CCP Rattati has been looking at ways to improve the Plasma Cannon, particularly in AV use There have been some good ideas but they have been too similar to the Matari Mass Driver
The Plasma Cannon should remain as it is now, with a possible buff to Direct DMG to put a realistic difference between tiers Right now the dmg is BSC-1050, ADV-1100, PRO-1150 ...This is too low, i'd suggest buffing Adv to Pro dmg levels, and adjust the direct hit of an Allotek Plasma Cannon to about 1250?, this provides more reward for using higher tiers of PLC
Now onto the doomsday device of all Dust514 weaponry, the Breach Plasma Cannon
So it will function similar to what we have now, bar a few interesting effects
- Charge takes 1-2 seconds longer than base variant, but can charge for about 10-12 seconds So after the initial 2 seconds charge, you can release shot, but at reduced dmg due to lack of charge (1000?) So holding the charge for 5 seconds boosts the dmg to (2000) upon release at this charge level, Cannon will overheat. And the real punch A Full 10-12 second charge raises dmg to (3000?) again with overheat and a longer cooldown depending on how far you charge the shot so 4-5 seconds (short cooldown) 6-10 seconds (longer cooldown)
This way The Beach has AI capability via low charge chots, and in terms of AV a full charge shot will send a tank running
Note: I am not going to do the math on balancing the numbers, if you like the idea enough feel free to contribute.

With all due respect, it sounds like more useless than the current PLC. The fact that it's so useless is not actually its damage, but the long time it takes to shoot, reload, and the projectile travel time.
I'd rather have an assault variant that shoots twice before having to reload, or at least one shot that travels faster so it's easy to hit targets.
Or maybe a burst fire of 3 shots and maybe a slow charge or slower reload speed. That would be awesome. |

Dude, you don't get it.... This is a OHK Cannon.... making it easier to hit is 100% unnecessary ......
Yes my theory on a Breach would be difficult to use, as it could potentially deal 3000 DMG...
This is the balancing factor with PLC, it is OP but the difficulty of hitting evens that out....

The FG is even more powerful, and easier to use, even against infantry, but it doesn't excel at it so it's actually used as AV. The PLC is intended for AV, but it sucks at it. The only advantage over the FG is that you can fit it in any suit, even light frames, but then again you're more vulnerable when reloading (+ the fact that it's a close-range weapon).
I could do with a blast radius reduction to balance against infantry (though it's not even needed), but increased damage and improved chances of hitting a moving vehicle from a reasonable distance (30-40m) |

You act like this weapon is easy to use on a whim, JP is right one of its many flaws is its damage. Sure you can shoot a heavy in the back, but any properly tanked out heavy will survive even a proto, not to mention the actual skill behind direct hits as opposed to the FG. It rarely happens which is why ratati's proposed damage buff exists, what's the point in landing 1250 on a tank when they'll simply rep or run away from you while you reload. It only excels at destroying shields and even then takes fair amount of skill to actually hit your mark past 50m.
The plasma cannon is not a CQC weapon and therefore does not fall under the same logic, otherwise it wouldn't travel 200m (give or take I generally don't measure these types of things). Your idea of the breach PLC seems overly complicated considering the operation skill reduces charge up time making it too easy to overheat, but that's just the way I see it. I prefer the idea of simply a larger charge time in exchange for the higher damage output.

The PLC has a much larger gap between shots due to reloading, it already OHK's most suits with a direct impact as it is, no matter how much you buff it's damage it'll never be a good weapon against vehicles at distance of over 30m due to it's travel time, and it has a significantly low ammo stock.
By comparison, the forge has multiple shots it can fire consecutively, it has exceptionally good range, it's rounds have almost no travel time at all (which makes it better than the PLC for both AV AND AI), and no flight arc to compensate for.
For these reasons, I believe the PLC needs to be a short range anti-tank shotgun, and to do this it needs forge gun level damage.

I think you might think that people are trying to emulate the mass driver but the reality is that, That type of weaponry was not only supposed to be matari. Just Like assault rifles have their Variants for each race there would have been an eventuality where there would be a mass driveresque weapon for each race too but would be less effective to a degree. If there ever was an assault PLC with 3 rounds, it would in fact be less effective than the mass driver since the projectile is slow, the dropoff is weird at best and the splash area is overall less than that of the mass driver. So In CCP Rattati's words:
CCP RATTATI'S views on Rifle variations
CCP Rattati wrote: I personlly want the racial style weapon to be the best in class, (GAR, SCR, CR, RR) and the other variants to be not as good, pale imitations, so they are utility weapons if you like the "feel" or need to use one situationally. But that's my opinion and as I see it, we are allowed to mold it as we see fit.
The Thing to take from that statement is not that h is talking about assault rifles but that he is talking about variations of a weapon. So an assault Plasma Cannon would be a utility weapons created as a pale imitation of the mass driver just as described by the underlined sentence.
It's not about making a "noob tube" which is what I know you are fearing, and trust me I use to to fear it too, but I am a firm believer, and I've seen it too much in Dust 514 to believe otherwise, that if it's hard to use people are not going to use it because people are more interested in using the strongest most easiest thing they can get their hands on. So if the Plasma Cannon ever gets an assault variant, for utilities sake, I am pretty sure that the minority of the people are going to use it because it is not going to be as good of a weapon as any other weapons specifically designed for anti-infantry. It would just be a variant for people who put their sp into an anti-vehicle/support ant-infantry weapon, to get out of tough situation if needed.

That is accurate except for the base premise: the MD is not an AV weapon, therefore the PLC and the MD would fall under separate categories.
Arguably an assault PLC would take on characteristics of the SL, but that's just my interpretation.

Plasma Cannons are tricky to use yes, but that is Risk V Reward..... Without current drawbacks, myself and anyone who has used it for months will wreak havoc in CQC fighting as it is not a difficult weapon once you adjust to travel time/trajectory. How many guys wanting buffs use AA ??? and wonder why the PLC doesn't work... Well if you try and lead your targets rather that shooting straight at guys that are trying to dodge the shot..... IDC do what you will on this CCP... LOL |
