Greetings, CCP Rattati.
You are new since I posted on these forums last so I wanted to perhaps appeal to you and perhaps get blessed with a response to a question that plagues me.
I am pleased with the new Ambush mode, although would like to be able to select between OMS and regular Ambush (tanks, cheap dropship tactics, things that don't belong in Ambush mode, etc)
However....in the new Ambush mode, I am seeing a trend. Some of the players on the opposite team will be standing or running and as soon as you start to shoot them, they jitter / dance like MC Hammer in his parachute pants (can't touch this?)
What causes this? You can't shoot them when they do that. I've considered it as some kind of keyboard and mouse tactic, but I've grabbed a proto suit, all the speed mods and everything else and tried it with both the controller and the keyboard/mouse setup. There is no way the character can move that fast.
But I see it on the screen when against other players. Is it a lag thing? A graphical glitch? The way it seems like is I'll run up on someone with 140 shield and 420 armor and blast them to death with a Duvolle Assault Rifle, and I hit them barely enough to get their shield down because they dance like MC Hammer. However, they can kill me with 270 shield, 972 armor in 3 seconds with a rail rifle.
My internet is Xfinity 50mbps and it works pretty good...can stream HD video all day without any trouble....so what am I seeing? Why is it doing this? Is there anything I can do on my end to fix it?
Thanks in advance, CCP Rattati |

Strafe need serious nerf. Detailed discussion here.

Is that what it is? People strafing?
That's why I was hoping to attract the DEV response to this question so I would know 100% what it is and if it was fixable on my end, I would take necessary steps to correct it. |

I'd be curious to know if you're seeing a trend in the suits that do this. Perhaps a video recording would help in procuring an answer. If not, I'd be inclined to say it's just people strafing. I've had scouts do this before (in front of an HMG, mind you) and it's almost impossible to hit them. I've actually out strafed heavies (ya know, the ones with 1500+ HP) in my Minmatar heavy (less than 1000, no armor or shield mods) and won gunfights doing so. Of course, it might just be lag, though it's most likely the strafing. People have been Neo'ing it up in this game for ages, and some of them are really, really good at it.

Based on your description I would say this is likely a case of bad lag.
What is your ping time to the server you are playing on? Is your PS3 hardwired or wireless? How old is your PS3?
Aside from lag caused by the server and connection there are other issues that could be affecting you.
You could be experiencing packet loss due to a bad router or an over loaded router, there could be too many hops between you and the battle server, or the networking card in your PS3 could be wearing out.

Ping time: 93ms
PS3: Wirelessly connected
How old is PS3? 2 years old maybe? Its the slim model
My house is 672 square feet, very small and normally the only two devices that are connected are my PS3 to Dust 514 and my laptop to EVE Online
So....what do ya think? |

We used to call this KB/M "Super Strafing" but the KB/M guys swear up-and-down that they can't strafe any faster than a DS3 user. So, I'm not sure what causes this phenomena, but I've seen it many times and I sure as heck can't do it myself. I'm on a .75GB up/down fiber optic connection (promise its not me who's lagging when I see this horse sh!t).
It could be cured once-and-for-all through adjustment to strafe acceleration.

I don't think its that they can strafe faster... it's that they maintain better control over their aim while strafing...
you know how you can tell when its a KB/M user strafing? look at the position of their gun and where the discharge from the weapon is going...
KB/M users weapons are always pointing down regaurdless of where the discharge is going.... |

The only thing KBM users have over you is the WASD keys, it is effectively only 8 different directions that they can move in instead of the natural analog movement that the DS3 can do...
It also means though that to change directions instead of wasting time moving the stick from one direction to the next and for the briefest of moments suffering the slowdown from passing through the 0,0 position, they can simply tap the next key and immediately change directions with no slowdown, thus making strafing more effective.
As for the "Jitter" that can come from you playing in a server that you are not supposed to talk to. Where I live I have at most 80 ping talking to other US servers, but in Europe that can each even 200 which obviously causes problems.
Go to options, and select it to only select your region's servers in the DUST 514 settings.

Might be the way the game interprets the data from a mouse. Might also be that they always aim a little lower. I was trained on KBM with the original Ghost Recon so body shots were a must and not so much headshots. It's also taking in a different data entirely than a joystick on a controller. Could be a lot of things. Plus your wireless connection might be your lag problem. Sony gave them terrible wireless for some reason, but blessed the system with GB LAN.

IT's been terrible before I just lost interest playing right when the Alpha hotfix has been occurring and in other FPS shooting games, while it is an easy cop out to blame Sony, these are essentially the same server hardware that had supported games boasting a greater number of players x 9 in a match. But typically when one person does create an intentional lag switch it does effect the overall game data being transferred to the servers and, if its enough data that gets sent back improperly or enough people, everyone in the match feels certain lag effects. It's a pretty rate thing overall but with fewer players online versus 2 months ago and most of the attention on "hot fixes", then don't expect it to be addressed anytime soon if ever. |

If people want noting but infantry versus infantry, why not go and play a game that offers that in a much better package?
Just as baffling as people who buy Battlefield to only play TDM.
You're doing it wrong.

Its because no company can seem to make a proper game. Think of all the ways in Dust 514 (or any FPS) people are cheap or (possibly) cheat.
Modded Controllers - Aimbot + rapid fire + jitter control = You pwned Lag Switch - Impossible on Dust 514 (dedicated servers) but prevalent on Call of Duty.
And think of ALL the cheap mechanics people in Dust 514 use.
Dropships to get on the highest peak and drop the entire team and then they all stand up there with laser rifles and melt everyone else. There is zero sportsmanship in that. People fly around in dropships and just bomb the hell out of everyone like they caught them with their hands in the kibbles and bits cookie jar.
Redline sniping with a tank, redline sniping with a sniper rifle, tanks STILL rolling in Ambush OMS (when they don't need to be)
People like infantry vs infantry in the NEW EDEN setting. You know how I know this? I make isk by playing in the battle academy against all the other players who play in the battle academy. Its pretty fun because 9/10 its standard gear vs standard gear.
You don't have to worry about proto stomping douchenozzles or run your expensive gear yourself (Gal Logi gk.0 w00t) or do anything except have fun.
CCP is long overdue for tier play. A casual gamer like myself doesn't want crazy competitive japanese guys who sit and do nothing but Dust it up all day or 10 year olds who are jakked up on a case of red bull pwning you with their cloaked heavy wielding dual shotguns.
Standard Gear vs Standard Gear is the most fun you can have in Dust 514. So I play the battle academy and kick some ass and get my ass kicked....but its all militia gear and its fun.
Plus you can make lots of isk to send to your primary account and stock your proto suit to 10,000 spawns :D |
