedback, organize corporations, do meta gaming (coz that makes up for some awesome drama and content in the sandbox). Some I guess do it coz they want a new job I bet, but why not. Kudos. CPM? Well, what I just wrote.
CCP owns the IP that caters to my interest in sci-fi, spaceships and a future vision. The have this fitting concept in a sci-fi setting I do not know of where else to find, so I am their customer. But they are a company that competes in our economic environment with all its benefits and drawbacks and I have no knowledge on how to direct a gaming corporation. So I just lean back, watch the action and see what comes out of it. I have faith in people with passion for what they do. If CCP has them, then I am glad for the IP and myself as their customer. But everthing ends sooner or later. - [note to self: slow down]
Hell, if they can realize in Legion the vision that they had for Dust, I will definitely play it. See my statement about the IP and my addiction to it above. |

some really good stuff here so far.
I have noticed many of you have checked this thread out but have not commented.
obviously if you don't wish to you don't have to, but I urge you all to add your voices.
I believe both the cpm and ccp will find great value in a consolidated thread of personal views, without the back and forth argument most threads get tied up in.
just the voice of the many to speak for itself.
I thank all who have participated so far and to come.

Oh yeah, everyone should vote. Even Doomberries and Bittervets. I do trust the Candidates to various degrees. What matters in the end anyway are the results.

Yes. One of the main reasons I got into Dust in the first place was because they used to stand behind their products no matter what. That appealed me. Now, that faith got somewhat shaken over the last months, but as long as I have a game to play...
are you confident in the future of legion?
Yes, it is promising. The shortest answer I can give is that CCP holds all the right cards in their hand to create a very solid product.
I really hope though that Dust keeps running for as long as possible. If the PC and FW bonds with EVE were to be strenghtened and if the gameplay balance hits the sweet spot, I believe we would get back quantities of old and new players.

Jesus, you wouldn't be running for office would you? Smacks of BS. Feel free to wade through any of my posts since I'm on these forums, this post has nothing to do with the CPM Election; it is my core essence.

You bet!
do you like the way the mechanics are working, the balance between all gear i.e. suits, vehicles, infantry vs vehicles etc etc
Even our idiots have some qualities!
are you excited about the cpm votes? do you even care? trust them?
Oh yeah, everyone should vote. Even Doomberries and Bittervets. I do trust the Candidates to various degrees. What matters in the end anyway are the results.
do you still or did you ever have faith in ccp?
Yes. One of the main reasons I got into Dust in the first place was because they used to stand behind their products no matter what. That appealed me. Now, that faith got somewhat shaken over the last months, but as long as I have a game to play...

"Core essence"??
No campaigning. No, of course not. Perish the thought.
Dominion over others is given not taken. Nothing has power over you but your own fear.
