How is it that a shotgun can two and three shot a sentinel ..??.. when the one that can do the most damage is the Allotek Breach that does 52.80 HP of damage per shot and even with a three percent damage increase per level this seems impossible .
I never could understand .
Please enlighten me .
Most sentinels have well over 1100 HP's and some even more ... also factoring in the resistance bonuses .
I have been hit with AT and XT missiles and they didn't do anywhere the damage that a shotgun has done and missiles can take out vehicles .

Standard plasma cannons can 2 shot sentinels, and they have more range than shotguns.

Shotguns are balanced by effective range of less than five meters and a low rate of fire. Before the introduction of cloaks nobody but the truly dedicated and/or crazy used them. Rifles have better DPS per clip over a far longer effective range. Also, sentinels should be tough but not indestructible; they're problematic enough in groups as it is, no need to make them even hardier.
Wait until hot fix alpha and you'll see a lot less plated gal scouts blowing suits away with impunity. Hopefully.

shotgun is a plasma hybrid weapon. and deals 10% less damage vs armor. And if some 1 gets that close with it they deserve to get a kill cause the range on that thing is allmost not existant. And alot of times the heavy quickly turns around and sprays the guy to death with a HMG. |

yesterday (even though they had low health) i demolished a proto scout and a proto sentinel right by each other it felt so good to do that in a 200hp militia suit with a CRG shotgun.

the shoty has 12 little bullets that come out of it for x amount of dmg stated for each bullet...
so at 52 that's like 624 dmg a shot |

If people see the discussion at hand then they can comment . This is not an attempt to castrate the shotgun .. but to understand the mechanics and why most shotguns can two and three shot a role that has a resistance bonus that's basically crap compared to that weapon . It should at least take four shots on a regular for a shotgun to kill a sentinel .
People get up in arms about posts just from the title alone and that's not what I was looking for . I needed cooler heads to explain to me so that a real discussion could take place and not people thinking that I was another whiner looking to nerf their weapon because .. that's not the case .
If people take the time to read the discussions , then they can choose to comment or not and it doesn't take a shotgun player to comment because unlike myself ... there are many players that understand far more on a larger range and can bring meat to the table in the form of an unbiased discussion ... instead of players trying to talk while riled up because they are feeling attacked .
It seems to be going well so far and I have the answers that I was looking for and not an argument or people feeling threatened .
That was my goal and not another attacking role thread .
I as the writer , became satisfied but as a reader you are not so that's life . I think there was great insight for me .

it has no range and a slow rate of fire....
comparatively in the time it takes to put 2 well placed rounds in someone, a combat rifle (well aimed) can put just as much or more dmg into a merc... and it is good in any range...
shotguns take a lot of skill to use effectively because you need to get in close....real close. so you can see why scouts love them because of how quick and stealthy they move... easy to get in close (easier anyway)
I personally run a minmitar logi (mostly the dren bpo) and a shotgun... I use my LAV to get in close or I assist the heavies in point defence... I cant tell you how often I am simply out ranged by an enemy, but when I do get in close it's almost a sure kill for me... so it does have it's drawbacks to balance it's advantages....
unfortuneatly the way scouts are built right now it makes the shotty seem imbalanced... but its the suit not the weapon. |

It would be pretty underpowered for a heavy weapon, tbh. Assuming no overheat and continuous firing (cos I can't remember the HMG overheat values right now) you'd get 10.6s of firing, which, at 720 DPS at STD (18 damage per shot at 240 RPM) comes to 7600 damage per magazine. A STD SG deals 42 damage per pellet, and assuming twelve pellets (as someone said, although I think it's only ten) that comes to 504 damage per shot. At 8 shots a mag, and less than a second time between shots that comes to about 4k damage, which can be applied only within about 5m, as opposed to HMG's 25m.
Limiting the SG to heavy suits would necessitate a serious buff, either in range (which would render either it or HMG useless) or damage, which would be meaningless thanks to the pathetic speeds of Sentinels.
It's actually pretty balanced at the moment; fixing the way scouts can brick and still move as fast as assaults and fixing the cloak firing bug should sort it out as a weapon.
EDIT: and I think you misunderstand the thrust of my comment about the title; I'm simply saying that it's easier for all concerned if a title that describes the contents is given; a title like yours actually implies a troll post (which I'm not saying this was), which is what I came here expecting.

I use to use it but didn't skill into it even though I have a ton off of salvage ... but I like gun fight , not saying that shotgun use isn't a gun fight but it all goes back to the sniper rifle for me .
If I use HAV's and then try to snipe , my sniping is off for some reason ... just like using the shotgun .
If I use a plasma assault rifle , HMG or forge gun and then try to snipe , my aim isn't effected ... so I try to use weapons that don't throw my sniping off .
I don't know why its like that for me but sniping is my marker .. if anything throws me off of that I try to use it sparingly .

I understand , I apologize if I insulted you in any way .
I just didn't want players thinking I was calling for a nerf to the shotgun because I'm not .
Your right when you explain it that way , it would be a bad heavy weapon ... I was just thinking about the damage output .
It mimic's a heavy weapon but Seymour's comments helped me to understand more just like everyone that has commented and that's what I like .
I just wanted to be simple and not try to get people up in arms .
Thanks to all that's commenting on this subject , I should have titled the discussion better but like I said , I didn't want people heated for this , that wouldn't have helped me to understand like I have begun to now because of the feedback .
