IGÇÖm Argetlam Thorson (otherwise known as Chris Bates) and IGÇÖd like to formally announce my candidacy for CPM1.
Why am I qualified? I started in closed beta, and while I didnGÇÖt enjoy the game at first, I came back a few months later and really started having fun. I have been an active player for almost a year now and have been PC active for seven or eight months, so I have a good grasp of how the mechanics work in both pubs and PC. I have at the very least tried out nearly every facet of gameplay, and play each of the four infantry classes currently. IGÇÖve also been playing Eve a few months, so I have some general knowledge of what goes on in the sky. I have the time to dedicate to being CPM, to do my best to help the game become the best game it can.
Why I want to run: What is most important to me is that I want to be a part of helping to improve Dust. I really enjoy the game and I have invested a lot of time into it. I want to see it become better with every update so we retain old players and gain new ones.
What is my platform? I want to promote the sandbox experience that is Dust 514. I want players to have the freedom to do what they want, whether they are making a fitting thatGÇÖs just dumb or one thatGÇÖs a stroke of genius. This is one thing that makes Dust unique. This is something we need to promote. You should be able to make a heavy with a rail rifle or a brick tanked scout, it should just come with significant drawbacks that force you to decide if you think you can still do well with it. I also want to push for more content related to Eve Online. This is the other big thing that separates Dust from other FPSGÇÖs and I want to see it expanded. Players should have more reason and ability to work together to accomplish goals. I donGÇÖt know how exactly this can be done anytime soon, but I think this should be something we should put more energy into discussing.
I want to push for a better New Player Experience in game. The internet has many new player tutorials, but I want more in game. It goes without saying that a better NPE means more blueberries sticking to boost our stats, until they start giving us good solid battles, which is the eventual goal. We need more good players in the game so we have more good fights, because a battle where one team is redlined is much less fun than a close game. This starts with retaining more players, which means a better NPE.
If you have any questions or comments, you can contact me (info below) or let me know on this thread.
Thank you for reading and I hope I can count on your vote for CPM,
Argetlam Thorson

I have a question. It is something I think is important for a CPM member, but I am not sure how many others agree with me. so this is just a personal question from me to you.
Are you familiar with acceptance criteria, stake holders, risk management or steering committees? I am not saying in those exact terms but the concepts behind them? In other words do you think you will be able to change your level of interaction with the games developers from that of customer to one of collaborator?

I'll be honest, I am not very familiar with those topics. I have also only worked with small group projects (<15 people) up till now, so this would be a bit of a change for me. I run for CPM knowing that there are things that I will need to learn, but I am ready to start picking things up Day 1 or even before. In short answer, yes, I think I will be able to do so. |

Hello; CCP Logibro is more than willing to help out on this case as the official CPM handler. The only real qualifications you really need is being understanding and mature. Also there is a point to having 7 members in the council; while one player's vision may be short sighted others are able to think just as much as that one council member allowing scenarios to play out. If they're truly player advocates they'll be able to guess by gut feeling alone the player reaction.

Thanks. That's the important part of my question answered.

Hi!
I read your OP and thought it was quite an interesting read, I have questions if i may!?
This bit was itneresting to me:

What do you feel given the resources and limitations on Dust 514 right now, could be done by CCP in the next 1 or 2 hotfixes to make Dust514 more sandboxy?
Looking forward to hear your replies!

I do not know exactly what can and what cannot be done in the hotfixes. I'll lay out a few of the ideas that I think could be done via hotfix, but theoretically would be doable with minimal work either way.
--Version of the MD that shoots Flux rounds --Placeholder Amarr/Gal heavy weapons using existing models. Even if it's not pretty, I want an anti-shield heavy weapon. --Orbital Bombardments damage MCC (If you feel that doing x damage to MCC would more beneficial than hitting enemy clones, you should be able to do so. Damage amount to be determined) --Adv/Pro Tanks done just adding slots to current STD models --Racial vehicle parity with reskinned Cal/Gal vehicles with adjusted stats/slots (It may be a placeholder, but its better than nothing) --Heavy/medium/light shield extenders/armor plates modules, aiming for buffer tanking, similar to Eve. I can go into more detail if anybody would like more of an explanation. --I'd also like some sort of training battle system (outside of PC). I know corp battles existed at one point, but I don't know much about them. I don't know if they could modify PC mechanics to put this in, but I'd like it to be easier/a little bit cheaper to arrange practice matches for PC or just an open field to enjoy. Theoretically, renting a field for an hour instead of having to be in a PC corp/wasting clones/locking a district up would be nice. It could be together with other corps or not.
Like I said, I'm not exactly sure what can be done with only hotfixes, but these were some of the ideas that I've either had myself or told by others during discussions.
