NEW VIDEO!!!
Hello,
I have made a couple of threads about this topic concerning a game-breaking bug with the plasma cannon. Friends told me to get recent footage since the video I have of the bug is about 8 months old and I had already posted it and submitted a bug report to CCP those 8 months ago. So Here I am with a new video and a semi-in depth explanation of most of the variables involved and how they are not in any way responsible for the bug. People keep mentioning distance, damage oclussion etc but this video demonstrated beyond a doubt that there is something going on that needs to be fixed for this weapo to be used effectively. This bug is, in my opinion why people new to the weapon give up and people old to the weapon become frustrated with it since it tends to fail in the most important of times.

That's not the only bug this weapon has, unfortunately.
I tend to fire blank shots frequently, as well as having a delay in my shots (as in, it does the fire animation, but the projectile doesn't leave the barrel until a few moments later).
What kills me the most are the Phantom shots. I even have to reload blanks, sometimes. It's awful. |

Unfortunately this one is a bit rarer for me and I haven't been able to get footage for it. Everytime It happens I just am not getting footage. It frustrates me but sometimes It's a chore to just cycle footage. My target Is to junk that one down next

They should just increase the splash radius a bit...since It's a freaking CANNON that shoots GIANT BALLS OF PLASMA

Pyrex had a recent plasma cannon video that caught this one, though I can't remember the title. :/ Technically, the shot didn't really go "through" the target, he just managed to thread the needle between the guy's arm I believe.

I had a video I thought the glitch was in but saw that is actually went through the guys legs. It was so close to the crotch it seemed to have been a direct shot but when slowed down I could clearly see it go through the legs. I'm still hopeful though, finding that one is my next priority.
If anyone has any information on the circumstanced under which it happens it would be very useful.

Gallente scout if I'm not mistaken. I have heard rumors about caldari scout and hit detection but I haven't had the time to notice since they usually kill me so quickly.

I've had this happen as well.
Also there is an issue with scouts if the travel above a certain speed the plasma cannon round does no damage. Only shield Flare.

And i think it needs a nother buff against vehicles.
I found a sica that had a newbie in it or they guy just messed up and got his tank stuck in a ******** spot. I had a plasma cannon
I shot 5 shots at the Sica with basic shield amount and a 120m plate on it. so over 2k shield and 2k armor
Shield resist against explosives might have taken a little more effect but this match 2 soma's came up on me as well after popping the sica.
I put 5 shots into the soma but the dps was out repped by a single basic heavy armor rep....
This si the onkly flaw is that CCP says its an AV weapon but the DPS cant match up with a FG or a swarm launcher.

Plasma Cannon is good where it is. No buff's or variants are needed nor planned By CCP. It does need those bugs fixed though

Well In think if we look back at when the mass driver hit detection was bugged, we may be able to find some clues. Them both being splash based weaponry, I suspect they share a lot of the same code but, when the mass driver got looked at; CCP either forgot to take a pass on the Plasma Cannon or, since it was severely underused, CCP might have thought that lack of someone complaining about the bug meant there was none.Either way, I have two example and am pretty sure I can find more if CCP needs it.
I believe This bug appears in action just as a statistic increase in probability of it happening. Although there are more variables in live action situations, while testing I have yet to test different terrain types and angles as well as player movement speed in the different tests. All of these could be factors and the fact that CCP did find something wrong with the mass driver and fixed it means that they already have an idea of where the problem is.

Another annoying glitch I've noticed is that if you die while the Plasma shot is still flying through the air, the shot disappears and never reaches the target.
Like my ideas?

Another thing that is annoying is when the shot clearly lands next to the enemy and they take no damage even though the plasma cannon has a 3.5 blast radius.

the plasma cannon is a Anti vehicular weapon not anti personnel that's why your whining about it. its like trying to use mass driver to take out vehicles or swarms to take out infantry

I may have some footage of plasma cannon bugs. I've definitly experienced all the bugs listed above, but I usually only record when I'm working on a tutorial video. I'll search through my footage and see what I can find.
Also, I'd like to get your opinion on a projectile speed buff for the plasma cannon. Personally, I don't think it will change it's effectiveness against infantry targets much because of it's other limiting factors, but I think it would improve it's Anti-Vehicle role. With the projectile speed as it is right now, hitting vehicles a second or third time is insanely difficult because of how easy it is to straff a shot from the plasma cannon. Heck, an HAV in reverse can travel faster than a plasma cannon round (I think I have this one in footage). And forget about using it effectively against dropships.
