I have some new players questions.
When you make a kill, hack, revive, etc. something, a message flashes on the screen "+50" or some other number. Is that ISK being added or skill points being awarded?
I signed up for the newsletter and got the three-day booster prize announced recently. When I went online, the item was shown in an in-game mail. But there was nothing attached or for me to select and the item is not in my inventory. I don't have the letter any more either. Did I just screw myself out of a special item?
Is there any defense against players who use the heavy mini-guns? As soon as I hear the sound effect for that weapon, I'm dead.
When restocking, the game will charge me 200,000 plus even if I only need a ten items to max out a reduced item. Is it supposed to do that?
Is there a way to steady my shots? It doesn't seem to matter what weapon I use, the aim sight will wander about even if I put no pressure on the joystick. Do you have to compensate on the controller for this or what?
Sometimes, when using an anti-vehicle weapon, the game will flash a message that say "Target damage +75." Does that mean I did 75 armor damage to the vehicle or was that a skill point award?
Please, don't troll or flame me like they did on the EVE boards. I really do want to learn here.

Ok. I'd like to play as a medic. I know the optimal thing to do is to get a Logistics dropsuit. It will take a while because I have to have 300,000 sp. I'd like to replace the militia weapons I have. But I can't figure out what would be best to use. Granted, a medic is not supposed to be the best fighter. But I have to fight with something. I'd love to be able to equip a Nanite Injector and a Repair Tool at the same time. I know a better suit would provide that.
Does a Supply Depot give you more energy / nanites for your Armor Repair tool? And what about shield repair? Does only modules do that or is there a way to help a teammate keep their shields up?
I know I lose an item every time I die. If something is depleted during a game, is that item forever useless until you get back to your quarters?

OH. Last question...at least, for now.
The bonus skill points that have been counting down from 150,000 are about to be used up. Once those are gone, are they gone or do they replenish after a certain time?

Cool. Great tips.
Now, some questions on why players do some of the things they do.
First, why do players in vehicles go out of their way to destroy neutral or enemy-owned items? For example, a red colored turret or Supply Depot? Especially while I am standing there trying to hack them? Actually, I CAN answer this one. They get Warpoints for destroying the object and the enemy can not use them. But it also means that our team cannot use them. There have been plenty of times where a nicely placed turret could have given our team the opportunity to shoot at enemy targets. Even flying targets! But the vehicle owners don't care and just blow the structures up. Then, when all the deployables are destroyed, our team is forced to respawn at the starting points because all the Clone Reanimation stations between the MCC spawn point and the Null cannons are gone.
Why do my team members drop explosives at my feet while I'm trying to hack a Null cannon? Explosives damage friend and foe alike. And in more than one game, an ally behind will drop an explosive and kill me while I'm trying to hack. This has happened far too often for it to be a simple accident or new player mistakes.
Why stack your deployables on top of each other? One person will drop a transport pad down in the corner. Then five others come along and put their transport pads down next to the first one. Do these things have a short lifespan and can only do so many transports before they give out or something? I could understand this behavior if that was the case. But if not, and I see one already in place, I'll find another spot to put my pad down. No need to let the enemy destroy them all at once.
Is there a report AFK (AFC "away from controller") option? A lot of people, especially those in vehicles, will drive or fly off to distant corners of the map and stay there not contributing. Flying craft do this a lot. While some of them are trying to stay out of weapon range and restore shields, others are clearly not. You get three or four people doing this and you are at a severe disadvantage.
Which is better for Minmatar Logistic suits? Enhanced the shields whether it is shield enhancers or reducing the wait time on repairs, or adding armor and the same boosts? Depending on the weapon hitting me, I'm either out all of my shields and half my health or, if the enemy has a heavy machine gun or shotgun type weapon, dead in one shot. It's very annoying to see that I am often the one to have depleted the clone reserves the most. People have been player-shunned for things like that.
Finally, since I play the medic role a lot (unless we are clearly losing, I then switch to anti-armor and take pot shots at vehicles,) I've found that a lot of the time, players do not wait to be revived. Even if I am within ten meters of someone, they'll release and not wait. I guess they're just impatient and want a fully shielded and armored clone since my current injector only restores 30% armor. I cannot get better if I cannot restore folks for points.

God Hates Lags wrote: For this reason most players in dust would rather bleed out than get picked up by a medic. Experienced medics can use much better needles that revive players to 100% health rather than 15% and these are appreciated. But there are very few of them. Most medics are new players who will pick you up and then just leave you to die again. If you're set on being a medic, max out repair tool so that you can heal players to 100% health after reviving them. You'll get more warpoints by doing this too. Also carry nanohives so that the players you revive get get more ammo as many of them will be low. You also get warpoints for this. Get in a squad with people who understand that you're not just some noob who wants to revive them and then let them die again, that you're committed to getting them back up to full health and to full ammo so they can get back in the fight and not feel as if they're immediately going to die again.
I like this. I always try to switch to my repair tool after reviving someone. But they often run out of range before any healing is done. I will just have to pump some SP in to the repair tool skill and use a better repair tool and nanite injector.
I'm thinking of carrying respawn kits as well since people keep running out very quickly and finding no place close to respawn.
I'm working on it. Just takes time without AUR.

Any suggestions on how to hit things better? I sweep too wide when someone is within melee range. Shotguns can one shot me every time. Do they have a counter?

I'll give this a try. It's difficult to strafe with a combat rifle. I was going to give assault rifles a try as people are pretty good at taking me down with those.
Being killed a lot is starting to bother me. When I try to heal as a logistic, people zero in on me pretty frequently. Explosives and most weapons can one-shot me. While those in heavy armor that I'm trying to heal just lose their shields. It's frustrating because my weapon skills are supposed to be secondary to my healing. With a 60% armor restorer nanite injector, people seem more willing to let me revive them. If I can get to them without being cut down myself.

Folks, I am really, really, really, really growing frustrated here. I'm not sure what I need to do to fix or improve this. So any help is appreciate.
I, at this time, use a combat rifle, SP trained to level two. I'm a logistics suit wearer and know I'm supposed to be healing instead of attacking. But I often find that if I revive at or near the same spot, I am easily picked off and one-shot. So, I will try to revive away from where I died. Most of the time, I'll come across enemy stranglers this way. In this case, I revived and saw an enemy at medium range. So, I opened fire on him. I had his shields down to half before he turned and sprinted right at me. He was not shooting. So, I tried very hard to down him before he could close the distance. With combat rifles, they do not shoot continuously. But with each burst, my sites would move off the target and I'd have to adjust them back. The guy was on me quickly and I was stuck running and jumping in a circle while reloading as he fired back. Why he waited until close range with what sounded like an assault combat rifle is beyond me. But never the less, every time I would try to swing to get the guy in my sites, I would always swing too wide. The guy finally cut me down.
Another thing I have noticed is the joysticks on my controller do not snap back the neutral exactly every time. A lot of the time, there will still be some slight movement in a direction until I flick my joystick a bit. Does this mean the trackballs on the controller are going out? Is this why I cannot hit anything because the controllers are fighting me? Or is there some secret to targeting that I am missing? Even at long range, I cannot seem to hit my target. Even while trying to lead my shots, I am not hitting anyone.
Suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Quote:On the CR topic, there is a skill that reduces the bullet dispersion. You need to skill into that too at some point, it will greatly help. Also, if you are swinging too wide, reduce your sensitivity. If not on your hipfire aim, then certainly with your aim down sights sensitivity. That will give you two different options, and can work in different ways. That must be it then.
I wonder if I should upgrade to a different drop suit or add points in to shield regeneration or enhancement. Frankly, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to heal and "jump in to the thick of it" (as one help thread put it), if I am being one-shot all the time.
Questions: Can you only get 1000 SP max from a single battle? Without bonuses, I cannot seem to make more than that.
Is there a bug that allows an ally to cause damage to an ally in the game? There have been a couple of incidents the last few days where the only way I could have been hurt was by friendly fire.

Nice video. I'm absolutely convinced that my bullet dispersion is why I'm not hitting anything. But as all the guides tell me. logistics are not supposed to concentrate on their weapon skills. At first anyway. Also, about the video, your graphic quality was way better than what appears on my TV. Did you tweak the graphics to make your video or do I have my TV settings wrong?
Finding a good squad is pretty hard as well. A lot of the people who play DUST (that I have seen anyway,) are from South America and claim to not speak English (though they type it out pretty well).
I also seem to suffer from not using a headset. At first, I turned the headset settings all the way up and just listened. But to be honest, the only thing people seem to use the headsets for is so that everyone can hear them dropping the f-bomb when they die / miss / feel they've been treated unfairly, etc. I have actually not heard anyone give instructions over the headsets yet. No "Help at C," "We need some anti-armor on that tank," or anything.
Are Turrets worth training? And how about scanning for a logistic? Feasible or waste of time?

lee corwood wrote:I use an elgato to capture at 1080, so it might just be higher than your TV allows?? I dunno that one honestly. No, my TV sees in that range. Your graphics were much sharper than I've seen the game in. That and I have an issue with some older games that now appear to have giant squares as graphics. This probably is not the place to discuss TV resolution though.
So, turret skills are only if you want to use vehicle turrets? Do you get better dispersion and such at higher turret levels like you do with weapon skills? Does this benefit the turrets on the ground?
Personally, I hate vehicles. Tank drivers just go around shooting all the hackable targets in my games. They don't seem to offer much benefit. And all anyone who drives a "jeep" does is ride around in a circle trying to run over people on the road. Even if it's hitting their own teammates. And the dropships? Well, about all I see anyone do in those things is fly around the edge of the map and not really participate in the game. Occasionally, someone will have a dropship that has a missile launcher. But the pilot won't use them because he's too busy flying as high as he can to avoid being shot out of the sky.

A couple of new questions.
Supply Depots have a number on them. It has been, so far, 9%. Players also have a number on them. Most of the time, it's 95%. But I've started seeing higher numbers in some matches. One guy has 114% next to his name.
What are these numbers?
I'm also guessing that if you hack a vehicle and then end the match with said vehicle, you don't get to keep the vehicle, right?

Another question.
I'm not sure what the name of the map is. But on this map, the controls for the Null Cannon are in the center of the map with a very tall white building next to it. Above the controls along this giant tower, there is a narrow ledge. You cannot get to this ledge from the ground and there are no stairs to reach it. At first, I thought you had to follow a very long line of pipes to reach the ledge. There are two that lead away from this central building. But one set of pipes ends in a giant rock that you cannot climb. The second set ends in a vertical drop in to the ground that cannot be climbed either. It is pretty much a given that the group who gets on to the ledge wins the game since they can pelt anyone at the controls for the cannon with regular ammunition or just drop explosives over the side and then draw back so they cannot be targeted.
How are people getting up there?
Second, is there a place to report gameplay bugs? As a healer, I am constantly moving to bodies to revive them only for the game to not allow me to hit the button to revive. Even if moving in a circle trying to find the spot with the revive timer ticking down. I actually got hate mail from a guy who accused me of teabagging him instead of reviving him. Which leads me to my third question: how do I report profanity-laced in-game mail?

That would be the one. Are dropships the ONLY way? I'm not positive that I see a dropship every time someone is up on that ledge. Though they may be being shot out of the air before I see them.
As for the Learning channel, I can use it. But I cannot type as fast on the PS3 controller as I can here. I also cannot be on the internet at the same time I'm online using the PS3. I do not have a hub. It would probably cut in to my speed anyway.
