VIDEO!!!
Adding this for the purpose of enriching the conversation and for people to understand how the mechanism is actually working in the assault dropship, specially the one designed to have this mounted on it

On a methana....
They're still terrible but if you get really close you can make the dispersion work for you. Actually if you get it point blank it kills really fast. If they tighten dispersion I think they have a good right for lessening RoF a tad.

It baffles me as to why anyone would ever consider using a blaster turret on anything besides a tank, especially a dropship.
And not because of its stats, but the nature of the weapon itself: close range anti-infantry.
On a dropship, you want to be as far away from the ground as needed so you stay a small target, can escape easily, and can maneuver without threat of crashing. The missile and rail are both superior for anti-infantry because of this as well as have anti-vehicle potential.
Sure the blaster could use a buff, but not for dropships. It just won't work.

This shows exactly what I mean. Even while flying close enough to have AV grenades tossed at you there is little chance of actually hitting anything with the small blaster as a pilot. Oh and boy does that thing eat through ammo fast!
It's been a while but I seem to remember the small blaster having a tiny splash radius or there being something different with hit detection a long while ago, maybe that could help pilots while keeping the small blaster same-ish for HAVs & LAVs?

Yeah you cant hit a broad side of a barn with those damn things. Back in the closed beta they had a very small splash damage aswell which helped alot but it got taken away for unknown reasons. Currently the only other small turret worth running are small rails with a gunner. Be it on a LAV or dropship. |

How does it undermine the python skill? Your missiles work on both infantry and vehicles while blasters are only good for infantry (they have a terrible damage application vs installations/vehicles, a full clip of 150 only takes out the shields on a turret installation) and, when mounted as the forward gun on a dropship, rail guns are only good for taking out installations/vehicles.
As for the blaster turret itself I would like to note two things: 1) The reticle size increase is a lie, the dispersion remains the same regardless of how long you fire. and 2) The real reticle size, I think, is about half the size of the unexpanded reticule before firing.
There is literally no other weapon that lies to you about how it fires. This is a case similar to the original HMG problem where the shot dispersion wasn't filling the reticule but in that case at least it fill 1/2 to 1/3, with the small blaster it is probably close 1/2 half the unexpanded reticule and 1/6 or worse of the expanded one.
What needs to be done: 1) The dispersion needs to fill the reticule 2) The reticule should expand slightly upon firing, not increase fourfold
Make those changes and see where it standings. |

****WHAT IF*****
ADS skill level bonus would widen the stream of small blaster plasma without dispersing shots? That way the blaster would be the same except for those willing to skill it up to hit infantry.
Would it be too OP vs vehicles for the increased damage? Maybe it's a bad idea.

With incubus 5 these things have the same RoF as HMG's... and more than twice the damage (38 on basic blasters vs 18 on HMG's)... and yet I've *never* seen an incubus tear in up with blasters like I've seen done with a HMG.
