Their statement was that DUST "development" was not effected. i.e. No programmers or graphics people were laid off. But some of the community team obviously was. Well, they could lay off everybody but Rattiti and that statement would still be correct wouldn't it? He is the only developer on dust as everyone else, their precious arteests included, are on the not yet approved but still sucking cash project legion.
If this downsizing was the result of investors pushing ccp to do something to show they can control costs they why not just cut legion instead, because it is their current toy. Their only other game with potential will require a $350 controller customer base pc(expensive system, expensive controller). Project legion is going to be a reduced customer base as well: eve pc players that want to do PvE in a pseudo FPS game that uses ancient technology that nobody else in the industry is using (UE3). The subset of gamers is pc(eve(legion)) which is a percentage of the players they have now and part of the investors problem is subscriptions are flat and ccp has to count on current players having multiple accounts. Project legion is going to be tied to the stupid star map and the back stabbing nature of new eden.
As far as I know they have yet to proclaim, or even mumble, the business model for project legion. F2P, subscription with discounts for eve players, standard $60 box price or what exactly. It will be interesting to find out because it will tip their hand for what they expect from the game. If they treat it like dust (F2P) then it will be a disappointment regardless. They have trained their users in all games to give as little as possible to ccp. Google for eve players that play for nothing. Some I know do just that.
If the investor ever figure out what ccp is doing they might demand even more action. Personally, I think it would be better for the investors to write a memo to ccp explaining what ccp is doing. Cause ccp sure as Helen doesn't know.
Nobody at CCP cares because we ain't Legionnaires.
