After more than a year of Dust, and the feeling that its short history might come to a close soon, I thought about what it was that made me play it that long.
For me it was mainly the cool design, flair and setting that gripped me above anything else. But there was another thing that I want to share.
Yes, I think it was the rage. Because of the uniquely unfair and punishing mechanics (for any post uprising-release player at least) I was constantly on the edge of my seat, trying to squeeze the last bit of accomplishment out of the game and opposition that seemed hellbent on not delivering it by itself. Never have I experienced such rage and such motivation for revenge. Oh sweet rage. I kept an old soft-cover book close at any moment to be able to throw it against the wall in case that I couldnt bear it anymore I think just the thing that kept every other player (except from us few idiots here) away from Dust, kept me in.
Does anyone else have favorite features, or "things" in Dust?

Cpl Foster USMC wrote:I don't know, no other FPS has ever appealed to me like this one did. From the moment I saw that opening movie after download I was hooked.
Then it had Snipers. I love Sniping. Maybe it the Marine in me, but I love long range shooting.
I don't seem to have most of the problems that others have (lag, hit ditection, etc, etc..) or maybe I just don't see it cause I haven't really played a lot of FPS.
Tried 'MAG' and hated it, love Dust ?
and then there's my Logi, Heavy, Scout suits.....Tank....Jihad Jeep...Stabbin' Fools.....
C'mon....it's still a really good game....but if it makes it to Dec 31st I'd be shocked...they really screwed us on that one...I don't think 'Legion' is the bright hope on the horizon that everyone thinks..look at whats happened and you can see that CCP is in trouble...
I dont see it that bleak. I tried Eve and its a really good game. If Dust is becoming a bit more like Eve it still may have a bright future for more players than 3000 at a time.
But just for clarification: Whats MAG?

Bethhy wrote:The Weight.
You can jump into DUST with FPS game competency and feel like your actions make a difference in the outcome of matches.
Pair that with the weight of every death meaning something(When you actually spend money on your suits)
And you have a game that is not so massive in scale that you feel insignificant like PS2 and where your individual actions matter as much as the teams. I Don't feel this is because of the 32 player count limits on matches however. More the overall design that allows for this.
I get your point, but I fear its a feature that too few can enjoy. And maybe the thing that kept Dust down for that year. The "stomping elite", that killed player retention for most of the potential players. But no offense, I dont blame anyone in particular. Its just the way Dust was set up. A design decision, less a question of personal responsibility.
