If you give Legion characters the facial customization options you give EVE players and allow them the freedom to not only customize clothes, but also suits in a similar fashion you are hitting a stream of monetization. Since EVE and Legion run on different engines I could never see them having identical facial builders or have the ability to walk together, but rending some more warbarge (which I know you guys have), rendering further into the merc quarters, and hopefully building some sort of office infrastructures in station for Legion corporations to have shooting galleries, meetings and whatnot would open up the world and social aspects much further.
The character customization along with all the possible places to go not only open up things to do between matches that are visually interesting, but it gives people more of a reason to buy those vanity items.
Now I don't want too much focus to be put on this, stick to the war game, but this could be a good place to collaborate with the EVE side WIS people and try to find ways to let both games interact. Even just silly little mini games, jukeboxes, bars, slot machines, whatever to keep people finding something else to do when they don't necessarily feel like blowing stuff up.
Would it not be great if in station there were screens and projectors similar to the captains quarters displaying news, sov changes, deals, and various other things. You could also give corps the power to buy screen space and add their sites to allow access in game to sites like dustboards, protofits, whatnot. Twitter feeds could be tickers on the bottom of screen. Just throwing it all out there.

Oh, the glory of Legion getting WiS before EVE players... The hate and anger would be glorious!
But absolutely, Walking in Stations is the only reason to really buy cosmetic items in EVE. In DUST/Legion where you actually see people it is a bit different but having a Monocole, a robotic hand, and a lovely evening dress means nothing in EVE as others don't see it. It is something that has been "in the works" for a long time but nothing has come out for a long time. My guess is if they want to really connect EVE and DUST/Legion they will have WiS.
Everquest II had/has an interesting idea. You would go to your personal house in order to sell stuff. You would put the stuff you want to sell up for auction, name your prices, and your character would sit there. If someone wanted to buy something, they could just buy it from the Auction House right there. However, they could save like 3% tax if they walked to your house and got it, which the Auctioneer would tell you how to get there. This had two effects. First is it gave a way for the developers to get some money out of the game without forcing players too badly. The second is that it gave you a reason to have a nice house. You could just have a shack with a broken cot and a leaky pee bucket but people would see it. Thinking "ohh, people will see my nice little house!" is what drove people to create elaborate designs for their rooms.
Legion/EVE could do the same thing. You can run down to the market and avoid a minor tax or buy it from your quarters. The point is that it gives a hub for others to see what you look like. Of course, "Walking in Station" is EVE's version of the MTAC; "coming in 2011!"
"This is B.S! This is B.S! I paid money! Cash money, dollars money, cash money!"

I think they hinted at WiS at fan fest. During the key notes they talked about 4 states of being dust/eve/val are 3 the 4th is digital that could just be a transit phase but i think i will be a stand alone project based on the code created for WoD. Think ps home but made for the eve universe |

Actually it exists already... sort of. In a horrid mutation of a Second Life kind of spook...
Go in your PS3 main menu on the "playstation home" feature, install it and see what happens. I did it and I was mildly positive surprised, expecting nothing for me there really. There is a Bar for us there!

So, the Dust/Legion staff has been crippled. Downsized. Halved, even, with people constantly on the way out.
And you think it has the manpower to take on a competely undeveloped, unrelated venture that as nothing to do with the core game itself, even though it's a thing that hasn't been accomplished yet in EVE in a decade, despite constant clamoring over it.
Very interesting. Tell me more about you optimistic view of this situation. |

I guess you didn't even read my post. The idea is to use one group of people to make content for 2 games, I'm sure CCP would invest in hiring a team if they knew it would be profitable.

I made this, but for theplanet side of things. This could just be altered for stations (actually, it would be a lot easier thinking about it, as there is not that much to change about the look of a station other than racial looks, maybe a slight variation in each of the racial stations).
It would be great to have a place where all the immortals meet, and stations would be the best place to do it tbh. +1.
