Or remove Fac loyalty point asset ISK costs = much better option.

Agreed. If you can make it nearly self-sustaining (at higher standings) if you use all factional gear, problem solved. If you use another races weapons (which, yes, I grudgingly do) then you'll need to grind some pubs.
If it is possible to make FW self sustaining in terms of LP gear sales for ISK then sure, LP should never solely be able to sustain a character or it loses its value.

Not completely self sustaining, and certainly not at low standings. Personally, if you are at level 10, I think you should be able to cover at least 80% of your losses with just the LP rewards (plus salvage I guess)... Assuming you'd have to be a pretty good player to get there and wouldn't be losing a ton of suits. I completely agree that selling your LP assets for ISK would be the best way to do this, but that unfortunately doesn't appear to be an option.
I disagree. LP Gear should be difficult to get even with high standing, and should posses desirable but highly specific bonuses, slot layouts, and base statistics that prime them for one specific role but leave then hanging in others. This means that there will be a very small and highly profitable market for LP gear items, making in many cases selling them better than keeping them.
E.G- The Imperial Navy Slicer is a small, low HP, but insanely fast (I get up to about 5km per second on mine overheated) High DPS kiting ship.
The Imperial Specialist Amarr Assault could receive altered frame and specialisation bonuses of 3% per level increase to Laser Weapon energy projection range and a 1-2% per level Energy weapons damage increase (or if Amarr Assault end up switching their bonus with Commando 7%)
The idea being to create a suit people would pay through the nose for but sparsely use for fear of loss.
However the way the Warzone works in EVE is governed by one cardinal rule.
"Bring the cheapest variant of the thing that does the job"
Frigates, the smallest shisp, and Destroyers, high DPS small ships, are prevalent.....everywhere..... you don't need much bigger for any real reason... most of the LP ships I exchange for are sold off to fund more Frigates....... and its more profitable to do this than fly a T2 ship any day.
Personally I would like to see LP are a low yield thing that encourages players to stick to their chosen faction for increased pay outs and higher quantities of valuable loot. Enforce signed Militia requiring players to declare for one Faction and lose standing with their enemies limiting who they can fight for.

However, we are unfortunately stuck with the game we have, not the one we want. In it's current state I'd personally like to have a little more return on my investment, and market value changes seem like the small type of thing Rattati is specializing in right now.
People like you or I obviously don't need extra incentive to fight for the Empire, but some do, and it would be nice to be able to change the balance of FW/pubs needed to be profitable.
The last thing FW in this game needs is incentive for those farming douche bags in Pub matches to switch game modes. You don't want to give them ISK and LP..... it would be horrid.
