We're not national soldiers, we're mercenaries, no there is no reason dropsuits have to look so uniform. Allow us to customize appearance. It should be deeper than "slap on X color".
Painbucket colors on the whole or individual parts of dropsuits and weapons.
Finish: matte, shiny, iridescent (shines in different colors based on lighting), stone texture, linked hexagons texture, scale texture, metal texture, wavy texture, fabulous glitter texture, herringbone texture, dfferent types of glass textures, other textures. This should be applicable to the whole dropsuit/weapon, or just to only specific parts selected by the user.
"Eye" light color for dropsuits.
"Hand-painting": controlling a virtual paintbrush to color your dropsuit or weapon with more control.
Applying corp symbols, or any symbol you can make on your dropsuit or weapons.
Dropsuit accessories: antlers on helmet, cat ears on helmet (for Cat Merc), electrical discharge flashing around the suit, smoke coming off the suit.
Weapon fire color: for plasma and laser weapons.
I want to customize my Amarr assault suit to be completely coated in a black shiny iridescent material, electric blue glowing "eye" lights, and black stag antlers on the helmet.
I want my scrambler rifle to be silver and dark blue (blue part is also iridescent), and fire violet-colored shots. Inspired by this.
I want a system in Legion where I can make these things happen. Would be a great way to make money with microtransaction. The customization could be permanent, but only applies to one particular suit.

Sure.
Maybe a bit much with horns and cat ears. Instead I would say that each module you equip to your suit produces a minor modification that is clearly visible.
So for example.
DMG Mod: Orange fluid pipes wrapped around firing arm.
Kinetic Catalazyers: Green fluid pipes wrapped around legs.
Cardia Regulators: Red fluid pipes wrapped around chest
Prescision Enhancer: Small Antenna on both shoulders (Like a geth prime)
Profile Dampener: All armour plating changes to be more angular
And so on. Then your look is more than just cat ears (No offence)
Looks like its back to FPS Military Shooter 56

Frankly I wouldn't my suit's artistic design be ruined by throwing a bunch of colorful veins all over my body. Pretty sure profile dampeners don't work that way, the scan system is not based on radar, so angular shapes used in avoiding radar likely won't help at all with avoiding our scan system.

The suit sensors are based off magnetometric technology, as stated in the descriptions of both the Active Scanner and Scout Suit.

identify suit modules with visuals , genius. the depth of the visual could indicate stacking as well. crazy glowing sheilds and round bubbley armour plates, brick tanked much decide how to engage. 100% has to be in legion

These are merely idea but yes the idea is what you fit will determine to small degree your appearance. Since there are so many combinations of modules the combinations will be almost limitless, it would also be mildly useful on the battlefield. Also it is less likely that kt will be abused into stupid versions (look at the creation system on SCV)
And yes I'm aware that's not how scan prescision works, but it doesn't mean a stealth tanked suit can't look like a stealth fighter. It is merely am example to shlw what I meant, you can tweak them, give them multiple version etc. It just seems less immersion breaking than.

So we are gonna run around with people wearing rabbit ears, pig noses and deer antlers. Think about it, in pretty much every game where you give a stupid option, EVERYONE goes for a stupid option. It'll turn from a cool futuristic shooter, into an arena full of clowns.
More light-hearted customization is putting insults across your chest, or having a skull across your helemet. I'm obviously not gonna convince you the type of customization you want is a bad idea, I just hope the devs don't agree with you!

Wanted to point out the ammo colors doesn't have to be just on the plasma and laser weapons, as the projectile weapons in EVE aren't completely similar to projectile weapons today even if closer than most different weapons. They emit all kinds of effects, reactions around the bullet or discharges. The bullet itself also isn't in a solid form completely when it is on fly, there a lot of different types that creates different colors and anomalies when fired. They cause kinetic damage most of the time with the side effects of the ammo type.
