I will say that the pvp element, Control mode, of Destiny is definitely different from Dusts and more simplistic and less tactical in part because of the smaller map, Rust Lands, and fewer players.
However, I think that may in part be resolved, if they were holding back on the com system because this was an alpha. With proximity chat or preferably you are automatically tied into a 6 squad chat system would make the pvp more tactical and interesting.
I would say playing pvp I witnessed and perpetrated a lot of noobish behaviour by rushing from one point to another but being generous I would say it was because it was an alpha and people were simply trying out new ways of doing things and not choosing the most efficient or effective tactic.
Just to start the OP discussion I will say that the Shotgun was pretty much abused by players, including me, in pvp and my concern is what happens when the level cap is removed and you have high level players with maxed legendary gear fighting against the lesser mortals. Our prototype gear and militia wouldn't even compare to the difference you will see in Destiny without decent matchmaking.
I would also go onto to say that on the positive side getting in battle on Destiny was a lot quicker than in Dust and the fact that I think in Destiny there was approxt 6-7 pvp modes that were greyed out, can not remember the exact number. Perhaps more of these modes will be available in the Beta and will change my opinion on pvp.
My biggest disappointment with Destiny Alpha was the comms system. But again this was an alpha and I hope they simply restricted it and this is not how it will appear in the final release.
While Destiny is definitely not comparable to Dust, and I did really enjoy my time in Dust, in one important way it does compete/compare and that is the fact that I spent 19hrs 35 mins (according to Bungie alpha website stats) playing the Destiny Alpha and all I did in Dust was log in for the bonus sp.
What Destiny will do very effectively is take up a large chunk of my time playing computer games when the Beta is released and when the final product is launched.
For an Alpha Destiny was seriously good fun and more than I expected would be in the Alpha.
