I hope to persuade CCP as to the dire need to change that during my tenure on the CPM, so that future corps can flourish.
In addition to this goal, my role as an instructor of new players as alerted me to serious shortcomings as to the quality of the New Player Experience in Dust 514.
I've already presented in the past to CCP, proof of concepts for an improved NPE, some of which did make the game in later patches, either directly or indirectly because of my work but I do know that CPM0 were shown my work at some point.
I've also developed something of a reputation as a consistent botherer of Dev's via social media and at Fanfest. A lack of communication, sometimes understandable but nevertheless can create longer lasting problems such as player indifference if not handled better.
These are just some of the concerns I share with the community and hopefully, with your help I can be in a position to express them directly to CCP on your behalf.
Hello!
Thanks for the OP - was a great read and certainly can see you are keen to demonstrate your value to this process, just wanted to say thanks for the work you have done so far with CCP, its certainly something to be proud of, hence its featuring in your candidacy post.
I would like to ask a couple of questions based on your OP and some of the content within.
Firstly i was fascinated to read about your views concerning the NPE - this is something that i can only imagine is central to Dust Uni given the role you guys play in teaching and motivating players to be part of the EVE IP - my question would be how important do you feel the NPE is to Dust 514 now?
Given that the CPM role is to focus on Dust 514 - how do you see yourself adding value to the CPM on this topic? Should CCP be continuing to market and grow Dust 514? would you say that there is much CCP can do now to the Dust 514 client to enhance the NPE experience?
My second question is more based around your comment on being a 'consistent bother-er of Devs via social media' this is something that i think will interest many in the voting process as its fairly obvious that the main issues of CPM0 was the lack of 'edge' in pushing CCP to engage with the office, firstly do you feel that you have actually 'pressured' CCP into action via your previous actions and if so, what were the outcomes of this process?
Secondly i would like to get your opinion on what qualities you feel you have in terms of being 'the bad guy'? You strike many as being a really nice guy and your proven ability to engage and also inspire feedback from CCP shows you to be a very personable guy but my fear is that this was the primary issue of CPM0 - lots of nice pleasant people who didnt want to 'risk' their seat at the table by being insistent and forceful to CCP that they were not giving the office its due attention.
What would be your reply to the above statement?

Hi
Thanks for the two replies, very interesting reads indeed.
I think that perhaps we are in disagreement over the NPE given that this game has never successfully grown past its initial release and given that the development team themselves are saying that development on Dust is being scaled back, Legion is now the primary focus of Rouge seemingly now. All of these points lead me to conclude the NPE will not or ever be a key aspect of Dust 514
It will however be primary to Legion and that i fear is why you are running.
Legion is a great idea and could well be the next generation of FPS gaming, they also said that about Dust 514 and given CCPs mass redundacies recently its hard to see a golden product coming from this developer quite just yet. That ofc is just my opinion.
I get the strong opinion from your campaign that you are constantly trying to remind people how 'important' to the process you are, multiple comments like "I've been informed that my name has been brought up more times than any other player in discussion between the CPM and CCP" and The term 'Dennie feature' (my Eve character) became part of the vernacular seem to show a lack of confidence on your own part and the constant reinforcement seems concerning. are you not a confident man?
I have this fear that you will be a really nice guy and will get on perfectly well with CCP and the other CPM chaps - you will also then not have the killer instinct needed to transition a community that you are supposed to represent into legion. I worry that you are looking to become CPM so that you can 'tick it off your EVE bucket list' and frankly this isnt right.
However
What i can pretty much guess will happen is that all of your corp will vote you in (something that swayed me not running at all, why would I when i can simply get my corp to vote me in (1.5k members now in the alliance) when its that easy, i honestly dont see why you are running other than you want to gain another achievement in your CCP journey.
Sorry, i think that if you get into the CPM, you will quickly become known as the candidate who is firmly in CCPs pocket and unable to take them on. therefore we the Dust 514 community would lose out through your success.
Just my observations

Interesting reply, thanks
My comments however still stand, you strike me as someone who isn't actually very confident at all with their own 'worth' the fact you constantly reinforce how 'important' you have been the entire process of Dust 514 is disappointing to say the least
Quote:I've had a patch in this game named after me internally at CCP. As I've said elsewhere in the forums, I was informed of and asked for my opinion on Project Legion before its announcement at Fanfest.
The above quote reinforces my point here quite well, im sorry to tell you this but CCP speak (and continue to speak) to a large number of people behind doors and NDAs and not just you as you seem to think is the case...., citing that you 'knew' about legion before fanfest again just shows you are quite desperate to show your links and engagement with CCP in this thread and throughout your entire campaign.
Frankly you are like the guy who keeps telling his mates that hes friends with someone famous / important and showing pictures of you and them together and all the funny things they said last night down the beach bar.
I think you would quickly become an empty seat when the conversations switch to in game mechanics, Dust 514 (NOT legion) and balancing issues, this is why i think you are not a good or fit for purpose candidate for Dust 514 CPM1, for a legion CPM, that would be an entirely different matter perhaps but once again to be clear, CPM1 is there for Dust 514 on the PS3.
All of this sadly is moot however as regardless of your 'don't vote for me' rhetoric, its highly likely that pressure will be applied to your corp to vote for you in some medium, meaning CPM 1 will really in effect only have 6 seats of worth.
Sorry to be appearing harsh here, i really fear that you will just continue CPM0 right into CPM1 and then once again the only people that suffer is the entire community, not just your corp and friends. |
