It'll cost me 650K SP, I've had it to level 4 (which cost 310K) since I started playing this game 9 months ago.
I'm leaning toward no, it's not worth it...
Because first of all it's not going to be used in PC. Second I don't even have a scout or assault to use it on, and I really hate getting attacked and not having a sidearm. Third I'll have to spend another week's worth of SP on getting my dampeners to advanced, so I can get some use out of my low slots.
I've got 15 Horizon Kaalakiotas still and they work just fine for Pubs. I'd rather just spend that SP on getting my Rep Tool proto, then begin the arduous task of skilling into the Caldari Sentinel and all his shield skills.
My thoughts on Hotfix Alpha: First I noticed a scout running from my AR. Then a heavy. Then a COMBAT RIFLE USER. CCP +1

IMO just try sniping with an advanced rail rifle and an advanced basic suit. If you like it (i love headshotting tower campers) skill un for the thale and a better suit. |

and while we're on the topic, the Wolfman's ScP didn't impress me that much.
i got a few kills with it in an ambush then died to roadkill...
I guess the clip size and having a little better (not by much) DPS than a Carthum Assault with a lower RoF is pretty cool

1- I presume you are using a gallente logistic suit and you says you don't have an assault or scout suit to use a sniper rifle.
2- if you have a logistic suit you also have access to "basic" medium suits (market -> medium suits, you'll see assaults, logistics and basics)
3- "basic" suits have the same slot layout as assault suits, so you can use the advanced one (gallente A-1 suit i think it's called) to have a sniper rifle, 2 damage mods, a sidearm and some armor mods.
4-No need to skill an assault/scout suit to try sniping.
5-try sniping
6-If you like sniping train for the thale (you can always use charged sniper rifles if you run out of thales/don't want to lose more thales)
7- You can skill for an assault/scout suit/caldari commando later.
Basically my answer to your question is yes, is worth skilling fo the thale if you like sniping because you don't really need a new suit to snipe and the skills you need fo the thale can be used for other sniper rifles. |

oh, that's actually a really good idea
although I'd rather drive around in a LAV and use my Amarr heavy suit with the Thale's
but I actually might do that with my Horizons. thanks for the idea +1

If you are ready to cower all the way back to the very edge of your redline, then one Thale's could potentially last you the rest of your playing career.
However, there are a few things that you need to watch out for.
1. Enemy dropships. I've lost a few Thales this way. It wasn't that I was oblivious to the dropships. It's just that I wasn't fast enough to avoid the squad that jumped down to mow me down. If you can fit a cloak, put one on.
2. Mid map Thale's snipers. Believe it or not, some players are ballsy enough to run out of their redlines to Thale's countersnipe you. If not a Thale's, watch out for the damage modded Kaalakiota sniper. Three headshots in quick succession is all it takes to put you down.
3. Orbitals. Although flattering, you're pretty much dead. Try to relocate often, but make sure you are still in an advantageous spot.
Other than that, you're good to go. Just be sure to brick tank your character and bring along some rep hives. Lol... Oh, and MCC snipe if you're up for it. I don't recommend doing it, but some players do have some success up there. Now go. Go and be a redline Thale's scrub. |

If you like heavies more than mediums/light you could try the caldari commando, it haves bonus damage to rail weapons (2% each level) and reload speed. |

I've lost about 5 Thale's in my DUST lifetime.
Of those, only one was lost when I was doing serious sniping.
I lost two from trying to snipe off the back of a dropship (which was hilarious) and two from going CQC sniping with it on a dragonfly.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

How often do you snipe? If your answer is "uuhhhh", then don't do it. Keep in mind: it's for all sniper rifles, not just Thales. |

I've lost countless thales in my lifetime. From blueberries calling in an lav which gets orbitalled, suicide derpships that are full of heavies that my toxin simply can not kill more than 2, counter snipers who come to MY red line to snipe me, mcc missiles and that one time I was trolling my squad mate and kept killing him in fw and then got kicked after I sniped him. Even though in the end 1 head shotting mostly all med frames and 2 head shotting heavies is totally worth it, you just have to listen for the sound of a drop ship , check the mountains for counter snipers and put your nano hives behind cover
