I never got to start the trilogy thanks to capping out Dust. Now that I no longer have that obligation, I started the first entry over the weekend and boy oh boy is it a satifying experience.
Flying around in the Normandy. Taking landing parties down to planets and moons. It's like I have my own USS Enterprise!
Surveying planets and asteroids for rare minerals, driving around in the Mako, it almost feels like . . . . . . hang on a sec . . . . . . what Dust was supposed to be!
But this is on a console!!!???

The core of the ME series goes downhill considerably after 1, the trilogy is still good, but they really gutted it in favor of the action side of things. I always got the ME1 atmosphere from playing dust early on, all those unexplored worlds that could have something, or could just be empty. Maybe that's why I stayed this long.

Agree - really hoping ME4 has the magic of the 1st one with the better shooting mechanics not fully taking over the entire experience

I visited Apocrypha just to collect books. Do you have the crown of Barenziah? All the Bugs in a Jar? Summoned Daedra at the altar under the College? Chased Ma'iq across the entire bloody map? Killed the hidden dragon in Blackreach? Followed the headless horseman to his tomb? Leapt from Dead Man's Drop? I know I should, but the 1st Dragon Age really turned me off Bioware DLC. It's so shamelessly overpriced for such an underwhelming experiences. The Morrigan DLC was so bad I boycotted DA2. Which worked out in my favour.

I played ME 1 and can't understand the hype. I stopped playing after the game gave me Renegade points for not wanting to **** the blue space chick that wanted me to do a task for her, despite me having no reason to actually want to help her. Probably because the game is geared at hormonal teenagers.
Also, the dialogue system made me feel like the game was posessed. I simply couldn't play anymore because Shepherd would constantly do things that were completely ******* unrelated to my dialogue choice. And the combat system was unremarkeable and, in fact, clumsy. I player it on PC, if that matters.
I heard the sequels were even worse.
Gaming has been going downhill. It's laughable how Halo and Mass Effect are lauded despite being really bad. |

IMPOSSIBRU ! ! ! Well, that's news to me.
I had been led to believe DUST was meant to be a massively multiplayer online game, not a heavily-directed semi-open-world single player experience. I remember hearing a lot about vehicles being a major factor in DUST too, without the almost-total focus on infantry combat in Mass Effect. I'm also pretty sure DUST was always advertised as having integration with EVE Online, while Mass Effect has space flight integrated directly into it rather than putting that primarily into another game. I also had a pretty strong idea that DUST was a first-person shooter without a sticky cover system, and Mass Effect was third-person with some of the stickiest cover to ever stick itself to a protagonist.
Was I wrong? (Hint: The correct answer is "no")
There are a whole lot of surface similarities between some of DUST's vision and some of Mass Effect's features. There are many reasons why Mass Effect isn't doing anything like what DUST was trying to do though.
And there are a handful of bugs running through the entire Mass Effect series which are worse than anything I've had issues with in DUST even since my closed beta days. Early on when I first started in closed beta, there were occasional times where my PS3 would freeze playing DUST. In every game of the Mass Effect Trilogy, I've had to get into the habit of saving regularly because I never know when the game is going to cause a system freeze and lose whatever progress I hadn't saved yet. Usually, when I'm picking up a Mass Effect game, I play for about 3 or 4 hours, and have to restart my PS3 twice during that time. Usually, when I'm playing DUST, I play for about 3 or 4 hours, and I've only had to restart my PS3 about half a dozen times since Codex.
Not that I'm trying to belittle any of Bioware's achievements with Mass Effect, though. The games are amazing. But you do need to keep in mind that they're not really comparable to DUST in this way. |

No, but I have a shiny Platinum. To merit that much play after that.. it would have to be a really good game. I did not find it to be that awesome, but that's just me...
Or it would need multiplayer, that would also merit playing the game after the fact.
Can I just say that I'm still rather upset we never got our Trophy support for this game.

In other words: Quote:I was fed a load of promo bullshit about what Dust could have been, and the fact that it doesnt deliver on any of this should not be a factor
Absobloodylutely. Mass Effect has delivered on a handful of features that Dust was supposed to have. How hard would it have been to introduce to Dust, the same planetary exploration system as ME's, with a multiplayer twist if someone happens to land on the same planet/moon?

Eh, I'll jump in here while I'm bored at work. I guess I'll have to side with Blacknova a few up. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game well enough, but just couldn't get into the pace of it all. I found myself very impatient and felt my choices were kind of arbitrary.
For what it's worth, I loved KOTOR on PC way back when, so I feel weird saying that I couldn't find a groove with ME. I do remember being very excited by the game before release, but when finally playing it it felt too familiar maybe... that and on a rail. Maybe I should try it again though. It's been a while.
Off topic, I don't think it's fair to compare ME to DUST. Two different..very different games.
oh well. back to the RL grind

Uh, yea you can.
The game was fun and all, but in terms of its replay value the game was the worst in the series.

I got too invested into it, and got burned hard.

Same bro, I scored the trilogy right after CCP shoved a knife into Dust and the series is awesome. Today, however, I'm at an impasse in ME2 so I'm taking a break and visiting the old neighborhood here to cause more sadness via tank.

When it runs out of trophies, yes, yes you can. 5 trophies away from my plat. Thanks for reminding me to finish that...
I only play dust514ums now. It was always more fun than the actual game anyways.

First one wasnt an EA game at least on Xbox
Mass Effect and Jade Empire I just loved. Kotor as well but then Star wars here there and everywhere kinda killed it for me.
Mass Effect started kind of clunky but once you skill up your Shep its great. The vision of that game is what most should strive for, full immersion. The only thing that really broke it was the death screen.
The simple nature how you meet Wrex, fights in the wards, the first meeting with Saren as well as Virmire on, it just plays out well.
On the new systems once the games install they should be able to eliminate most loading if not all but I hope they will keep some pauses because the elevator rides and decontamination were elegant and added to the immersion imo.

Like escape from jail, 1000 bounty in each hold, ect. I almost always play the "hero" type of toon first, then after beating most of the game, I cause as much destruction and greif as possible

The Mass Effect trilogy is easily some of the greatest video game content ever produced. Mass Effect 2 and it's accompanying DLC being the highlight, of course.

I like how no one is mentioning how totally awesome ME3's multiplayer is. It's by far the best horde-mode gameplay I've had the chance to play, and the insane amount of variety in terms of weapons, characters, powers, and builds is just astounding.

IMPOSSIBRU ! ! ! BioWare always make good games...well, except from Dragon Age 2, that was pretty bad imo... I didn't find that bad tbh. Just rather subpar.

I love every single mass effect game they all had good stories and great game play but mass effect 1 has the best exploration i do not understand why bioware decided to take away alot of the exploration in the other games. What i am hoping for ME4 is
1: Since shepard is out of the way i want to be able to choose different races in character creation ive always dreamed of playing a turian in the story.
2: I want to be able to choose to join either the alliance, Csec, Blue suns , eclipes , the blood pack , Cerberus, the alliance military, or make you own of some sort of faction (i know the last one probably wont happen but i have hope)
3: I want all of the good exploration that Mass Effect 1 has to be in Mass effect 4
4: A greater Multiplayer experience than Mass effects 3's even though ME3's multiplayer is great though i hate running gold or platinum vs the collectors its still very fun.
Im sure there is more but that is all I can think of for now.

I'm not mentioining it because Syndicate's co-op was better. And the game was released on the same day for no remotely rational reason (also published by EA, but without marketing, so they SHOULD have known how that would play out). The only problem was Starbreeze cutting ties with EA right after release and actively avoiding putting any effort into supporting the game after release when it really, REALLY needed it. Even without anything resembling support at all, let alone the quality support ME3's co-op mode was given, Syndicate is better for online play. |

hate to spoil this for you but 2 and 3 replace the away parties to planets with a shallow mini game... no more moon patrol car but the gameplay and story gets more intense.. so its a fair trade off. |
