One of the most compelling things that makes up the EVE Online characters personality is their personal in-game portaits and avatars. The EVE character creator has long been a great tool in managing to capture the immersive feeling and personality of ones character.
In some wierd way, I can like the current dust portraits to a degree (a very small degree), but in the end, they just don't make up for the personality of our characters that we've created. Especially since we can't even have light or heavy dropsuit portraits. And besides, what if a Minmatar soldier wants to show their support to the Empire and have an Amarr background?!
So, I humbly suggests that with Legion, there will follow a Legion Character Creator. Now, before any Dev or any other merc just stops reading here, let me just tell you (and even show you through a series of pictured examples) how easy and awesome this could be:
- First, since Legion is coming to PC, you Dev people start by copy-pasting the code that makes up the EVE Online Character Creator.
- Then, You choose your race - Caldari, for example
- After that, You choose the bloodline - Deteis, for example
- AND then! (this is where the fun starts) You customize your characters nose and muscles in what seems eternity, until you're satisfied his face is unique enough.
- THEN you choose a dropsuit/frame (Light, medium or heavy) that suits you the most.
- FINALLY, You decide to go for a Caldari Heavy Frame and hit the actual portrait selection, and choose an appropriate Caldari patroitic background.
Additional suggestions: Maybe have "Legionnaires"/Ex-Dusters in Legion to be obliged to have full dropsuits on them in order to fully accept the character creation and continue to the actual portrait capture screen (where you choose background, lighting etc.). Almost like it is manditory to have at least "bottom", "top" and "feet" layers for EVE characters in order to press Next.
Another idea is to be able to have alternatives on how do use the helmets (just like having differents setups on the Amarrian hoods for example - cover face, applied and not-applied). This could result in some people having an "open" helmet like this: http://i.imgur.com/AyIfcCR.jpg
In the end, maybe we could then enjoy our Legion characters, with a more personality, when fitting them up for battles. Just like this: http://i.imgur.com/hlvj4J8.jpg
Yes.
Edit: Helmet removals and similar stuff has been suggested before. I am not alone. Immersion + CCP = Love?
