I've looked at the stats but because SP is so precious I would appreciate any advice on what you think the best Commando suit is. Many many big thank you's and stuff etc....

Hi and thanks - was the advantage was the extra speed? Does it make any difference if you choose the suit that fits your race or is that just blah? Sorry for all the questions... but I was definitely leaning towards Minmatar so your's is a helpful response

I think a lot depends on what weapons you want to run on the suit since the damage bonus applies to different weapons based on the racial variant. I wanted a SL based AV fit, so the min commando was the best choice for me. The less HP and not much more speed is a little annoying (particularly with such low PG and less low slots), but SL+CR is a great combo and I also have an AoD fit MD+CR that I use sometimes. |

They were going to nerf the speed but last I read they retracted that change.

depends on the weapons you like and/or are proficient with..
all of the commando suits are crummy stat wise, it's the dual light weapon slots and the bonuses that make the suit. |

Yeah speed didn't get nerfed as far as I know... That being said an Amarr commando with a LR/ScR can really mess mercs up LR for that long range damage and ScR for that lovely charge shot kill on scouts

All of the commandos are viable, honestly.
I'd personally prefer the Minmando, but it doesn't outperform the others by that much.

I love the Gallente commando, shotgun/AR combo is awesome in building complexes. I love to take cover behind an object and lure someone over with my AR then retreat so my opponent things me wounded or reloading. So they come charging around the corner only to be wasted by the shotgun. It's also a rather rare combo (I have only ran into one other such user in 2 months) so few people expect it. The plasma cannon is meh (good damage but terrible to hit with short of point blank range) so it often needs paired with other AV to be effective. You can pair the regular AR with the AR variants but I have found them still lacking a bit. I don't feel like the burst AR has as quick a fire interval as the CR, the breach AR has the same damage as the RR but lacks it's range so it still under performs, and the Tac AR still feels like it has too much kick to really shine for the range it has. |

People may call me bias, but I have all 4 proto commandos with their respective proto weapons and must say Amarr is by far the best. There is not a single weapon combo that compliments range and efficiency as well as the laser rifle coupled with the assault scrambler rifle, which you'd get a bonus towards both. Things at long range die and things up close die, doesn't even matter if they are shield tanking or armor tanking.
I would not recommend it with the normal charge shot variant scrambler rifle because it can not dish out enough damage to kill a lot of suits without overheating, and even if you stop right before overheating the laser rifle is not so great in the ranges you'd be using the scrambler rifle. Additionally, I have had some fun in my proto Gal commando with PLC/AR but the PLC is too skill based to be reliable on infantry, also tried proto Gal commando with AR/SG but the shotgun becomes redundant when you realize your suit has the highest melee of all other suits. If you're looking for a good commando and don't want Amarr I'd suggest you go Minmatar because it can make that mass driver really painful and the CR is still the best rifle in the game.

GalCommando is winning it for me, I use STD Gal Commando with ADV Plasma Rifle -- Breach and Tactical for my weapon slots.
Plus, you get the bonus for light weapon damage which never hurts!
Militia Kin Cat, Militia Stamina Booster (Just because I havent researched biotic upgrades)
I dont die so often, at any rate.

Run the Calmando. Main fit is the RR and SL. It's great for ranged fighting. The suits RR damage bonus to go along proficiency 5 is what I love most about it.
In CQC, it can be a little squishy, probably my lack of skill. Been playing around with the shotgun to cut down on engagement time and to give the ahole scouts a taste of their own medicine when I see them in time.

Putting shotguns on a heavy is stupid. Plasma cannon/AR is the badass combo.

@OP: Not even having a single point in Commandos, the coolest one to me seems like the Caldari. It's a terrifying sniper and doesn't really need to use a dampener with its shield regen abilities and an Assault RR for when it's being hunted down for having a Thale's.

Trust me, I don't know what battles you're in, but I see them a lot.
Have you even tried them since the buff? Tac is slightly better and I haven't tried the Breach yet but it was supposed to have been buffed.

Wrong. Minmatar Scout does. The Shotgun will bloody do way more than melee at point blank range, even more than a Minja can do. And even on it, knives do well over twice the damage. |

And even if you are to begin stacking all the highs with complex blues, the Minmatar scout still doesn't have the highest melee. A fully melee stacked Minmatar scout will hit at 495 melee, which is pretty close to an Amarr or Gallente commando that can hit for 420 melee but not even remotely close to a fully stacked Caldari commando which can hit for a whopping 990 melee.

They're all highly enjoyable, but somewhat underpowered if running solo due to HP-to-hitbox-size+speed ratio. I have all four on different characters. Min and Gal (Breach AR + PlC is tons of fun) are my favorites for CQC and city work, Amarr and Cal for ranged squad support.

I don't always commando, but when I do I prefer the minmatar with a splash of mass driver and shotgun.
It's literally unstoppable in CQC or anywhere with cover.
Gallente would be my second favorite.

Wow, people are actually saying the commando suit stole the assault role?!? I think brick tanked scouts stole the assault role. Why run an assault when you can be invisible or all seeing, super fast, have two equipment slots, a smaller hitbox and only have to sacrifice at most 200 HP? I don't run assault or scouts, but it seems obvious from the outside. I love my minmando suit, but the big hit box, pretty slow speed, low number of slots, and no grenades make it even more of a niche suit than my min logi suit. I'm not complaining about the minmando suit being a niche suit: I think it's generally a good thing. (maybe in need of some tweaking but low priority since its not in a bad spot)
I imagine I will get trolled for saying it, but scout suits should have less H/L slots and more built in ewar capabilties (including built in cloak). It's supposed to be a niche suit, so it should have less versatility. The medium suits should be the versatile suits with high H/L slot count. The logi suits are in a good place that way (niche only in that they sacrifice weapons for equipment), but I am not surprised so few people run assaults suits these days.
Scout suits should also have more negatives to counter all those positives. you are super fast, hard to hit, and good at eWar. Sorry, you can't also have HP close to an assault suit.
