Why the damage reduction? Where did we ever see anybody complain that a grenade did too much damage?
Or is that the problem; they do just enough damage? No one bothers to skill into them because militia locus is effective and efficient. That's the HFA theory, correct?
I am planning to skill them because standard uses less cpu/pg and can carry two. I would skill into advanced if I knew I could be effective against advanced level fittings. But not anymore.
The description for locus grenades claims they are "highly effective against dropsuit armor". 250 damage is NOT. It isn't even enough to take out an unenhanced starter fit. Advanced level at 350 damage is less than standard is now. Even that will still have trouble with a starter fit. The proposed damage has it so locus grenades are no longer effective until proto level. And even contact grenades at PROTO level are as useless as militia. Now no one will bother skilling into grenades because it cost so many skill points and so much isk for so little gain.
Reason 1: Nobody skills Locus grenades because they are difficult to use. It takes time to learn accuracy at range and how to cook it so it explodes at the most advantageous moment. Most players trust luck more than skill therefore too risky to spend SP and ISK on.
Now imagine new players trying to learn grenades. Most times you can't see where it landed. They will never know if they were successful because at 250 damage they will never get a kill. And if they did see it land, do you expect them to think "Gee, that would have worked great if it were a proto grenade. Maybe I'll skill into proto just to test it out.", or even "Yay, another kill assist with my advanced level SP expediture!" how about "Holy cow my proto level contact nade really knocked the shields right out of him!"
Nope, more like "Thisshitsucks".
Reason 2: nobody skills grenades because REMOTE EXPLOSIVES!!!!
Talk about highly effective and efficient; RE have become the replacement grenade. They can be placed exactly where you want, can be "thrown" accurately, don't bounce away, explode on demand cause enough damage to take out a heavy and are effective as AV. All for standard level SP and ISK.
Maybe the idea is that HFA will limit usefulness of tanking so damage of grenades can be lowered. But this just builds tanking into the system by default.
