If you need to spot a cloaked scrub, then you need to get out into the open to see their glimmer. When you go out into the open, then you get tagged by a stealth 80GJ tank. There is nowhere safe, which is why so many players probably choose cloaked shotty or some uber heavy solution.
I have tried various configurations of range amplifiers, but I face the trade off of valuable dropsuit slots to get a minimal range enhancement.
1. We need more info from TACNET.
Range Amplifiers need a huge boost. Even if four complex range amplifiers are applied to a light frame/scout, the scan radius does not reach to the weapon range of the non-side arm weapons. Which means that you're still in danger of stealth attacks.
Because no level of precision enhancement guarantees that cloaked scrubs will show up on TACNET, if you're in tight quarters surrounded by cloaked shottys then you are forced out into the open.
2. We need stronger precision enhancers.
This problem is polarizing players to either cloaked shotty or some heavy/tank/ADS class that is armor tanked to the point that cloaked shottys cannot harm them.
The assault classes are simply sitting ducks without enough info to determine an appropriate course of action, and without enough armor to withstand more than a single shotgun blast.
3. Remove the 25% profile dampening bonus from cloaks. It's bad enough that I cannot see the scrubs.
We have been fighting in the dark for too long. Give us more TACNET info.

I actually had 2 dampeners on that scout. 1 blueprint & 1 complex. I had to switch it up during the game because some clacked scout picked on my assault suit. Sometimes you have to fight fire, with fire. Sorry about the collateral damage though.

Buff Range Amplifiers, +1
Drop 25% Dampening Bonus to Cloaks, +1
As a (mostly) Heavy, I really have no opinion on Precision Mods. I capped the Passive abilities and left it at that.

Assaults don't need to be seeing more infantry for themselves.
Vehicles are still glitchy on TACNET and frequently show up less than 5m from a Scout without ever appearing on scanners, and only light up when directly looked at. THAT'S an area where we need more info on TACNET.
Also, Scouts aren't reliably sharing their passive detection information with squadmates, and I've had a couple of instances where a friendly Scout in another squad has lit targets up on my HUD.
TACNET's biggest problem is that it's inconsistent. They need to set rules and make sure the rules are actually being reliably applied to gameplay. Scouts should share their TACNET data with the squad, but not the whole team. This could maybe - MAYBE - be expanded to all Light Frame suits, or possibly even to everyone, but with the lower precision and larger radius, Scouts are still the best option for doing so. Active Scanners should always share to the whole team. At the moment, sometimes players will be randomly lit up by your team- and squadmates and there doesn't seem to be any clear reason why. Sometimes you only get TACNET data from Scouts, but occasionally a random Logi or Assault will light enemies up. Sometimes only your squadmates will light enemies up, but occasionally a random person from another squad will be marking targets for you. EDIT: I'm not talking about Active Scanner marking, I'm talking about passive detection being shared randomly.
The only thing that's currently consistent is that when you aim for a target outside your passive scanning range, even though they light up for you, they won't light up for anyone else on the team. Back in closed beta, being able to light up distant targets like this was actually one of the better uses for the zoom on Swarm Launchers, and also a good way to use a Sniper Rifle to mark enemy tanks. Kind of a shame you can't do anything like that any more. |
