Something that i mentioned on another post,
Tactical variants of the sniper are at the moment not very tactical. I would like to suggest that it gets changed via a buff to base damage, firing rate and clip size whilst reducing the scope and effective range (the scope wouldn't be usable as is, at cqc.) Probably to 300 meters
Doing this would allow a player to actually be a tactical sniper as they could run around with a squad and the rifle would become a usable weapon around closer ranges.
Other changes i would propose would be an increase to the headshot multiplier for long range sniper rifles. The addition of a fourth variant then there could be two mid range and two long range sniper rifles which would allow for choice of role as a sniper.
I would also suggest a tagging feature for snipers as a whole.
The idea behind the buffs to damage are that a tactical sniper gets more damage at mid range due to the need to contend with ground troops, as they probably won't be able to aim for heads.
Wheras the charge etc would get thier boost to headshots so those who decide to snipe from longer distance need to rely on skill to gain the extra damage.
N.b. i do believe that snipers do need a damage buff across the board but i do mean this post to be about the changes to the variants.
One other thing, if you feel the need to hate on snipers i'd suggest a different thread, probably in general discussion. |

Yet someone else who wants to nerf sniper rifles by sneaking it in as an improvement.
Snipers don't run with squads...they just don't. nerfing range to make them do so only makes them more vulnerable to killing by reds.
the current range is just fine no need to nerf it. if I can shoot a red from 2 metres then the range is quite effective up close.
as for nerfing the scope again no if anything all the scopes are in need of a buff.
btw the tactical scope is the best scope in the game, next to the thales. but sure by all means lets nerf it.

Hey Snake, long time no see!
I'm on board for the changes you've suggested with the exception of increased mag size for the TacSR. In my opinion, I think three consecutive head shots from a TacSR should kill all infantry (and 3 body shots have you running for cover). Needing all three shots to connect is part of the Tac's charm.
Sniper rifles in general are in need of serious diversity. I'd love to have to put more thought into which rifle I should bring to which map rather than the current one-size-fits-all design we have now. |

Not suggesting a nerf at all. What i'm suggesting is making changes so that a tactical rifle becomes tactical,
I also went on to suggest that there still be two long range variants, i see no reason that one of those couldn't have the current tac scope and similar stats, the main reasons being for diversity.
If you had been payin attention you'd have also noticed i mentioned two buffs and that the reason the new "tactical" rifles would need a lessr zoom only because you'll be aiming down scope up close and would lose time to do it.
I'm a dedicated sniper, i'm fairly sure that most people that know me would say i'm a decent one too,
wouldn't ask for a nerf at all concerning sniping.
I have come to this idea whilst championing for snipers to be improved.
Not only do people keep asking for a marksman type sniper, but i have noticed that realistically the tacticals don't do anywhere near enough damage and the "tactics" used with them is exactly the same as any other rifle. |

That's because people are straight up idiots who don't understand:
-that there's a difference between a sniper and a designated marksman, and it's HUGE -snipers don't run with squads -snipers aren't really supposed to move much at all, once they're in position (it wastes time, and it's just asking to get into a confrontation you can't win along the way)
People just get butthurt about getting killed by an enemy they can't immediately see and/or engage with their AR or whatever. |

sorry but wishful thinking. this is a server-side change or whatever. CCP doesn't like actually doing real work on this game anymore.
My thoughts on Hotfix Alpha: First I noticed a scout running from my AR. Then a heavy. Then a COMBAT RIFLE USER. CCP +1

the reasons that people ask for marksmen is because they don't understand sniping.
that said I still think that this is a good idea, mainly as the tactical rifles are just about pointless at the miniute, there is no marksmen type weapons at all and it would be bloody helpful in ambush missions or possibly some of the anti sniper maps.
I know that snipers and marksmen are different but I doubt we'll see a totally new weapon type anytime soon and this would just mean a few changes.
it would mean a little more diversity for those of us who prefer to aim and use things like tactics.
you may be right about server/ client side. I do not know.. but until it gets posted by somebody with a flag, it's still worth discussing. |

u have made some good points about being a sniper. I do think that the tac needs a amunishon boost and all the snipers need a small damage boost over all but i would like to say that the snipers should get a range bonuse for some of the maps so we can be real snipers and it would fix some of the hitreconishion issues that some snipers keep geting but good thoughts on the sniper spec |

as a sniper that would stop a lot of the redline snipers but the issue is we see guys but cant hit beond 600m and when a map is over 1000m this sucks so i know how u feel about the redline snipers |

this really is not about red line snipers, nor is it a sniper bashing thread.
as for snipers not needing a buff. I disagree, pc battles as a sniper are completely unviable.
and on another point, snipers are not the only people you'll find beyond the red line.
back to topic,
i would really like to see this rifle become something with a real use so i'll have to to bump this thread for now. |
