I just recruited a friend of mine to Dust and as I was walking him through fittings by showing him the starter fits for his race (Minmatar) when I noticed something. The Medic fit was awful. After a bit of playing I went and checked the start fits for my race and saw something equally bad.
1. The equipment, since they're new to Dust, the players won't be able to use the Nanite Injector properly. Replacing it with a Repair Tool goes towards teaching them to keep an eye on the HP of friendlies around them while promoting a more active role than "standing near a low HP friendly waiting for them to die" I've seen plenty of people do that in, and out of the academy.
Giving a Nanite injector to someone new to Dust will lead to them running out and reviving a teammate with the enemy that killed them still alive and watching, waiting for a free kill. Giving them a Repair Tool would lead the Medics to follow the battle and keep their friendlies alive and well.
(And it doesn't help that Nanite Injectors don't always work.)
2. There was a Myofibril Stimulant on the Minmatar Medic. The Medic shouldn't need increased melee damage.
The Myofibril Stimulant should be replaced with a Precision Enchancer. Since the Medic is the starter of choice for Logistics, it makes sense that the module have a benefit for the squad. Because passive scans are shared with the squad, a Logi can equip Precision Enhancers and Range Amplifiers to let the squad know where any nearby enemies are.
3. All Gallente starter fits have 2 Militia Armor Repairs (and Armor Plates). They also have passive armor repair by virtue of being Gallente.
This gives them all a total of 6 HP/s, rather excessive for starter fits. And to top it off the only difference between the Gallente Starter Fits are what weapons they have, unlike the other races, they all have the exact same modules. This doesn't do much to show off how customizable fittings are, and not all of them are as effective as they could be.
Medic: Replacing an Armor Repairer with a Cardiac Regulator would give them the stamina and stamina regen to move around and get to where they're needed the most.
Frontline: That's fine.
Anti Armor: Replacing an Armor Repairer with a Kinetic Catilyzer would mean being able to reach the top of that hill or round that corner before the vehicle they're chasing escapes.
Sniper: Replacing an Armor Repairer with another Armor Plate would help them survive sniper fights.
TL;DRChange the following:
- Medic Starter Fit of all Races: Nanite Injector -> Repair Tool
- Minmatar Medic: Myofibril Stimulant -> Precision Enhancer
- Gallente Medic: Armor Repairer -> Cardiac Regulator
- Gallente Anti-Armor: Armor Repairer -> Kinetic Catalyzer
- Gallente Sniper: Armor Repairer -> Armor Plates
