The ion is actually decent with sharpshooter 5 and gal.assault 5, leaping from 46.65 accuracy to 72.89, though the sharpshooter should probably be removed and folded into base stats with a small range increase.
The gun itself once you get beyond its goofy stats is actually pretty decent - 12 decently damaging shots, or the option to charge for a pocket shotgun blast.

Read the skill : "Gallente Assault Bonus: 5% reduction to hybrid - blaster light/sidearm hip-fire dispersion and kick per level"
Notice that sidearm word there? It's usually a pretty good indicator that it applies to sidearms.

Have you ever actually used an ion pistol and Galassault combo? I would hope you realise how terrible the charge shot is, even once you can start hitting with it. Also, 12 50 damage shots is not sufficient to take out any remotely serious targets. Hell, a lot of scouts can tank entire direct hit clips now.
Actually, yes, I have been using the galassault + ion pistol and quite enjoying it. I'm not saying it's perfect or the best weapon ever, but it is underrated - perhaps it would see more use if the sharpshooter skill was removed and weapon accuracy increased by 25% inherently, you'd probably see a lot more people packing it around then.

It has terrible DPS, low damage per clip, poor accuracy, **** poor range and to top it all off it's extremely buggy. I'm sorry but this pistol isn't worth using over literally anything else. Except for arguably the flaylock.
Lets complain about **** that was already addressed by the person talking about it!
It needs tweaking, but it isn't *terrible* under the right circumstances.
