Talking about this sort of thing.
Alright, so, Ametat Security is described as:
"An offshoot of the Imperial Shipment corporation, originally formed to provide planetary security for the shipping giant on frontier worlds and new colonies. Ametat Security now offers troops and equipment to anyone willing to pay their rates."
So I guess it's -KIND OF- understandable that they'd be hired out by other corporations... Eyniletti Rangers is a bit of a stretch though, and SURELY they wouldn't put up with someone, even a mercenary, being hired by a Minmatar infantry group to fight AGAINST them.
All of the NPC corporations are considered mercenary groups in their description, even the Kameira Lodge (despite Kameiras being Matari slave-soldiers of the Amarr Empire) are described as free Kameiras who work for the highest bidder. But even then, I'm rather hard pressed to believe that the Matari would just drop the fact that they probably offed a very high number of Republic Guard for the sake of hiring them in a contract.
But while we're on the subject of the Kameira Lodge... When choosing a starting race at the beginning of a player's career, selecting Amarr and being placed in the Kameira Lodge would automatically (technically speaking) force the character's backstory -as being a slave soldier-.
Soooo my proposal? Ditch the NPC Merc Corps in favor of a Eve: Valkyrie-esque explanation. We all come from the same generalized background with no strings attached, no continuity errors, and a lot less mind-boggling team set-ups.

That-¦s the kind of example that shows that the communication between the people who do implementation doesn-¦t talk to the the people who do lore.
There-¦s a LOT in Dust that makes abolsutely no sense to the Canon and the lore of New Eden.

And the Publishing staff has just been decimated. Based on CCP's actions and statements (at the last 2 fanfests) they're more interested in not working on this aspect of New Eden and 'leaving it up to the players' to write the 'stories of new eden'.
I'm not expecting any initiative or content from CCP on this front at this point. |

Leaving it up to the players is all the more reason to have one unifying background that is impartial. We all got our first clone from Genolution - done, end of backstory, begin your career as whatever you want to be; mercenary or otherwise
