My ps3 pad broke recently so I have to use a m/kb now. The hit detection while using it is off when compared to a pad with aim assist on. I usually play with aim assist on for the controller, but only because my shots will miss more even on a stationary target with it off. The only time I turn it off is to train my aim for a bit, or give myself a challenge.
So what I want to know is how the aim assist is actually working under the hood. I know there's magnetism and friction, but I want to know if there's anything causing homing bullets for dust's aim assist mode.
Ghazbaran made a pretty good video demonstrating this while ago where you can see the bullet doing damage even when it's clearly off.
If the homing bullet mechanic exists it should either be removed or added for the other control schemes (m/kb, move, and aim assist off). With it removed I think accuracy rating of guns would play a more important roll and would make strafing while shooting less appealing. With it added to the other control options you could "improve" hit detection, but it could be a turn off for the playerbase. |

I think the homing people think is going on is that your bullets are hitting in lag conditions. |

I want this mechanic debunked and then iterated on. If the homing mechanic existed it's probably why it's been so hard to balance weapons in the past. In a shooter, weapons are balance based on range, damage, and accuracy. Dust tries to do this too with the accuracy ratings, but if a homing bullet mechanic does exist then the most damage weapon always wins. I don't mean winning 1v1 against other guns, but most guns are just as easy to use while doing more damage.
I don't want to just write it off as lag. If someone can make a video showing aim assist on and off test this further that'd be great. |

Yeah sometimes, although I'm usually completely turn around running from a heavy so I'm not sure if I'm being shot around a corner. |
