Downloaded the Dust beta. Played a few times, got stomped. Quit for a week.
Tried again. Played more, biomassed my first 4 toons, quit maybe twice more.
With a few weeks left in beta I created my then-main, a dedicated sniper (got me killed less). Got pretty good at it, was recruited into my first corporation, Royal Assassins Guild.
Got bored being a sniper. Made John Demonsbane - blanked out for a while and the name kinda popped in my head, wasnGÇÖt in love with it but was in a hurry and assumed IGÇÖd probably biomass him like I did every other character. Played for a couple weeks, made smarter SP decisions, bought BPOGÇÖs, so didnGÇÖt end up doing it.
I played a pretty generic assault role for a while, until we got beat bad one night by subsonic synthesis, who made very good use of uplinks (believe it or not, back then you might only see 3 of 4 uplinks on the entire map). Afterwards, one of my directors said GÇ£Somebody needs to start carrying some god damn uplinks around here!GÇ¥ and my career in tactical logistics was born.
IGÇÖm still playing logistics with most the same people (under a new name) to this day: Eventually we got dissatisfied with that corp, as the CEO was an EvE player who didnGÇÖt give a crap about Dust. We all got together in a private chat one night, talked it over, and all 20 of us left simultaneously in the middle of the night. Ironically, that same day we finally hit #100 on the corp leaderboard (no thanks to me, I have about 1.5 mil career WP but only 6000 kills!)
We joined a different corp that night to see if we could protect our few EvE pilots. It was only partly successful. A week later we decided we liked doing things our way, and formed Unorganized Ninja Infantry Tactics (UNIT). Eventually, after both Hellstorm and ANONYMOUS tried to get us to merge with them, we joined LoI just before a lot of the big players left to join EoN. The blue donut kept us out of PC as a corporation, though many of us would ring for the alliance.
As for me, despite being a 35 mil SP dedicated Amarr logi, IGÇÖve yet to play a single PC battle. My RL work schedule does not cooperate with the district timers. Instead, my competitive outlet has been fighting for God and Empire in Amarr FW, as one of the dedicated crusaders True Adamance wrote so eloquently about in his bio.
Become forum warrior, just as addictive as the game. Write a few guides on the rookie forums (tactical logistics/uplinks and laz0r rifle), get nominated to Dust wall of fame for it, lose to the obvious choice, Fox Gaden.
As for today: After fanfest I went from addictively playing almost every night (if only for an hour or 2) to full on bittervet mode and not playing at all for weeks at a time. Deleted my guides. Eventually came back part time to burn my assets and see where Rattati takes this.
There are only 3 things keeping me playing: My corpmates, my fellow Templar, and of course, the laz0r rifle. I rarely logi when running solo anymore, I usually drop into Dom or Ambush and melt all the heathens I can find with my LR Amarr assault. That weapon is just crazy fun to use. If I ever get bored of it, I will likely quit Dust forever.
(The godfather of tactical logistics)
Quitting cold turkey was impossible. The forum patch is helping me kick the habit
