Dust 514 Skill Tree Changes: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7vJ6HyhGJcdd0Z1ckZMN1F1eGs/edit?usp=sharing
First off, Don't move my thread. I am not posting this in feedback or suggestions because I want this to be a discussion amongst the Dust 514 community, hence "General Discussion". I am not posting this in the Legion sub forums because I will not be playing it and I want this to only relate to Dust. This will be a Long post but please bare with me, this stuff can actually get us somewhere!
Right now Dust is and has always been dominated and dictated by FOTM suits and Player SP ISK/SP gap. We are all aware proper Matchmaking will never become available to fix these issues. So what can we do about it, nerf everything once again?I don't think so, I believe that if nerfing and buffing hasn't worked countless times in the past, then something else must be changed. That's why I'm making this thread.
I'd Like to get the community together to share their thoughts and opinions for how to solve this continuous cycle of imbalance.
While I do agree that Suit Bonuses are a major aspect of the imbalance I also don't think its the main reason. It's simply a side effect of an underlying cause. So what is the main issue?
Everything and Everyone in this game revolves around the Skill Tree. The Tree is basically the Roots and Foundation of everything in Dust 514. From How Good something is to how weak. Counters, Strategies, FOTM Fittings and Most imporantly Mercenary Individuality all Derive and stem off of the Skill tree. This is why I Believe the Skill Tree is the main Cause of Imbalance in our game. In order to fix the imbalance we must fix the Tree!
I have Created this Google Document to visualize my proposed changes and What I am explaining here.
Problems With the Skill Tree 1.) Basic Frames Are Too Weak to Spec full Proto into - This hinders new Players from being to pick up the game and compete. ISK and SP Does not come easy and The new player should not have to wait or Grind or endure being pubstomped for an elongated period of time to have a competitive fitting. Basic Frame suits serve no purpose other than to be used as a stepping stone to Get into a Full proto Role Specific suit.
This is essentialy a dead skill, or an SP Sink. Just because we endured the grind doesn't mean the new players should to! Every skill in the game should reward the player in some way for investing their hard earned skill points! Adding Racial Bonuses to Basic Frames and Lowering the cost will have more players going Basic Frame Proto. An obtainable suit that is Competitive, with low SP Investment and Gives you more bang for your Buck will make for a more competitive player base, more competitive matches and Reduced mileage between SP Gap.
2.) Role Bonus should be removed from Suits and Replaced With Player Bonuses In the Skill Tree! - Role Bonuses are a major aspect of what makes a suit good or not, but more importantly Role Bonuses only Encourage FOTM Suits and Decrease Player Individuality. Role bonuses should be removed for this Reason alone. Instead Role Bonus should be replaced with Skills in the skill true Called "Player Bonuses".
These skills should become Unlocked and available to Skill into the instant a Player Has a Single point in the Role Specific suit of choice. This increases Suit Versatility, decreases "Clones" and FOTM Suits and adds Player Individuality among the mercenaries, Let we the players choose exactly how we'd like to specialize our Mercs!
Player bonuses have a Limit of only 2. Once 2 Skills have a Single point of SP invested in them the others should become locked.
Just these 2 changes Alone would benefit the game and Fix the majority of issues we have when it comes to imbalanced suits.
Just to clarify this is all theory, an Idea I've had for a long time but refrained from posting about it. After all the Skill tree is the Foundation of the game and changing the skill tree could make hings drastically better or far far worse. Please feel free to Edit my google doc with your own changes or post your own thoughts and ideas here, i look forward to reading them! |
